About the property

This 1 bed converted barn is designed to be somewhere calm to unwind in the heart of the stunning Somerset Levels. Woodsfield Barn is set on it's own 3 acre plot so you can feel "away from it all"

The property is on one level making it suitable for disabled access. It has one large double bedroom with a walk in wardrobe, a shower room and a kitchen/living room. It is tiled throughout but with underfloor heating for those chilly evenings.

To the rear is a lovely large patio with a chiminea and outdoor tables and chairs.

It is newly built to a high specification and designed to make you feel welcome and at home.

About The Owner

I have lived in Somerset all my life. I am passionate about the Somerset Levels as an area of outstanding natural beauty with a rich history.

In 2013 I was granted permission to convert the shed into a holiday cottage which would be built on one storey and therefore accessible to those with disabilities. This was something I felt particularly passionate about as a Gurkha officer who has served in Afghanistan and known a number of wounded soldiers.

Why The Owner chose South Somerset

The concept of Woodsfield Barn was always to build somewhere which would be welcoming and peaceful - a place where people can enjoy this stunning countryside.

Relaxing and a true home way from home

  • 5 of 5

We had a blissful time, the welcome was warm with a great bottle of wine and a homemade cake! The standard of furnishings etc was very high and everything had been thought of. Our dogs adored the great amount of outside space to roam freely but safely too! Would highly recommend this place for a quiet relaxing escape from everything in a true home away from home . Sandy the owner could not have been more helpful or accommodating.

Most relaxing holiday ever

  • 5 of 5

The location of Woodsfield Barn is perfect, especially if you have a dog. This was the most relaxing week we have ever had. The barn has everything you need. Everything is of high quality and easy to use. The area is quiet, beautiful (especially the sunsets) but within easy access to major roads. Everyone we met was friendly. There are plenty of places to eat, and lovely walks on the doorstep. If we come back to the area we would definitely stay here again. Thank you Sandy, and for the lovely cake and wine.

Delightful little property in a wonderful spot with fantastic views

  • 5 of 5

Double patio doors open out to the patio and a great view of fields with hills beyond. To the west is Mulcheney Abbey. It's a very peaceful spot.

There are local riverside walks and it's a great base for walking in the Quantocks and along the south west coastal path.

The property has everything you need; it's beautifully decorated and furnished and the open plan kitchen/living room has plenty of space. I felt very at home and want to go back as soon as I can.

Just don't tell too many people (I'd hate it to get too booked up)!

A lovely relaxing short break

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a relaxing, get away from it all short break and this little gem on the Somerset Levels provided us with the peace and quiet we needed.

In fact, it was so peaceful, instead of rushing off to explore which is what we usually do, we spent most of our time at the barn just chilling! We took our dog who was able to run about in the secure adjoining field. No irritating rules and regulations here which is nice but could have done with some information as to where to find local shops, doctors, hospital, vets etc. as that can be reassuring, especially when in a remote part of the country. Plenty of info on eating places but we prefer to cater for ourselves. We did notice a kitchen chair had been chewed at (definitely not guilty) but apart from that there was no evidence of dogs being in the property. Clean, comfortable and well equipped and we were welcomed with cake and wine. We did venture out to nearby Langport (you can walk to here over the fields by the river Parrett if you wish and don't mind the cows) which is a lovely little town with nice river walks. We had coffee and cake in a lovely cafe by the wharf which welcome your doggy friends. The churches here and especially the one in Muchelney are a must to see.

Fabulous Holiday Home & Cracking Area

  • 5 of 5

This is a fabulous holiday home & with all the facilities you need for a fantastic stay. The bedroom is great, the sofa just so comfortable, the bathroom spot on and the kitchen is well equipped, my only missing item was a dishwasher, but hey, it is only for a few days! The lovely patio was a godsend for chilling at the end of the scorching days we were lucky enough to enjoy here in June and we enjoyed a couple of barbecues whilst supping a glass or two of the local cider! (& wine). There is lots of parking space and the wildlife pass by the door, our Terrier tracked down quite a few rabbits, (I hasten to add they lived to tell the tale!) & a fox strolled past the patio doors on our last evening! Plus lots of birdlife and the cows are always casting a curious eye over the fence! Do check out the Cider Farm, Burrow Hill, it is such an experience and the Cider is pretty good too! The location of this property is stunning and so peaceful with lots of walks from the door and make sure you take a look at the Angels in the Church. Nearby Langport is also a gateway to lots of trails (you can walk here along the river or old railway track from Mulchenley) with lovely cafes (we used The Kitchen) & shops to add to the experience. Sitting by the river in Langport, watching the world go by is un-missable & free parking helps! Lots to do in this area, we had a lovely afternoon in Glastonbury with lunch at the 100 monkeys, which was absolutely brilliant and a great shopping experience in Street! Don't miss the Smokery, Brown & Forrest at Hambridge, their lunches are just out of this world, the shop sells all their products and the staff are amazing, even putting us a table outside to sit to eat with our dog, who couldn't be left in the car due to the heat! All in all we enjoyed a great 5 days and hope to return soon to catch all the bits we missed and enjoy the peace & quiet once again. Thanks Sandy for providing such a great Holiday Home. Cozy in the Countryside

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to be able to stay in the barn for New Years eve and it was a great way to see in 2016. The cottage is so cozy and warm - the underfloor heating was particularly great, especially after being outside in the freezing cold and rain. It was lovely looking out over the levels whilst being safely tucked up inside. The barn is really well equipped (I really liked the welly-remover!), nicely decorated, and is actually a lot bigger than we first thought. I would certainly recommend a stay here. Being nice and safely tucked away down the back lanes it is lovely for walking and cycling, or just for curling up with a good book. Fantastic stay - thank you very much.
