There are a couple of parks for children and pleasant scenic public walks around a local farm situated at the end of the road.

Local pubs are within a 10 minute walk and offer food at very reasonable prices or facility to order takeaways and eat-in at pub.

There is a wealth of local attractions to visit:

Winchester City Mill, Bridge Street is a rare example of an urban working corn mill, powered by the fast-flowing River Itchen, which can be seen passing under the mill.

Winchester Cathedral - The long history of this sacred place stretches back over 15 centuries. You’ll find so much to discover: glorious church architecture and tiny crafted details, priceless treasures and great works of art, historic events and famous people.

City Museum, The Square has three galleries that tell the story of Winchesters' past from the Iron Age to the present. Features include mosaics and reconstructed Victorian High Street shops.

The Royal Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum situated adjacent to Winchesters' Great Hall and within easy walking distance of the city centre, The Royal Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum, opened in 1989, is one of the best regimental museums in the country. It is also one of Winchesters' five military museums.

The Hospital of St Cross nestling in the water meadows alongside the River Itchen and in the shadow of St Catherine’s Hill lies the ancient Hospital of St Cross. Reknowned for the tranquility of its setting and the beauty of its architecture, the Hospital is one of England’s oldest continuing almshouses.

The Gurkha Museum at Winchester tells the moving and unique story of Gurkha service to the British Crown and its people for nearly 200 years

The Great Hall (Home of the Round Table) is one of the finest surviving medieval halls which contains the legendary Round Table which has been famous for centuries for its links with the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium is a unique, exciting interactive centre administered by the educational charity, The Hampshire Technology Centre Trust Ltd, with the specific purpose of promoting the knowledge and understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Old Winchester Hill is an amazing location looking out from a flat-topped chalk spur. The South Downs long-distance footpath crosses the site and so it is a popular spot for walkers and picnickers.

Winnall Moors - It is easy to forget in this tranquil spot that the bustling city centre is a short walk away. Winnall Moors has the renowned and beautiful River Itchen flowing throughout its length, providing much needed water for the wet grasslands, reed beds, wet woodlands and ponds.

Theatre Royal Winchester is a beautiful 400 seat venue, rich in history but fully attuned to the 21st century and situated at the cultural heart of the city of Winchester. In 2014 Theatre Royal Winchester celebrates its centenary. With its Edwardian-style auditorium and contemporary refurbishments, it is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful theatres in the south of England

The Chesil Theatre home of the Winchester Dramatic Society formed over 150 years ago is an innovative and friendly amateur company based in a superb medieval building with an intimate 75-seat studio-style theatre which provides a versatile performance space.

Winchester College Founded in 1382 is believed to be the oldest continuously running school in the country. Guided tours concentrate on the medieval heart of the College, and include Chamber Court; the 14th century Gothic Chapel, with one of the earliest examples of a wooden vaulted roof; College Hall, the original Scholars' dining room; School, the seventeenth century redbrick schoolroom and the original medieval cloister. These great buildings are set behind the cathedral and close to the Bishops Palace and the river. Take in the college book shop just along the road - a truly great bookstore with all the ambiance of its age and ust through the city gate is the cathedral.

The Royal Hampshire Regiment Memorial Garden & Museum is very conveniently situated close to the town centre. The building is imposing both inside and outside giving a good insight into the History of the old Regiment.

The King's Royal Hussars Museum at the top end of the town tells the story of the Hussars and the charge of the 600 hundred. The museum brings the life and times of the regiments to life right up to modern day.

Westgate Museum, High Street has a small collection on antiquities and a nice view of the town from the battlements above.

Wolvesey Castle, College Street is not truly a castle, but rather the ruins of a bishop's house. Wolvesey has been an important residence of the wealthy and powerful Bishops of Winchester since Anglo-Saxon times. Standing next to Winchester Cathedral, the extensive surviving ruins of the palace date largely from the 12th-century work of Bishop Henry of Blois. The last great occasion here was on 25 July 1554, when Queen Mary and Philip of Spain held their wedding breakfast in the East Hall. Definitely worth the walk along the river to visit this historical ruin.

St Catherine's Hill - a 58 hectare flower-rich chalk grassland with an abundance of wild flowers and butterflies. This is a great place to enjoy wildlife, ancient monuments and the most spectacular views over Winchester, the Itchen Valley and the surrounding countryside. St Catherine’s Hill is a fabulous place to enjoy a summer walk and picnic.

Stockbridge Wildlife & History Walk - Explore this isolated island of characteristic chalk downland set in a sea of intensively farmed land.

The Brooks Shopping Centre offers a weather protected shopping experience with it's fully enclosed malls situated in the heart of the historic city of Winchester. Car parking is easy with the centre's car park connecting straight into the malls by lifts and stairs.

Excellent location, clean and tidy house

  • 5 of 5

We arrived a family of six to a pleasant, clean, well-utilized, and a fully equipped kitchen in the house. home owners welcomed us warmly and helped us all what it takes. Excellent location and can be good start for exploring the region. Unfortunately we were not able to enjoy the Jacuzzi because relatively few operating hours.

Owner's Response: Hot tub operating hours are 11am till 8pm (9 hours) and are clearly posted on the website, in the house manual and on the hot tub itself. The guests came home after 9pm one evening and asked if they could use it (even though the closed sign was up). My husband explained that it was not possible as it had just had chemicals added, which need approximately 12 hours before guests can use again. Hence the treatment is carried out over night. There had been every opportunity for the guests to use the hot tub during the opening hours, they simply chose not to.

The Annexe is a wonderful, immaculate and well-presented guesthouse in a central, historic location.

  • 5 of 5

The Annexe is a very comfortable guesthouse that is maintained in impeccable order. Winchester is a historic, charming and very central location with easy access to many nearby sites - not far from London, close to Bath and nearby to Stonehenge and Bristol. The house offers the most well-ordered and cleanly accommodations in which we've stayed. The owners have put effort into all the details including the first-class skylights, kitchen and bathroom fixtures and beautiful white oak doors (which my husband loved). The upstairs tub was gorgeous and the beds were very comfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay at this guesthouse after being in the road traveling (2adults, 2 older teenagers). Thank you Wendy!
