About the property

4 bedroom, 3 bathroom self catered chalet with superb mountain views

Chalet Karibu is a luxury 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom chalet built in 2006. Sleeps 8 guests comfortably with an additional double sofa bed. Split over 3 floors with garage and ski room on the ground floor including heated boot warmers and washer/dryer.

The middle floor comprises open plan living space with a fabulous log burner and dining table which seats 10 people. There is a south facing balcony off the living area offering fabulous views of the Mont du Grange National Park directly opposite the chalet.

The sleeping accommodation is on the top floor comprising 2 X doubles (1 ensuite), 2 X twins and a separate bathroom and shower room. South facing balconies off the 2 double bedrooms.

There is plenty of outside parking in front of the chalet and a large split level decked area around the rear which is accessed out of the front door.

About Nicola Spencer

Since our first visit to Chatel in 2001 we both fell in love with the area and therefore bought the chalet from new in 2006. We love the valley and wider Portes du Soleil area in both winter and summer, so much so we got married here in 2008 !! Subsequently we have had two children who now enjoy Alps life as much as us!

We regard the chalet as our second home and hope you will love it as much as we do.

Great house

The house is divided into two. The part that is for rent is the right side of the house - the whole home containing two floors and a garage.

Everything in the house works fine and was perfect for us. We where two families (4 adults and 4 kids).

It isn't a ski-in/out house, so you have to be prepared to drive 8-10 min. Large supermarket is located within 5 min. drive.

The communication with owner was perfect. Very trustful.

If we should give the owner some improvement recommendations it would be;

1) setup a wifi extension to have it working on 2nd floor

2) the settees are worn

But - we had a lovely stay and I will only give all my recommendation to any who plans to rent this house.

We are aware that some of the leather on the sofas is starting to wear and we will be replacing them this Summer. Lovely well equipped chalet

We were absolutely delighted with this chalet. It was very well equipped and extremely comfortable. Lovely and warm too. The open plan kitchen/dining/living room is light and spacious and the wood burning stove at the end of a day on the slopes was good reason to stay at home. The Intermarche supermarket is very close and well stocked. We love to cook so really enjoyed planning a meal at home with some good wine followed by one of the board games provided by the owners of the house. We rented cars from Geneva airport and found the journey to the house to be quick and easy, as well as picturesque. We had slight concerns about driving when it snowed but to our amazement the local snow plough came all the way up the drive. The roads are well maintained throughout the region. Our favourite area for skiing was about 10 minutes drive away with plenty of car parking at the bottom of the lifts. Had some very good meals up the mountain at lunch time using the recommendations of the owner. All in all a great holiday which we hope to repeat next year. Thank you Nicola.

Situated just outside the idyllic Alpine resort of Chatel in the massive Portes du Soleil ski area in the French Alps.

This area covers 12 resorts straddling the French / Swiss border. There are over 650kms of pistes (not to mention the numerous Kms of off-piste), the area offers superb skiing and snowboarding for all ages and levels. From spacious and wide slopes for beginners, cruising runs for intermediates, and challenging black runs and off-piste skiing for the more advanced skiers, the huge Portes du Soleil ski area is a fantastic area with stunning scenery to explore.

Chatel and La Chapelle both offer a mix of open and wooded slopes suitable for all abilities. Nestled between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc the area around Chatel creates its own micro climate thus giving the area an amazing snow record - don't be fooled by a higher resort having better snow, this is not always the case ! With easy access to Avoriaz, Morzine and all of the Portes du Soleil, Chatel is an extremely convenient location to explore this massive linked ski area.

The summer months are equally as popular in the Portes du Soleil, and provides an abundance of outdoor activities. Situated just 30kms south of Lake Geneva, the Abondance Valley is a wonderful mix of mountains, lakes and rivers. It is the perfect base offering a whole range of different activities and places to visit. The valley has 3 main villages which have all retained their traditional alpine charm - Abondance, La Chapelle d'Abondance and Chatel. There are over 40 working farms in the valley, some of which you can visit to see how they make their famous local Abondance cheese. Each village has a local market on different days during the week, and there are many cafes, restaurants and shops to visit in all of the villages.

Abondance is very famous for its Abbey, which is considered one of the most famous monasteries in the Alps.

La Chapelle d'Abondance is perfectly located to climb Les Cornettes de Bises and the Mont de Grange, where you will discover mountain lakes, waterfalls, beautiful alpine flora and local wildlife.

Chatel boasts a brand new swimming pool and spa, tennis courts, a pitch and putt golf course, a summer luge and a whole range of other activities including horse riding and paragliding. The ski lifts open in mid June - mid September and provide an opening to over 800kms of walking trails and paths, and more extreme activities like mountain biking and the zip wire called the 'Fantasticable'.

Chalet Karibu is located in between the resorts of Chatel and La Chapelle d'Abondance, with the nearest ski lift within a 10 minute walk. The main supermarket for the area is only 2 minutes drive and the best Bar / Restaurant in the valley is a 1 minute drive or 12 minutes walk.
