Nice apartment but too much furniture in a small place and the lighting is very poor.

Great but needs light.

  • 4 of 5

I have previously reviewed this apartment so, just to reiterate, the location is excellent and the complex extremely good, with good security.

The apartment is well furnished although could benefit from having less furniture, given its size. It has a balcony that overlooks the road but traffic is relatively light.

Comes with kettle, hairdryer, iron, washing machine which saves you packing a washing machine....

Our main issue was the lighting (we were there in October when this was less of an issue but in January, the days are shorter). The bathroom down light bulb wasn't working and we replaced that but, even then, the lighting is too dim. I know not everyone likes bright light but if your girlfriend wants to put her face on, there are plenty of mirrors but it's still very hard to see yourself in them. Putting in some brighter bulbs (in the drawer but still not that powerful) had little effect because the light shades are solid and look great, stylistically, but don't radiate much light and the Moroccan style pendants are similarly dim..

However, don't let that detract from the apartment itself, which was great - good fridge, hot shower and there was usually a parking space outside or nearby. I would certainly recommend the apartment.

Once again, I have to recommend the 555 restaurant for their tenderloin steak. Fado Rock was OK (sometimes less food is more...) and The Great Wall Chinese was good.

Lovely apartment. Sunny balcony

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was lovely. Comfortable bed and plenty of towels. The balcony is excellent as it gets the sun all day. Lovely to sit there and watch all the people going past.

Well located

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is well-located for pretty much all of the local facilities - stuff on the other side of the main road are all uphill.

Pubs and bars are a short distance away and the shops, similarly. Beach/harbour is a little further but no more than 5 minutes and everything is easily walkable, due to the compact size of the resort and flatness.

The apartment was reasonably neat (arguably filled with too many bits and bobs making it feel slightly busy though it adds character) and the fridge was large and clean and the shower was hot. Kettle and hairdryer supplied. Bed reasonably comfortable.

The complicated light shades seem to have meant that barely 2 dim light bulbs actually worked (we were out until the early hours so this wasn't really an issue for us) so visibility was sometimes an issue (Lisa has promised to remedy this before our next booking at the end of January).

It has an outside balcony- doors a bit stiiff (perhaps overly cluttered by various cacti where space would be better?) which overlooks the road, not the pool and the back of some units, opposite, but again, that was never an issue and we sat out there, quite happily.

Wi-fi works beautifully and is free.

Caleta is a very nice and compact resort (mainly British tourists) with everything to hand.

At the moment (October 16), half the beach (the other half is fine) is piled with mountains of sandy material, as they seem to be extending the beach down to the new hotels and shopping centre. I do hope that they don't turn Fuerteventura into another Tenerife.

Food - I heartily recommend the 555 restaurant at the back of the main shopping precinct, for great meals and value.

Fado Rock is good but pricier and "15" is nice but you have to book and I'm not sure it merits that, but it is British run/speaking.

70s Bar is good for a drink and music and The Flower of Scotland.

Various karaokes all round the resort, if you want a sing.

In Fuerteventura, it is so worth hiring a car and driving round the island, to see the spectacular scenery - Cicar/Cabrera Medina and Payless are best as they give you the car, no hard sells, bring it back with the same fuel, no moaning about the odd chips as many roads are unmade.

Would I recommend it? Yes, it's reasonably good value and prices seem to be rising, year on year and you really don't want to be walking up that hill to the various places up there.
