The Amantean climate is extraordinarily temperate, thanks to the presence of the Tyrrhenian sea: the territory of Amantea, in fact, has an average depth of only two kilometers towards the hinterland and instead winds along the sea for over thirteen kilometers. This ensures a very long duration of the good season: sometimes the summer lasts from April to November. In summer, therefore, sea and hill breezes that cool the air are dominant. Frosts are very rare, as are snowfalls, caused by the proximity to the inland coastal chain.

Castle of Amantea. The Castle dominates the town from the top of the hill, with the Mastio tower in the center and the ruins of the old Church of San Francesco d'Assisi (perhaps ex-mosque) not far away. From the studies of Enzo Fera the coastal defense system built between 1100 and 1600 AD has been reconstructed. C.

Before the old route of the main road 18 Tirrena Inferiore was opened in the thirties of the twentieth century, the historic center was practically completely closed to motor vehicle traffic. Still in the 21st century, the access paths to the ruins of the Castle and the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi are dirt paths that are difficult to walk even on foot, and a good part of the historic center, around the Church of Sant'Elia and the ex- College of the Jesuit Fathers.

On March 27th the birth of Saint Francis is celebrated, while on April 2nd (canonical feast of the Saint of Paola) death is celebrated. The solemn celebrations in honor of San Francesco di Paola are held from 1 to 4 May, with several processions on land and sea of the "bust" of the Saint and the cloak. Tradition has it that a boatman refused to ferry San Francesco from the Calabrian coast to Messina and the Saint crossed the strait with his own cloak. San Francesco was proclaimed not only patron of Calabria but also patron of seafarers.
