About Mike and Juliet Warburton

Although we bought Rudel in 2003, we have lived in France since 2013 and as our home, we have completely renovated Villa Rudel to provide a stylish and comfortable place to stay, rather than just your average rental holiday home

We love this region and believe it is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of France. We are now taking the opportunity to rent our home out during the summer months to enable us to explore more of France and enable others to enjoy both the house and the stunning surrounding area

With 3 kids (now grown up) we have had many villa holidays over the years and we believe we understand what works well in making a holiday special and have used this experience to develop Rudel into an exceptional luxury holiday villa with plenty of outside space

We hope you will love Villa Rudel and the surrounding area as much as we do and have a fantastic holiday that you remember for a long time

Guides and suggestions for activities outside of Villa Rudel including walks and trips tried and tested by us and our family and friends

What makes this villa unique

Very tranquil yet close to great local amenities

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Fantastic house - the best house we have visited in 25 years visiting France! Sympathetically refurbished. We loved the spaces inside and outside the house - the different areas to sit outside, providing shade when needed were perfect. Fabulous pool and gazebo, lovely terraced landscaping. We were a party of 3 generations and everyone was very happy. The most striking aspect is the thoughtfulness of the hosts - from the welcome pack to the mosquito plugs to basic kitchen supplies. Idyllic - already planning our next visit! "

Tranquil yet lots of space and facilities to have fun and play. The large pool is completely secluded and surrounded by woodland to ensure that you can make as much noise as you want without disturbing anyone. The only noise you can hear at Rudel is from the local deer, other wildlife and birds. At night look out for owls and be amazed at the clear and starry skies. Although tranquil it is close to great amenities and places to see and things to do.

Fantastic house with stunning pool area

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Villa Rudel and we weren't disappointed. We are a three generation family group and there's something for everybody here.

Highlights for us are the stunning pool area (great sized pool, masses of seating and sun beds and lovely shaded area), spacious layout of the house (works well for different age groups), table tennis barn and bikes. There was a delicious selection of goodies on arrival and the fresh produce from the garden was lovely too.

The house is fantastically well equipped and immaculately clean. Can't fault it ... but can highly recommend it!

We enjoyed trips to Cordes-sur-Ciel, Puycelci, Albi and Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val.

Stylish stunning gem of a villa.

  • 5 of 5

Villa Rudel has something for everyone no matter how old you are. The owners have thought of everything so you can relax knowing that your kids are having fun at all times leaving you time to socialise in the beautiful communal areas or find a space to be alone and really unwind.

The house boasts 4 very cool bedrooms which are all en suite. Everything works and you can't fail to have a good nights sleep. The lounge and kitchen have everything you need and there are very clear instructions to make sure everything works.

Outside are two sunny or shady tables to eat and the BBQ is a design triumph (I have already ordered one). Perhaps our favourite area was the pool located slightly above the house with a great Ibiza style chill out zone and lots of sun beds to relax on. The pool is a great size for keeping fit or playing games with the kids - and it felt very safe. Just a perfect focal point for families to enjoy their time here. There are also bikes, a table tennis table, darts and a gym!

We really appreciated the effort the owners have made to make a home from home which feels really contemporary and comfortable. The decor is subtle, sublime and absolutely spotless. The attention to detail is better than a posh hotel without any of the pretentiousness.

What was also great was the very generous welcome pack of locally sourced goodies which were delicious. There is also lots of very useful information about where to go and what to do. The kayaking is a must as well as a tour of nearby Cordes Sur Ciel.

Villa Rudel is without a doubt the best villa we have ever stayed in and can't wait to go back. A total joy.

Great in every respect!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic venue for a family holiday. Beautiful house - really well equipped with lovely pool and great outdoor facilities - in a stunning part of France (gorgeous countryside, not too touristy). Lots to do at Rudel and further afield, plus plenty of shops and restaurants within half an hour's drive. No complaints!

There are many beautiful walking and cycling routes/circuits directly from Villa Rudel and in the surrounding area for you to explore the stunning scenery and picturesque villages. These can range from 20 minutes – 8 hours

The Grésigne Forest is a natural site near Castelnau-de-Montmiral, laced with paths and tracks perfect for walking, cycling or horse riding. With its 3,600 hectares, it is one of the largest oak forests in Europe, classified by the European Commission as a area of outstanding natural beauty, approximately 25 minutes drive from Villa Rudel. We have a number of books and maps at Villa Rudel showing local walks and cycle routes for you to use as well as descriptions of some of our personal favourites

Most local villages have markets and a Vide Grenier (attic sale) during the summer months where you can pick up local produce such as bread, cheese and vegetables as well as a French antique or two

There are an abundance of local vineyards for you to visit. Taste the local wine during the day, or at night, try one of the many apero evenings for a local meal, live music and dancing

In the summer many of the villages hold a fete: meet the locals and join them for a night of live music, dancing, a 3 course repas (meal) and wine tasting

Cordes is a large fortified Bastide village. Its’ position on top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Midi Pyrenees countryside earned Cordes its name ‘Cordes in the Sky’ to indicate its height above the clouds

Cordes has dozens of medieval narrow streets, fascinating Gothic architecture and an interesting array of art galleries, museums, shops and restaurants. Cordes is a lively and fascinating place to visit especially in the summer, when it holds numerous festivals some of which literally take over the town and therefore it was of no surprise that it was voted French village of the Year 2014. There is a tourist train every 20 minutes that takes you up to the top of Cordes and drops you off if you are feeling the heat or simply want an easier afternoon out

Gaillac is a lively old market town on the river Tarn. It has an impressive Abbey as well as many other historical buildings. During August it has live music in the local square every Friday night.

Albi, situated on the River Tarn is the capital of the Tarn and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a small, bustling city with good shops, several excellent restaurants and a great bar and café culture. Dominated by a massive pink brick, gothic cathedral, it has a museum dedicated to famous French artist Toulouse Lautrec, which houses the largest collection of his works in the world. Albi is a great place to visit during the summer, offering lots of live music, a new theatre with cinema, and plenty of cultural experiences including boat trips and river cruises on the river Tarn, horse drawn carriage rides, and a covered market.

Saint Antonin Noble Val is situated on the Aveyron river, in the heart of the Aveyron Gorges amid spectacular countryside. It is a Medieval town which still retains an atmosphere of the Middle Ages. The town hall built in 1125 is the earliest example of civil architecture in France and now houses the Museum. St Antonin offers you culture and history as well as an extensive range of outdoor activities: fishing, canoeing, climbing, caving, cycling, swimming, tennis, horse riding and rambling. The area is rich in flora and fauna with many beautiful walks along the river or through the gorges. St Antonin has a range of different bars and restaurants and hosts an excellent very large market every Sunday morning which is well worth a visit.

Bruniquel, Castelnau de Montmiral, Najac, Monesties and Puycelci are medieval Bastide villages and are included in Frances’ top 100 most beautiful villages. All have lovely restaurants and a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside - well worth a trip out.

As well as golf, canoeing, cycling and horse riding nearby there is an Outdoor Leisure Complex (with swimming lake, slides, boating lake with pedalos, fishing lake, tennis, crazy golf, play area for toddlers, football pitch, bar and restaurant) at Base de Loisirs, Castelnau-de-Montmiral, 15 minutes

An Outdoor Adventure Park (with lake, beach, boating, diving, water skiing, skiing/sledge, zip wires, mountain bikes, skate park, go-karting, paintballing) at Cap’ Decouverte, Le Garric 30 minutes

A Swimming Lake (with dedicated beach, fishing, jogging tracks, picnic areas with bar-b-q's, childrens play area, fitness trail, pedaloes, canoes and windsurfing) at Base de Loisirs de la Roucarie, near Monesties, 40 minutes
