Overview

About the property

Refresh the soul in this beautiful protected area of the Mediterranean

Just few minutes walk from the stunning shores of the Ionian sea, this fairy-tale Trullo will enchant and enthral you: relax and unwind in beautiful natural stone and wood interiors; wander around the enchanting sun-filled gardens, natural rock formations and gentle meandering paths; sit under the shade of the silver olive trees; and take a dip in the Trullo’s natural rock water pool with waterfall and mesmerizing hidden grotto.

Set in one acre of olive grove and fig orchards, the Trullo’s idyllic private grounds boast a natural rock/plunge pool and waterfall, perfect for those early morning karma dips to refresh the soul. With sun all day long, the sweet smelling canopy of olive and fruit trees provide natural shade and tranquility.

Stroll leisurely to the sea (a delightful mix of sand and rocks) and pass by the Palude del Capitano Natural Park. The nearby Agriturismo (also within walking distance) provides locally farmed food and specialty cheeses. If you prefer to eat at home, the fully equipped kitchen, outdoor barbeque and wonderful old oak table on the patio provide the perfect setting for outdoor dining.

Situated at the edge of Porto Selvaggio and Palude del Capitano Natural Park, and 1km south of the white sand beach of Sant’Isidoro, the Trullo forms part of the protected portion of the Mediterranean.

The interiors of the Trullo have been stunningly converted to sleep a maximum 6 in two double bedrooms and option to convert the ample living room into an extra third bedroom (sofa bed).

The fully equipped kitchen has a wood-burning oven for central heating and fresh roasted chestnuts in the winter.

The rest room is set in a hamm’am style annex just off of the living room and is equipped with luxury rain shower and deep stone bath for a rejuvenating Moroccan bathing experience.

Both the living room and kitchen open out on to a large stone patio for yet more opportunity to relax, refresh and recharge. Take an evening ‘aperitivo’ on the roof terrace and watch the sunset over the sea.

For things to do around the Trullo, Sant’Isidoro is just a kilometre away and has a regular fruit and vegetable market as well as two or three well-stocked supermarkets. There are also a number of patisseries that sell the familiar “pasticciotto” (a boat shaped pastry with custard cream inside). If you travel the south along the coast you will find Santa Caterina with it’s exclusive marina and assortment of trendy and traditional bars and restaurants.

Nardò, 8 kilometres inland, is a full-on medieval town for the discerning antiquarian, and perfect purveyor of the local savoury snack of choice, the “rustic” (mozzarella and tomato in a puff pastry wrap). It’s here you will also find probably the best pizza south of Napoli at Ciro’ Pizza...

For your vacation needs we can help with everything you require, from car or bike hire, to restaurant or historic/culinary tour recommendations. To make use of the huge selection of beaches along the Ionic and Adriatic coasts we are also at your service for tips for snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking, kite surfing and sailing opportunities.

A NOTE ABOUT CHILDREN

Please note that the natural rock pool is open and unguarded. The deepest section can range from 1.6m to 1.8m (and sometimes a little more depending on sea level on the day). For this reason we are unable to take bookings from families with children younger than 12 years old. For families with older children we stress that you must be present at all times and take full responsibility for the safety of your children in the garden and around the pool. We apologise in advance for any bookings we decline but every year we read of terribly sad holiday incidents involving children near water and must be clear on this issue. Thank you.

Secluded, private beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the villa during July 2017. It is a stunning place to spend a week. There were only two of us in a villa which is designed for four, but would at a push, sleep six but you lose the siting room, (we never used it anyway as the extensive garden of fig and olive trees are far more inviting). Sabina was a wonderfully warm, generous owner who has a massive passion for her villa, restored from an old farm trulli. It has been equipped and furnished beautifully with everything you could need for a week's stay. The garden is beautiful too with different areas of shade to sit in and of course the clear, cold natural pool to cool off in. Going up on to the roof to watch the sunset over the sea was beautiful too. Supermarkets and shops nearby (not a walk), a car is essential. 10 minute walk to a small sandy beach (extremely busy in the Italian summer holidays) or head straight out from the villa to the rocky shoreline (need aqua shoes). Sabina full of suggestions of where to go and where to eat. We found best beaches nearer Gallipoli (Paula Bianca) again very busy in the high season, but crystal clear water and soft sand. You just need to get away, if possible, from the regimented brollies and sunbeds at the Lidos.

Impressive

  • 4 of 5

A beautiful reconstruction of a traditional Trullo, very thoughtfully designed with plenty of character and charm. Set in a very tranquil and calm area. Really lovely and unusual garden with natural rocks and beautiful natural rock pool - where the brave can cool off! The whole garden is very beautifully and romantically lit at night.

The trullo itself is very well and comfortably furnished with everything you require for a self catering holiday. Directly opposite is a nature park where you can take some lovely walks, which lead you onto the coastline with some beautiful little isolated bathing coves and rock pools. You can even walk to two very nice bar/restaurants. Very slightly further afield the local village has a couple of very good seafood restaurants ( only open weekends out of season). Sabina the owner is utterly charming and delighted to help with recommendations and booking tours.

Brilliant stay for our honeymoon, in a beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the villa for 2 weeks during August for our honeymoon. The house itself is beautifully designed and decorated, combining the character of the old trullo with all the modern comforts that we needed to make our stay perfect. The outside area was spacious, with lots of areas to relax, and a dip in the rock-pool made for a very refreshing wake up each morning. The owner Sabina was incredibly helpful, recommending restaurants, beaches and towns for us to visit, and went out of her way to make reservations anywhere we planned on going. We hope to visit again, and would highly recommend staying here.

Trulli Villa

  • 5 of 5

We had an exceptional visit to this property, which more than met our expectations in every way with its astonishing natural beauty . The photos cannot express the peace and tranquillity of this location transporting us away into a different world. With the weather in Puglia exceptionally hot, the natural aquifer where the crystal clear fresh water comes from below ground at a constant 18 degrees was essential .Forget swimming pools this is a unique and wonderful addition to the property with its olive grove to relax in in the shade. The architecturally designed house with its quirky opening roofed bedrooms is amazing and well appointed making the stay very comfortable.

A car is essential for seeking out the best restaurants locally, as this is a remote area some distance from large towns such as Gallipoli, but the local restaurants serve some of the best wine and seafood of Italy. You have to try the specialities of the region such as octopus and sea urchins.Very much an Italian seaside resort with casual family dinning in the seafront restaurants which are a few kilometres away.

Go visit and find this for yourself

Thanks Sabine for your kind hospitality

Perfection

  • 5 of 5

We are lovers of Puglia and ,over the years, have stayed at a number of different Trulli's ,which, have all been interesting ,this Trulli's ,however, exceeded very expectation ..The house was unique ,having been restored by its architect owners to the highest standard with many creative and quirky features both inside the villa and throughout the grounds.

The natural pool which is formed into the rocks ,fed by springs, crystal clear ,was fantastic and an early morning dip was a great way to see start very day.

Close to a small supermarket for essentials and road side fruit and vegetables stalls have a wonderful variety of produce for delicious lunches and dinners which we enjoyed on the beautiful terrace of the Trulli's gardens .Local wines are inexpensive and very very good.

Five minutes to the beaches with small tavernas and delicious fresh sea food and within easy car distance of the cultural locations that should not be missed .The nearby farm house restaurant is a must for dinner but prepare to loosen your belt a few notches after, delightfull staff and food to die for.

The owner ,Sabina was delightful and helpful in offering advice and suggestions on any questions we had which were not many as everything is so easily laid out in the house.

A most wonderful week, totally relaxing and the ideal house and gardens to recharge ones batteries .

Our thanks for a Trulli wonderful stay.
