About Roger and Joan Brown

We are both (mostly) retired enjoying more time to spend with our family - especially our gorgeous 6 year old twin girls! We bought this property over 20 years ago and have lovingly modified and extended it to suit our own needs and taste. Now that our family no longer live with us, we have converted half the property into a guest wing. We have let the property for over 5 years and have an extensive list of satisfied guests.

Roger and Joan Brown purchased this cottage in 1993

Why Roger and Joan Brown chose Anstruther

The area we live in is called the East Neuk (or corner) of Fife. It is characterised by stunning coastal scenery and numerous small former fishing villages and towns each with their own character. Our cottage is situated in the small conservation village of Kilrenny within walking distance of the coastal communities of Cellardyke and Anstruther. St Andrews - the world-renowned university and golfing town - is 15 minutes drive from Kilrenny. It has a wide variety of independent shops and restaurants, fabulous sandy beaches and - of course - several world-class golf courses.

What makes this cottage unique

Our guest book comments record what they - and ourselves - find compelling about our property and the area in which we live.

Lorraine and I were delighted with everything and would definitely return to your lovely cottage. I think we mentioned that we have been so disappointed with some places in the past and as a result have always been a bit reluctant to book anything. We'd highly recommend Westbourne Cottage though! Thanks again so very much for restoring our faith in self-catering accommodation. Everything was perfect. We hope to see you both again sometime in the near future. John & Lorraine, Dalkeith

Many thanks for your hospitality during our stay. You have the most perfect self catering cottage and visitors could not ask for more. Alison and Jim, East Kilbride

What a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful break I had at Westbourne Cottage. The pressures of modern life are many and I was in need of a sanctuary that would let me off the merry-go-round. The simple décor, artwork choices, and attention to detail in soft furnishings and accessories created a haven of stylish tranquillity. Thank you for a wonderful break. Colin, Carluke.

Wonderful stay! Will see you again for another visit to your beautiful cottage. Sarah and Paul, Dalkeith

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful cottage. Patricia and George, Edinburgh

Very enjoyable stay. Lovely cottage, warm and comfortable. Jill and Colin, Stirling

Lovely cottage. Simple but elegant. We loved our time here. Sorry we could not stay longer. Eileen and Peter, Moffat

Very peaceful and relaxing. Just what we wanted. Brilliant! Thank you. Anne and Malcolm, Jarrow.

This is a great place to stay. 100% relaxing and everything provided. Margitte and Aldo, Italy

A covetable cottage – so many lovely touches. A perfect base for exploring

Beautiful and modern, wonderful touches

  • 5 of 5

We had a thoroughly wonderful time here. The cottage was both beautiful with its wood stove and decor but also very modern too and very well designed. Roger was very welcoming and helpful and we really appreciated all the little thoughtful touches that had been made in advance to make our stay even better and feel at home. The surrounding area is beautiful and this was a perfect base to visit places of nature at its finest.

Simply perfect

  • 5 of 5

No wonder this place featured in an interior design magazine. It is stunning and suited our needs perfectly. Roger and Joan are on hand with local information if required but they do give you space to enjoy the accommodation to the full. It was wonderfully equipped and everything was well thought out. Thank you for a great short break.
