Apartment in Kalkan, Turkey - Large Pool And All The Facilities You Need

Location, location, location - Daybreak apartment, in the superbly well-maintained Nur Apartment block, is in one of the most sought-after locations in Kalkan. Close to the supermarkets, banks, shops, restaurants and bars - but in a secluded and private location, with a huge pool - this spacious and comfortable apartment has everything you need for a fabulous, relaxing holiday in the heart of Kalkan.

Daybreak apartment is the 2-bedroom penthouse of the small block of five apartments and has the following specifications:

Two double bedrooms, each with en-suite shower room/wc. Daybreak sleeps up to six people, including the two large, comfortable sofa-beds in the lounge area.

Full air-conditioning.

Spacious, comfortable lounge on one side and a kitchen/diner on the other side; the lounge area has two large sofa-beds.

Kitchen area has all you need for a comfortable stay including oven/hob; washing machine; fridge freezer; kettle; microwave, toaster; coffee machine; iron and ironing board etc; inside dining area has table with six chairs (there are also tables and seating on both balconies for outdoor dining).

About the Owner

We first came to Kalkan on honeymoon in 2004 and stayed at the old Samira Hotel. We just fell in love with the town and, above all, its people.

So much so, that we booked to return the following year - but this time decided we had to take the plunge and buy our own little piece of this paradise! But, we knew we would have to rent it out, in order to cover our costs. So then came the difficult decisions: Villa or apartment? In the town, or up the hill? In the end, the choice was relatively easy. Our agent showed us the apartments that were being sold off from the Hotel Nur and, once we saw Apartment 303 (we now call it 'Sunrise') we knew that had to be the one! Great location; fantastic pool; easy to manage; 24/7 security. Why look elsewhere?

Over the following few years we gradually added 3 of the remaining apartments in the block including this one, daybreak, which we bought in 2011 (and we also manage the other one in the block on behalf of its South African owner) and based on the success of our rental system and marketing, we decided that we should offer our rental management services to other private owners in Kalkan, who don't have the time, expertise or inclination to manage rentals themselves.

We incorporated our UK company, Kalkan Secrets Limited, in April 2013 and this coincided with our decision to spend a couple of years living in Kalkan; mainly in order to establish a reliable Turkish property management team. We lived onsite at the Nur Apartments during 2013, then moved off-site to the Falcon Villas, on the edge of the old town. Martyn still travelled back to the UK on a regular basis to see his business clients (he is a financial adviser - principal of Marlow Wealth Management) leaving Fiona to run Kalkan Secrets Limited* on a day-to-day basis.

We have now returned to the UK but still spend a lot of time in Kalkan, which is very much our "home from home".

Guestbook comments from the manager

We stayed at the Nur apartments in August 2015. We were a party of eleven total; four in Daybreak, four in Dusk and three of us in Sunrise.

The apartments were very clean and well-appointed and during our fortnight the apartments were re-cleaned and our bed linen and bath/hand towels were replaced. It is worth noting that beach towels are also provided (and changed) during your stay – saving considerably on your luggage allowance. As does the provision of a washing machine, if you were going for a week you could almost get away with hand baggage – toiletries being cheap enough to buy in the supermarket that’s two minutes’ walk away.

We probably split our eating in and eating out pretty evenly. There are lots of good, and good value restaurants in Kalkan but if you want to self-cater then the apartments are well enough equipped that you can without having to compromise; gas hob, microwave, electric oven and all the utensils you would commonly need. Even the cutlery matched…!

Although we were eleven, and there were other parties staying at Nur there was never any issue with either sunbeds or space around the pool which is larger than you would expect for ‘just’ apartments. The pool and its surround were always clean and tidy.

The apartments are about 10-15 minutes uphill from Kalkan old-town and harbour (downhill is much quicker!) and you would probably be best to avoid a midday return uphill, but in the evenings after dinner it was never an issue and we had a seven year old with us…

The arranged transfers to and from Dalaman airport were painless, and between eleven the cost was very reasonable given it is 75-90 minutes.

In summary, Kalkan is very pretty, the apartments are value for money, spotless, well-appointed, nicely located, well looked after and have a great pool. We would not hesitate to recommend them to couples, families or indeed larger groups such as ours.

Lovely apartment, great resort

  • 5 of 5

This was my fifth visit to Nur apartments. We had the penthouse apartment again, which is fantastic - very spacious with beautiful views of the mountains and Kalkan. The apartments are always spotlessly clean, as is the pool area. Kalkan itself has a huge choice of excellent restaurants and everyone is so friendly and welcoming.

Daybreak, a wonderful base for a Turkish adventure

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to Kalkan and renting Kalkan Secrets apartments. Daybreak is the best apartment by far with stunning views across the valley and across to the neighbouring mountain. Fiona and Martyn have thought of everything that you could possibly need and the apartment was spotless, spacious and very well-equipped. We enjoy the ability to take a stroll down the hill into the village of Kalkan and sample the delights of the numerous bars and restaurants whilst enjoying the gentle bustle of charming shops and activities around the harbour. The fusion of Eastern meets Mediterranean is an alluring mix which evokes feelings that you are transported to a land with a very different culture. The locals are helpful and friendly without being too overbearing. We enjoy the proximity of Daybreak and the other apartments to village life and its amenities but like the ability to enjoy the privacy of the private pool and garden. Daybreak and the other apartments are to be highly recommended and the perfect base for a family holiday with plenty of sightseeing within an easy drive or by boat trips, exploring the stunning coastline.

Lived up to expectations as usual

  • 5 of 5

The property was clean and had everything needed for a base to enjoy everything Kalkan has to offer - great views, restaurants and friendly people. The pool was brilliant and we had it to ourselves nearly every day.

If we needed any help, it was on hand. We had a couple of days of very strong winds, causing the balcony furniture and parasols to blow over but there was support to ensure everything was perfect again. In fact the help arrived without us even asking for it. This just sums up the excellent service we have come to expect when staying at the Nur apartments. We have already made enquiries for next year and will be returning.

Location

From the Owner

Daybreak is spacious, light and airy with two large balconies (actually they are roof terraces) and some nice views over the mountains, the village and bay. The terrace overlooking the pool gets the sun in the morning and the other terrace gets the sun in the evening, so you really get the best of both here, so you can have the sun all day (or the shade all day if you prefer)! We love all the Nur Apartments but this one has a special place in our hearts if only because it's the penthouse!
