A modern spiral staircase takes you down to the bedroom where there is a double bed and wardrobe and an ensuite shower, toilet and sink. Out side there are two terraces, one at the front of the property for the morning sun, ideal for breakfast outside of the bedroom and at the rear of the cottage is a large decked area and grass garden equipped with BBQ and sun loungers. There is a bakery, open daily within a 5 minute drive and a local shop for basic groceries a 10 minute walk away.Broons is the local town (10 min drive) where you will find supermarkets, banks, pharmacy, eateries and bars/tabac. Jugon Les Lacs, le Petite Cite de Caractere, is a also 15 minute drive and is well worth a visit. It offers a small selection of restaurants and shops. With quaint narrow streets and buildings it is bordered by a two vast lakes offering kayaking, pedal boats and fishing, it even has an outdoor lido for the summer months!. A little bit further is the medieval town of Dinan, with its 3km long ramparts, half timber framed buildings and cobbled streets , it is one of Brittany's most attractive and well preserved towns, transporting you back to another era, the early castle of Dinan features in the Bayeaux Tapestry! A 30-35 minute drive will take you to vast, golden beaches along the emerald coast from Val Andre through to Dinard, with its 19th century aristocratic cliff top mansions. The coastline offers spectacular walks, watersports, restaurants and coastal market towns. Visit Erquy, a traditional fishing port and sample its world class scallops harvested into the port and transported out daily to restaurants in Paris, London, and South of France or visit one of the many weekly markets selling local produce and crafts. St Malo, with its walled city, is aprox 45 mins away and Cancale, famous for its seafood restaurants, is 1 hour away. Mont St Michel, a World Heritage site, is an island set in the bay where Normandy and Brittany merge. It is topped by a gravity defying medieval monastery and is considered to be one of Europe's most unforgettable sights,a perfect day trip from the cottage. The City of Rennes, capital of the region of Brittany, is appox 45 minutes drive away offering all that a big city offers but also steeped in 2,000 years of history and culture. Brittany offers so much to see and do , we hope you will love visiting and soaking up the Breton way of life as much as we do! The gite is situated in an idyllic , peaceful location but yet is accessible to the best that Brittany has to offer. Step out of the gite and you have on your doorstep, amazing walks, panoramic landscapes, cycling routes and just over the road two fishing lakes. Bird watchers will be in their element with birds and other wildlife in abundance. Local towns of interest are Jugon des Lac a must for nature and history lovers. A town of character buildings that sits alongside a huge lake offering watersports, an outdoor pool, a few shops and restaurants.Idyllic as it is, there is much of what the Cote D' armour has to offer within a short drive away.We have medieval cities in abundance, Dinan (25km) a medieval walled city, Moncontour (27km), Combourg ( 27km) to name but a few... walk through the cobbled streets with half timbered houses and it really is not difficult to imagine life as it was.Take a boat trip up the River Rance from Dinan to St Malo ,another walled city and world famous port. If you are lucky you may visit when Dinan hosts the Festival of Ramparts (Every 2 years next one being 2016) where 1000's people flock to see the celebration of medieval life, Dinan residents dress in medieval costume and celebrate medieval food, drink ,crafts and skills culminating in a torch lit procession through the streets at night. If you fancy taking in some of the coastline that Brittany is famous for you are not far. Dinard (30km) is a chic seaside resort where parisans flock for weekend jaunts, it boast Bel Epoque style villas high on the cliffs overlooking the beach, with 400 listed buildings in the town it is a wonderful place to meander and soak up the Victorian era atmosphere The beach too has its own vibe with beach huts and activities alongside crepe stalls and restaurants serving oysters and plat de jour menus .It even has its own film festival in October heralded as second only to that in Cannes ! The beach stretches wide and offers beach activities, as do most beaches, from June to September. St Enogat beach is the place for watersports. The town has a casino, spa , boutiques and many restaurants. It is also home to Frances Second oldest golf club, the course rolls out across the cliff tops with magnificent views out to sea. Follow the coast road round from the golf club to St Briac Sur Mer, a pretty village that inspired such artists as Renoir and Bernard, it offers 9 sandy beaches and a fantastic coastal trail. There are so many beaches and coves, too many to mention all of them, but we believe well worth a visit is St Cast Le Guido which has two main beaches Pen Guen, a shallow walk into the sea, beautiful golden sand and a fabulous beach shack style bar/restaurant to boot! The other beach Le Grand Plage is on the front of the main town. Also worth a look is the new deep water marina which has some fantastic yachts moored and some great little restaurants overlooking the quayside.

Pleneuf Val Andre, with its Victorian promenade and 2.5 km beach is a great place for a walk around, especially on a Sunday when the locals use the promenade, there is the five star Marin Spa, restaurants and to top it off an amazing ice cream parlour. You can also arrange sea trips from here at the local tourist office.

Around the headland from here is the Viking port of Dahouet from where you can take a cliff top walk to the Moulerie at Planguenoual. Here you will find a fantastic little restaurant serving freshly caught mussels but please check the opening times, it is seasonal. There are restaurants offering seafood and local produce dotted all along the coastline, one of the most famous fishing ports is Erquy. Small and traditional it is world famous for the scallops it harvests daily, they are shipped all around the globe ending up in many high class restaurants. However you can eat them in the port for a fraction of the price. A definite must do! You cannot visit Brittany or indeed France without visiting one of the weekly or seasonal markets offering local produce and some gift ideas. The markets in France are well used by locals and this only reinforces the quality of the goods that are sold a definite if you want to take home the taste of France. Rennes, was the capital city in Brittany before unification. It is about 40 minutes drive from the gite and offers all that most main cities do; museums, shopping, restaurants, culture and even one of the top football team in France! It is a vibrant city with a large student population who are largely to be found hanging out in the old quarter, an authentic pocket of medieval buildings left after the fire of 1720. It now is home to many little bars, boutiques, and eateries and also one of Frances largest markets, held on a Saturday morning. Two buildings of note are the old Breton parliament building and the remains of the cities main gate built in the 15th century.

Other towns worth a visit are Paimport,, Saint Brieuc, saint Suliac , Josselin, Dol de Bretagne and Cancale

About Jason and Samantha

My name is Jason and I bought the main farmhouse in 2002 and during renovations throughout the years made provisions to convert the hay barn at the side of our house, into what it is today.. A modern contemporary Gite for two.... We currently live in Nottingham but spend most of the summers in France, and I commute to and from the midlands via Dinard airport using the Ryanair service that runs 3-4 times per week.. My wife and I and our two cocker spaniels love the way of life that Le Herisson gives to us all, and hope that the Gite brings the same kind of relaxation and happiness to its guests as we get when we spend time there.

Jason and Samantha purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Jason and Samantha chose Sévignac

Having known the area for some years now I believe the location is one of the best in Brittany. Access to the north, central and south parts of Brittany are all easily reached from here.

Brand new inside and out, modern day necessities coupled with French rural charm, warm and cosy in the winter and a little corner of outdoor living in the warmer months, a real little find...

Gorgeous Gite, Stunning & Peaceful Location

  • 5 of 5

We have had an amazing stay at the Gite, perfect location away from it all. The Gite itself is gorgeous had everything you need plus its own private back garden. We visited the pizza van on the Friday night in the local village, 10 mins walk, definitely worth a visit and a pre-drink in the little bar. We also visited Dinan, 30 mins drive, lovely place for lunch and a walk. Thank you for a great stay we hope to return. Emma, Lloyd & Harper

Great!

  • 5 of 5

I had a nice long weekend in this little cosy home in Rouillac. The location is very quiet and ideal for a relaxed vacation.

The region is great to do some sportive bike riding on the calm and hilly roads.

The house in not difficult to find and has al the modern comfort you need. The owners are willing and open to suggestions,I had the possibility to arrive extra early because I wanted to drive at night.

With a short drive there is lot's to do and to see in the region.

Thanks for the accomodation,

Peter,
