About the property

The Old Band Room - a cottage that sleeps 5 guests in 3 bedrooms

Welcome to The Old Band Room, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish Cotswold holiday rentals.

Please click More Details to read about the House Rules.

The Old Band Room is a traditional Cotswold stone property, with a wealth of character features and an interesting history, having once been used to practise in by the military bands of the surrounding villages. The cottage is located in the heart of the popular and picturesque village of Naunton, which is set well away from busy roads and benefits from a good village pub, a golf course and many beautiful walks straight from the doorstep. The well known market towns of Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water are both within six miles, with their wide range of pubs, shops and restaurants. Naunton is also within easy reach of many tourist destinations, including Oxford, Blenheim Palace and Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

The cottage has lots of traditional character, including oak beams, wooden floors and exposed Cotswold stone walls. Complementing these character features, the cottage has modern facilities, including a TV with DVD player and a well presented kitchen.

The Old Band Room sleeps a maximum of five people (4 adults and 1 child), in three bedrooms, with two bathrooms. There is a lovely garden just across the lane from the cottage, which sits on the shallow stream running through the village, and quiet, on street parking is available close to the cottage. The Old Band Room is perfect for families or small groups of friends looking for a peaceful break in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds region.

Fabulous Cottage in a beautiful Village! Highly Recommend

  • 5 of 5

Kim and Lynne have truly thought of everything. This is the perfect property to stay in. Warm, Cozy and Luxurious feeling. The dog enjoyed her stay too.

Our boys who are 8 and 5 enjoyed having bedrooms with a 'secret' door between them. Our 5 year old loved his 'harry potter' bedroom.

Every aspect of this property was perfect and I am extremely fussy as I have a background in venue finding and event planning, therefore staying in some incredible venues over the years. This is truly top notch!

We have said as a family we intend to make this trip an annual one and come back year after year as we just can not fault our stay.

details such as having dog towels for when your pup gets muddy on the walks is just so thoughtful.

It was very good value for money too. I will note that if you like good food, 2 miles away is 'The Hollow Bottom' in Guiting Power - please go, you will love it!

Great launching point for Cotswold exploration ...

  • 5 of 5

The Old Band Room made my family of four (kids 15 and 14) feel instantly at home. The furnishings are so cozy, the kitchen is so well-appointed, and the bedrooms are so comfortable that we enjoyed our time in the house almost as much as we enjoyed hiking outside it. I was personally worried, because the renters allow dogs on the main floor, that we would enter to a heavy dog smell or pet hair. My daughter is particularly sensitive to that stuff. But there wasn't a trace! Super clean! I loved the timber and stone décor of the house, along with the pictures on the stairway of the old bands that once practiced there. The two primary bedrooms are spacious. The third is more like Harry Potter's cupboard under the stairs, except that Potter didn't have an airy skylight or end table or nice bed. While the bed is sized for children, it was just big enough for my daughter, who is 5-7. She was comfortable. Having a washing machine was nice, but it was damp outside and it took us ages to dry clothes on a rack inside. The kitchen was modern and spacious, as was the living room where my kids collapsed after our daily activities. The house is immediately located on the Wardens Way trail, which we used to hike to/from Bournton on the Water. The huge negative on our trip was the neighboring house renovation. Maybe the tiny bridge across the creek to the neighboring house was too narrow or something, but it made our front door the dumping place for concrete and palates of wood and construction debris. At one point, I really thought a concrete truck was backing right through the Old Band Room window and into our living room. We're talking inches! My family didn't care. We were up by 7 a.m. anyway when construction work started. And we were out and about during the day. But for any visitors who are staying longer, and envisioning the house itself as a place for peace and quiet, they should receive an accurate update on construction progress before booking in 2017. That I gave it 5 stars, despite this substantive issue, reflects the awesomeness of the Old Band Room itself!

Owner's Response: We are pleased you enjoyed the Old Band Room and the general area, which we also regard as stunning. We do take a pride in presenting the cottage as we would like to enjoy it ourselves and it gives us great pleasure to receive such positive comments about the place. The building work across the bridge is at times a nuisance and is, we understand, a source of annoyance to many local residents, who talk to us when we do the changeovers. We have contacted the home owner and builder and acknowledged their right to renovate their home, but simply requested advance notice of a concrete or material delivery, just so we can advice guests in more detail of what could happen during their stay. Unfortunately, whilst the men on site are courteous, the owner and builder do not give us warning of their planned work. We have been in contact with the local authority about the out hours working and the methods of delivery. We hope they will be able to help. On a positive note, we have managed to contact the owner of the building company, an older gentleman who appeared sympathetic to our concerns. he has given us his personal contact details and advised us that there is no more concrete work to be done. He has also undertaken to get his contract manager to be more informative of future deliveries. They have also advised they have deployed extra operatives to try to finish the work asap. We are hopeful the builder will be more co-operative with the local community going forward.

Other Activities:

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the "Heart of England". The name Cotswold means "sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides".

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

Car: Naunton is easily accessed by car, being located approximately 4 miles away from the A429 (Fosse Way) and approximately 6 miles away from the A40, which are two of the main roads running through the North Cotswolds.

Train: The nearest railway station to Naunton is Kingham (approximately 10 miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of less than 90 minutes.

Plane: Naunton is within easy reach of a number of international airports: Birmingham International Airport: 50 miles, approximately 70 minute drive; Heathrow International Airport: 78 miles, approximately 100 minute drive; Bristol International Airport: 60 miles, approximately 80 minute drive.
