Sheplegh Court is a magnificent, historic country house, set in 22 acres of beautiful tranquil grounds nestling in the folds of a lovely valley with extensive gardens, woods, parkland and views across glorious South Devon countryside. The country house is divided into luxury apartments with superb on-site facilities, an all-weather tennis court, conservatory, indoor heated pool (open all year), outdoor heated pool (June to September), sauna and snooker room with full-size table. In 1944 it became the headquarters of General Eisenhower during rehearsals in Start Bay for the D-day landings. It was the venue for a famous planning meeting between Eisenhower, Churchill, De Gaulle and Montgomery.

5 Sheplegh Court (1st & 2nd Floor)

A comfortable and well-presented two-storey flat with lovely views over the gardens. The accommodation is tastefully furnished and very well equipped, and is an ideal base for a family or couple looking for a peaceful retreat in an idyllic country setting. One allocated parking space.

LOCATION

Sheplegh Court is located in the heart of the South Devon countryside approximately 4 miles West of the historic naval port of Dartmouth, and 3 miles from the nearest beach at Blackpool Sands. In 1944 it became the headquarters of General Eisenhower during rehearsals in Start Bay for the D-day landings. It was the venue for a famous planning meeting between Eisenhower, Churchill, De Gaulle and Montgomery.

VIEWS

Very pleasant views over the courtyard and the gardens from most rooms.

ENTRANCE

From a communal entrance a flight of stairs lead to the flat on the first floor.

KITCHEN/SITTING/DINING ROOM

The open-plan living accommodation features a modern kitchen with white hi-gloss units, four-ring ceramic hob and electric oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and breakfast bar with two stools. The carpeted sitting area has a double leather sofa, two occasional chairs, glass coffee table, flatscreen TV and DVD player. Folding wooden dining table with four chairs.

BEDROOMS

At first floor level is a twin bedroom with two single beds, bedside table, dressing chair and fitted wardrobe. On the top (second) floor is a lovely master bedroom with double bed, bedside units, seating/day bed, fitted wardrobes, and en suite with shower, w.c. and wash-hand basin. Double patio doors lead out to small terraced balcony with lovely views. N.B. All duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels (excluding beach towels) are supplied.

BATH/SHOWER ROOMS

In addition to the en suite (above) there is a tiled bathroom on the first floor with bath, shower (over), w.c. and wash-hand basin.

LEISURE FACILITIES

Sheplegh Court residents have full use of an indoor swimming pool, sauna, snooker room, outdoor heated pool (outdoor pool open between 30th May and 30th September) and all weather tennis court.

LAUNDRY

Communal laundry with commercial-size washing machine and tumble dryer (available at additional cost)

OUTSIDE

22 acres of gardens, parkland and woodland.

PARKING

One allocated parking space.

OTHER INFORMATION Mostly carpet throughout with laminate and tiling in the kitchen and bathroom. Electric heating and instant hot water. Strictly no smoking or pets permitted. Wireless broadband internet available.

Lovely apartment if you want a get away from it all holiday and Dartmouth isn't too far away.

This is a lovely apartment with everything you need for your stay, just be aware the road to it is a typical Devon narrow lane so if you meet a tractor be prepared to reverse to nearest passing place. Also if you are tall you will need to duck in the upstairs bedroom due to the low beams.

We had a lovely time and David & Anne (the owners) were very helpful and answered any queries quickly. It is a perfect place for a get away from it all break but if you want to be able to walk to the local pub this is not the place for you.

beautiful property in stunning grounds.

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay here. The apartment is clean and very well equipped. There is a huge amount to do nearby. We visited Dartmouth, the coastal path starting from the castle is particularly beautiful, so peaceful, and if you walk from the castle back in to town you pass all the stunning waterfront properties. We kayaked further up the Dart (there are many companies available), visited Totnes (bring your wallet-fab shops) and boogie boarded at gorgeous beaches. Our children loved returning to the property for a game of tennis and a swim at the end of the day. The outdoor pool was warm enough to swim in comfortably and situated in a super sunny spot. Thoroughly recommend this property and may return ourselves one day.

Excellent Stay

We greatly enjoyed our holiday period at No 5 Sheplegh Court, the apartment was very well equipped and very clean. The position of Sheplegh Court is most idyllic and once you drive through the gates you step into a very tranquil and beautiful setting - what is also attractive about Sheplegh Court is whilst you feel miles from anywhere you are actually only a short drive from beautiful Dartmouth, Kingsbridge etc. The extensive acres of gardens are beautifully kept and the residents we came into contact with were very welcoming. David was always very helpful and communicative and unusually like other website bookings he would call you personally to discuss your booking, therefore, giving you the opportunity to freely ask any questions relating the the apartment, facilities etc. The communual facilities were great and we made a lot of use of the full size snooker table and dart board. All in all, thank you David and Anne we all had a wonderful time in your apartment and indeed Sheplegh Court.

Excellent apartment in an excellent setting

We had an lovely weekend break at this apartment, which has recently been modernised, but has been do so beautifully so as to retain the character of Sheplegh Court.

The master-bedroom is large and is located in the converted loft, with a nice outside balcony. The modern kitchen was well equipped with cooker, grill, hob, fridge with mini-freezer, dishwasher, utensils, cutlery, etc.

The owners David and Anne were very helpful before out trip to ensure we could find everything easily on our arrival.

I highly recommend staying in this apartment.

5 Sheplegh Court

The apartment is within an impressive mansion, set in a beautiful woodland estate. The property is nicely decorated, and very well equipped. We found the beds to be excellent. It was so nice to sleep in proper beds (no sofa beds in sight), which were very comfortable. Sheplegh Court is located in a perfect spot as a base to explore either the coastline of Devon, or the awesome Dartmoor. It also has some great facilities for further entertainment, and it is remarkably quiet and peaceful. All in all, it is a great place to have a holiday.
