A much loved and incredibly well appointed seven bedroom holiday house on the stunning West Coast of Sutherland. Extremely comfortable accommodation with every modern convenience provided. From Wi-Fi throughout the house to a heated dog room, from a large AGA to bread makers and even an ice cream maker. Clashnessie beach is only 200 yards down the track and the breathtaking Waterfall (after which Clasnhessie is named) is just a short walk up the strath, with lochs for fishing beyond (permit required). Amazing walks from the house in all directions, with breathtaking views of the Sutherland's iconic mountains: Quinag, Stac Pollaidh, Suilven and Canisp. Walking, sea kayaking, llama trekking, bicycling, horse riding, fly and sea fishing, painting and more are all available locally. Excellent Red Deer stalking and fly fishing on the Assynt and neighbouring estates. Several West Coast spate rivers are within easy reach. The Rivers Inver and Kirkaig offer accessible and wild salmon fishing. Experience Europe's last real wilderness and return to the warmth and comfort of our extremely well equipped home. This is as far from your average holiday let as you can get! Full and half board catering is available by separate arrangement with Christine, our housekeeper (and professional chef).

About Edward Hayter

Our parents George and Annabel, bought this house for the family in 1993 to mark their 25th Wedding Anniversary. It was extended in 2007 to accommodate our growing family and to enable us to all be there together. We now run the house and still use it a lot ourselves.

Why Edward Hayter chose Highland

Inchnafearna (transl. 'Field of Alders') is a wonderfully comfortable house and is very well appointed in all respects. Warm and cosy, with comfortable beds all with heated under-blankets. A kitchen to die for. Many of our guests say that the house is better kitted out than their own homes. There is a one acre well tended and colourful garden, looked after by our gardener, Howard. On summer days it is a joy to sit on the terrace (a sun trap facing South West) and watch the buzzards soaring into the sky and listen to the sound of the waterfall and the small burn which runs past the back of the house. Whatever the weather, you can be assured of a return to a warm welcome at Inchnafearna. We look forward to welcoming you to Inchnafearna and know you'll love it as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

This house has everything you could need and want, and is truly a home from home. Very well heated by night storage heaters, all beds have very warm duvets and quilts with electric under-blankets. The AGA, wood burningstove and further storage heaters keep the kitchen and living area toasty warm too. Electricity and fuel for the multi fuel stove is included in the price. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, from bread makers and ice cream machines to toasted sandwich makers and quality knives. 2 dishwashers makes for easy turnaround between meals should the house be full. Up to 3 pets are welcome. The garden is substantial and dog proof for your peace of mind and having slept in the heated dog room, they won't want to go home! The Boat House: Has a heated dog room with airer above, a chest freezer, boot storage and a sink for cleaning your outdoor gear and feeding the dogs. There is a paved terrace on the South West side of the house with a teak table and garden chairs. A rotating clothes drier can be put into a hole in the terrace. There are swings and a slide in the garden for children to use. Scullery: Belfast sink, larder fridge (in addition to the one in the kitchen), 2x washing machines, 2x tumble dryers, iron and ironing board, 2 electric bread-makers and a ceiling mounted clothes airer. High quality bedding, linen and large fluffy bath towels are provided as part of the cleaning/Maid service: The house is always clean and ready for your arrival. Beach towels are not provided, please bring your own. Dining area - table seats 14 people in comfort with Portmeirion china and Villeroy & Boch glassware. Living area – There are three large/deep sofas and a long window seat (perfect for a snooze in the afternoon sun), a Clavinova digital piano, 2 TVs - one with Apple TV, the other with free-sat with a VCR and DVD player with a good selection of DVDs and videos for all ages and a stereo music system. Books, toys, jigsaws and adult board games.

Great location, well equipped, recommended

Just as described - well equipped, comfortable and clean. Very handy for the beach, great views. Suited our party of 14 (including 4 kids) very well. Minor problem with hot water was sorted, although not quite as quickly as it could have been. Would recommend it at any time of year for a secluded getaway.

Tranquil, spacious and well equipped holiday home

We have had two fantastic breaks with friends at this house and would return again and again if we could! The house is spacious and sits in a tranquil setting just above the beach. It is exceptionally comfortable and warm, beautifully decorated and has a very well equipped kitchen. The house has a gorgeous view of Clashnessie Bay and the sandy beach is only a couple of minutes' walk away - our children spent many happy afternoons building sandcastles and playing games there. We also enjoyed all that the surrounding area had to offer including fabulous moorland walks, trips to the waterfall, fishing expeditions and even a boat trip to see the seals. We would highly recommend the house for families as it is the perfect base for a holiday.

Fabulous Scottish Retreat

Wonderful house in a beautiful location

We enjoyed a wonderful few days at Inchnafearna. The house is perfect with everything you could need and more. The views are breath-taking and a beach with golden sand is only a short walk from the door. The beds were so comfortable with luxurious cotton bedding and the layout of the house means it suits several families staying together. We would recommend this house to friends and family - a perfect get-away for those looking for an idyllic coastal holiday away from the crowds.

Welcoming & Rewarding Highland Retreat

We first visited the house in the late 1990s. It was already a modernised crofters cottage and made a superb and comfortable base for visiting the surrounding area. Since having children we have made a point of returning every 3 years or so. While the house has changed considerably since our first visit (it is simply the best-equipped, warm, relaxing and welcoming holiday home we have ever stayed in), the region has not. This part of the Highlands is dramatic, beautiful, challenging, enjoyable and beguiling. Mountains, beaches, long walks, short walks, fishing, musselling, & prawns to die for. There is something for all ages. And if, on the odd occasion, the weather is resolutely against one venturing outside, inside there is space for everyone to do their own thing. Our one disappointment: we live abroad and cannot bring the dog!
