About Richard

I was born in Windermere but moved away when I was quite small. Most of my family still lived there and I returned in 1996. When I viewed Claverley, it took me about 5 minutes to decide to buy it, it is that kind of property. Regrettably I have had to move away again for employment, but I hope you will love the house as much as me.

Richard purchased this bungalow in 1996

What makes this bungalow unique

Claverley occupies a quiet location but is central to Windermere and Bowness. A car is not essential to enjoy the many benefits found in each of these villages.

The patio and rear garden are south facing and are private. Being a bungalow every room is on the same level, after entering there are no steps or stairs.

There is plenty of off street parking on the drive.

Claverley is our former family home and was completely re-furbished and re-furnished when we regrettably left it for new employment. It is centrally located but the large south facing rear garden is quiet and provides privacy. The garden is beautiful although it suffers from the deer that often visit; they have even been known to sleep under the holly tree!

A thoroughly enjoyable short break in a great property in the lovely Lake District

  • 5 of 5

Due to work commitments, we asked the owner, Richard if we could possibly book a minimum of two instead of three nights and he kindly accommodated our request no problem at all.

A few days before our arrival, he sent us an email with attachments containing information on how to access the bungalow; how to operate the heating and other information regarding WiFi and password, operating the cooker, microwave etc. Having therefore familiarised ourselves with the information beforehand, this meant on our arrival we were quickly able to, for instance, adjust the heating to our own comfort. As we always bring a hamper of food and beverage essentials with us when self catering, we then enjoyed a cup of coffee while wandering round the bungalow, familiarising ourselves with our home for the next two days.

The bungalow sits amidst very large, impressive gardens. Inside, all the rooms are really spacious and the beds were very comfortable. One of bedroom has an en suite and the main bathroom has a very good separate shower and a huge bath. In the living room there is ample, comfortable seating and, our favourite feature, a lovely wood burning fire which we thoroughly enjoyed using. It was so relaxing to sit nice and cosy in the living room with the fire burning, a glass of wine in hand, looking out at the gardens and watching the snow showers come and go.

The bungalow is in a great location and Windermere and Bowness are both an easy stroll either way to enjoy the many bars and restaurants.

We had a lovely stay here and our only regret is that it wasn’t for longer and obviously, due to the time of year, we couldn’t make more use of the beautiful garden and dining area outside.

We hope to visit Claverley again sometime very soon.

Fantastic bungalow in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed out stay here, location was great with very short walking distance to Bowness and Windermere. Bungalow had everything you need including a gas burner for cooking outside and a fire in the living room. Very clean and very spacious with 4 bedrooms all of a good size. No complaints, worth the money.

Lovely Cottage between Windermere and Bowness

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of six adults and one baby in the cottage in November. The accommodation was first class. Four spacious bedrooms could easily take four couples (or kids). Well appointed kitchen/dining room and spacious lounge for relaxing. Everything was in good condition. Wifi, tv, log stove, heating system all worked. Would certainly recommend and will go back next year if available.

Lovely spacious home. Nice living room with plenty of space to spread out.

  • 4 of 5

The home is lovely and in the perfect location to stroll to Windenergie and Bowness villages. We were 3 couples with 2 infants and fit very comfortably. Loads of space in the driveway to park the cars too which was a bonus. The living room is very spacious but still cosy with a lovely wood burner to keep warm. Excellent kitchen with everything you need. Great to have fast WiFi too. Richard the owner was very helpful via email and would accommodate our wishes without a hesitation.

Highlights: excellent location, easy stroll to both village centres which have great cafes, shops and pubs.

Lowlights: a bit chilly in the house with the heating set to 18. We used the log fire and altered the heating a little to warm the house.

The Lake District is the most popular and largest National Park in England and in July 2017 became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are breathtaking lakes and rivers, soaring mountains and picturesque valleys. Windermere and Bowness on Windermere are bustling towns with cafes, pubs and restaurants, gift shops, bookshops, visitor's information centres, cycle hire, outdoor equipment shops and a cinema in all the heart of the Park.

Windermere town has a railway station with a direct service to Manchester Airport and the west coast mainline, supermarkets and the flagship store of Lakeland Ltd and is the base for Mountain Goat Tours, Lakes Supertours Lake District Tours and Kankku off-road driving. Three miles away is the Park Authority's Brockhole Visitors Centre with air park (treetop trek), bicycle and boat hire, pony riding, trails and orienteering.

Ambleside and Waterhead are at the northern end of the lake and are much like Bowness. Lakeside, Newby Bridge and Haverthwaite are at the southern end; they can be visited by road, bus or lake steamer. Lakeside has a preserved steam railway, and is within easy reach of Lakeland Motor Museum.

Thirteen miles away is the Forestry Commission’s Grizedale Forest with a cafe, air park (GoApe), numerous walking and mountain bike trails plus sculptures by leading international artists amongst the trees.
