A period cobblers shop-fronted house on the solway coast close to Cockermouth

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

The owners part time residence, the property has a Victorian Old Cobblers shop front (Sewells Cobblers) with 2/3 bed accommodation. Quirky and unique, it is 15 mins or 6 miles to Cockermouth, 25 minutes to Keswick, 2 mins walk to the Town with Family Bakers, Butchers a Co-Op and Lidl and a selection of independent retail businesses, Promenade, Harbour, Roman museum, Aquarium & The Wave Venue with climbing and caving experience attractions etc. It is ideal for exploring the Solway Coastand and the Lake District is within easy reach by car and public transport. The property is fully furnished in a mix of Victorian / Edwardian with Contemporary styles and equipped for relaxation and adventure. An alternative to central Lakes options. The old shop is the 'Vintage & Quirky' antique shop that is rarely open.

Accommodation comprises entrance hall, study/lobby, dining kitchen, utility, overgrown garden formed from the ruins of the old Cobblers workshops (Formerly Armstrongs' Clothiers) On the first floor, there is a large sitting room with settees and a woodburning stove, T.V. Vintage Hi Fi etc.

Bathroom in Victorian style.

Next floor up are two bedrooms with double beds and then very steep stairs to a quirky loft with a further double bed and a single 'put you up' settee that could sleep 1. I would prefer adults only to use the loft, and with caution as the stairs are very steep and the decor is unusual /spooky!

The town dates from Roman times with Harbour and Prom and has Pub's cafes and shops. There is a Plaza Cinema within 10 minutes drive. The location itself is only 2 minutes walk to fantastic views over the Solway Firth to Dumfries. The promenade is an easy walk to the Golf Course and beach with excellent Cycle Paths. Part of the Coast to Coast Cycle route.

Bassenthwaite Lake (with an Osprey viewing point), Keswick and Derwent water are the closest lakes and, slightly further afield, Dove Cottage (home of William Wordsworth), Ruskin's House, Scawfell Pike (the highest mountain in England) and the Eskdale and Wasdale Valley's with owners' favourite Wastwater Lake and an array of walks, eating places and real ale pubs.
