About the property

4 bedroom farmhouse in quiet rural setting, but close to amenities.

Maison Lajus is a renovated farmhouse 35km North East of Pau in the Madiran wine region. It is situated in a peaceful rural setting, but only 4kms from the market town of Lembeye. The owners, Graham and Sue, live next door and are on hand to offer advice about the region and facilities. The area enjoys a temperate climate throughout the year, and the majestic Pyrenees are about an hours drive away.

There is an outdoor (unheated) swimming pool for the summer months, with a Jaccuzi built into the steps. The house offers one double room with en-suite and a king size bed, two twin bedded rooms, a single room, and a house bathroom. A large, fully equipped kitchen, and a comfortable lounge with hi-fi, TV (Freeview and Sky channels), DVD's and games are found downstairs. Outside is a gated courtyard, and a lawned area. There are local walks with lakes and woods, and an abundance of wildlife. The town of Lembeye offers bars, restaurants, a supermarket and a weekly market. Further afield there are plenty of vineyards offering tastings of Madiran and Pacherenc. A short drive away is the beautiful city of Pau, the birthplace of Henry VI, with chic shops and plenty of restaurants in the historic quarter. Here you find the vineyards of Jurancon, which make excellent dry and a sweet white wines.

A visit to the mountains is a must, with huge waterfalls, glaciated valleys and the astonishing cols through which the Tour de France passes each year. Take a cable car up to the Observatory on Pic du Midi and feel on top of the world at 10,000 feet. Or maybe a train ride on Europe's highest railway at Artouste, a trip to the Cirque de Gavarnie, etc etc.....

For beach lovers, the resorts of Biarritz, Bidart and St Jean de Luz are about 140 kms away, along with the surfing centres at Hossegor and Cap Breton. Further north is the wonderful Dune de Pilat, Europe's largest sand dune.
