Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms, one bathroom, kitchen / dining room, living room, verandah, sundeck

Enjoy our generously sized farmhouse, with marble floors, large rooms and tall ceilings ... perfect for keeping cool in the hot Sardinian summer. We have upgraded the original house to modern standards, with a luxury granite topped kitchen, and a large sundeck with incredible views over the mountains to the sea. Includes internet access and DVD player.

The bedrooms all have modern comfortable beds - two with large doubles, and one with two singles - and we have carefully chosen both modern and period furniture to enhance the character of the rooms, whilst ensuring plenty of storage for guests.

The bathroom has a granite basin worktop, large mirror, wc, bidet and bath with a shower.

In the old farmyard we have inherited a number of lovely old trees - olive trees, fruit trees and nut trees, and we are in the process of renewal, a process which will take a number of years to mature but in which we intend to bring out the inherent beauty of the location, with large exposed boulders and locally sourced planting.

About Elaine and Robin

We are Robin and Elaine, living in Brighton UK, and working there as artist and architect. After falling in love with each other, we fell in love again ... with the northern Sardinian mountain "interior" as it is known by the local community. Elaine is fluent in Italian, which has assisted us in getting to know people in the neighbourhood. Robin is still learning, but can nod and gesture vigorously, sometimes at the right time...

Elaine and Robin purchased this farmhouse in 2014

Why Elaine and Robin chose Perfugas

Elaine had been visiting Sardinia with her family for many years, and had got to know the northern coast of the island as a holiday camper. We started to explore inland a few years ago, and when we eventually came across our farmhouse we knew it would be a lovely place to live ... one day! In the meantime we have undertaken much upgrading and building works, and have worked hard to create a hard wearing, sustainable, beautiful, and thoroughly enjoyable holiday house for all who visit.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The house offers a unique position on the edge of Campudulimu, a small hamlet located between the local market town of Perfugas and Erula village. It boasts a generosity of spirit in it's original conception - the rooms are voluminous, with a shady verandah for cool breakfasting on one side, and a large sundeck with stunning views and a barbecue on the other - ideal for long Mediterranean evenings listening to crickets and owls, and watching the sun slip down behind the dusky mountains whilst engaging with a glass of the very juicy local cananau wine. It is a lovely place to be, and we trust that all our visitors will feel the same.

When you can drag yourselves away from the house, you can choose to have a seaside holiday - the nearest beaches are 30 minutes away by car - and there are some very lovely locations all along the coast. Or you can focus on the neighbourhood ... for example we have a nuraghe overlooking the house, built overlooking a vertiginous drop into the valley behind, and well worth a short walk, or

you can visit Tempio, with its "Centro Historico" and "Piazza del Purgatorio" as well as it's fabulous springs and wild swimming. Or you can sample the unique Sardinian "interior" - the culture of rural life in the mountains, rich with a history of weaving, basketry and bandits - there is even a "Museo del Banditismo" in Aggius. There are caves to explore, petrified forests, and every village has a museum or a "Domus de Janus" (cave house) to explore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Elaine and Robin,

we appreciated the week in your house very much. Everything was

perfectly arranged and the manual you sent in advance was very helpful.

Sardegna - and especially villa Mimosa- is a wonderful place to be and

we surely will come again...

Best regards

Memories to last a lifetime..Villa Mimosa - you are wonderful....

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of five, two teenage boys and nine year old girl

Arriving late at night, I was a little worried about driving from Olbia through the mountain roads in the dark. The directions in the manual were fabulous and we found Villa Mimosa with no problems and as promised the porch light was left on for us which helped find her in the dark.

As soon as we arrived, we felt at home. The welcome bottle of wine and water in the fridge were also a lovely surprise after our delayed journey.

We had no idea of the surroundings until waking early the following morning and stepping out onto the veranda to see the sun rising over the magnificent views of the mountains. This took our breath away.

The farmhouse is spacious and airy and the week we stayed we had temperatures over 42 degrees each day! The house stayed cool inside even in these temperatures.

The DVDs, books and CD collection are a fabulous addition too. The kitchen is wonderful, large, spacious and equipped with everything we needed to make lovely Italian fare each evening.

The bedrooms were again huge, high ceilings, wonderfully large wardrobes, comfortable large beds, decorated beautifully with mixture of modern and restored furniture. Living room is beautifully furnished and had magnificent views from the windows too.

The garden is fantastic and beautifully planted with herbs and fruit, olive trees and grape vines.

We had one issue with no hot water during our stay but this was resolved straight away by ourselves after following Robin's clear instructions in the manual. And to be honest a cold shower after a day of 42 degree heat was welcome!

The house is located in a beautiful part of Sardinia and we spent our week travelling around the North. Valledoria and the beaches of the north only being a 30-40 minute drive away. We also visited Stintino, Bosa (Beautiful!), San Teodoro & La Cinta, Sassari, Alghero old town, Castelsardo, Lake Coghinas to name a few and after each day exploring, Villa Mimosa was a wonderful retreat to return to.

The skies at night are amazing from the deck and we were rewarded with three shooting stars during an evenings stargazing. Although remote (which we loved) you are only a few minutes drive from Perfugas with a good supermarket for provisions.

Robin & Elaine are fantastic hosts from first enquiry through the stay. You can really feel the love they have put into Villa Mimosa and we all left this place feeling inspired and with memories we will treasure.

Remote but beautiful.

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful property that has everything you need for a "get away from it all" escape. The weather for our stay was a very hot 35 degrees ( for us British anyway! ) but there was plenty of shade and sun on the large deck, also a large fridge freezer for storage of cold drinks and food. The views and sunsets were amazing and will be with us for years to come.

Beautiful secluded villa in Sardinia

  • 5 of 5

This is a really lovely villa in an unspoilt area of Sardinia, perfect for a quiet getaway, but also close enough to the coast if you are looking for activities. The villa was sparklingly clean and very comfortable, with gorgeous views from the decked terrace at the back. Elaine and Robin are great hosts.

Lovely house, beautiful countryside & beaches

  • 5 of 5

Stunning countryside and not far to some of islands most beautiful *and quiet* beaches, as well as hot springs and the ancient panoramic landscape of Valle della Luna - stunning setting of several classic spaghetti westerns and ancient spiritual site of the Nuraghe people; the famous pre-roman ruins and hill forts of whom are scattered all around this part of the island. A hidden gem off the beaten track that is still ideally located within a few hours drive at most of Alghero, Olbia, Stintino and the more mysterious interior.

Having stayed in many locations across northern Sardinia over the last 15 years, villa Mimosa was truly wonderful – being away from the humdrum of the more touristy coastal areas, but still within reach of everything. Locally it is overflowing with culture and genuine community in its close marriage with the land and sea, something that can be lacking elsewhere. The small town down the road is a few minutes drive or a long walk through olive groves and while small and basic, quaintly has one of everything - baker, butcher, cheesemonger etc, as well as a few bars and restaurants (oh, and one of the best Gelaterias on the island!), with very friendly locals. There is also a supermarket, though with the abundance of local produce we did not need it, and did quite a bit of cooking at the Villa (the large outdoor BBQ with locally caught fish was amazing!).

The Villa was very clean and well equipped - newly decorated and refurbished comfortable rooms with beautiful garden and views. If one was to want to rest at home more than venture out they would be very happy here, with abundance of clean countryside and open hills great for walking. Elaine and Robin are very helpful, being on hand a short drive away. They have a lot of helpful advice to offer if needed. I should think we will be going back for at least a few days next time we visit the island.

The only downside is the remoteness and the lack of decent public transport on the island so I would definitely recommend car hire (we hired a motorbike which was great). It is only a couple of hours drive from Olbia or Alghero airport - depending on how fast you drive! - and with a vehicle you are never more than half an hour from a nice day out.

Lovely house nestled in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

The house is lovely, nicely decorated and well maintained. The kitchen is huge (we made our own pasta!), and the deck is great for breakfasts and watching the sunset over mountains with a glass of wine waiting for the BBQ to get hot. At night if you turn all the lights off you can see so many stars, it's in incredibly peaceful and really feels like you are in nature.

We definitely needed a car to get places, the beaches and towns are all about 20-30 mins drive, but there are loads to choose from, whether you want small or large the beaches that you can get to from the house are incredible. The local town, perfugas is really sweet, has a wine shop, cheese shop, butcher etc and a supermarket and pizzeria that was all easy to access.

Overall it's an amazing rural and romantic spot where you can access delicious food and experience a bit more of the real Sardinian life rather than the more touristy towns near the airports.

Wonderful stay

  • 4 of 5

We had a really lovely trip in the half term of October. Perfect place to hang out as a family, but also snuggly enough to spend a little 1-1 time with a partner. Beautiful surrounding views from all sides of the house and beautifully decorated, especially the bedrooms. Really enjoyed breakfast outside on the porch!

October was warm, but needed a jumper... Although we did swim in the sea twice!

Great pizzeria down the road, although the house has a great kitchen to cook in.

Car definitely advised as you are in the middle of nowhere, however, we went on loads of great trips exploring the North of the islands beautiful beaches and towns.

Recommended stay! We have already rebooked for August 2015!!
