Gorgeous Cottage In Tudor Manor Grounds, Family Friendly, Perfect Touring Base

Updated: 13-Nov-2016
Beautiful Cottage On Cornish Devon Border

The Old Piggery is a brand new barn conversion in the grounds of Treguddick Manor set in rolling farm land. With easy access to all tourist attractions, both North and South coasts and nestled between Bodmin moor and Dartmoor this historic location is easily accessible, family friendly and comfortable. Large garden, courtyard, double and bunk rooms. Modern bathroom, wood burner. Sorry no pets due to resident dogs/cat/chickens and farm location.

About the Owner

Until very recently The Old Piggery was in fact a hen house! When we first bought Treguddick Manor the children kept rabbits and chickens in this old barn and you will still see the evicted hens around and about. Treguddick Manor is a continuing family project and we are looking forward to sharing this wonderful, undiscovered part of Cornwall.

Lovely place inside but ..........

The property was lovely inside apart from the windows which hadn't been cleaned for ages so had to spend couple hours cleaning them .

The outside court yard over grown which we couldn't spend time sitting in .

The inside was nice warm and clean .

Owner's Response: We are glad you liked the Piggery. You are right to point out that the courtyard needed clearing. We have had bookings back to back all summer and couldn't easily get in. The weekend after you left was the first opportunity we had and the whole area was totally cleared up and we totally accept that it was overdue. I am sorry you felt you couldn't use the area. The windows had in fact been cleaned but because they are full length and surrounded by garden the heavy Cornish weather can leave them marked. We will double check them more often. We hope you still found the property well appointed, good value and in a great location. Thanks for your feedback.

We stayed for a week in August 2016, overall a very nice time was had, piggery well done out, lots of space outdoors for the children to let off steam. Coastal resorts within a 3/4 hr drive away, a quiet place to relax in.

We have just returned from our stay at "The Piggery", what a lovely home it is ..!! We were certainly as happy as pigs in s***,as they say.....We will .certainly be coming back again as it felt so homely. My family members are already showing interest in staying there too. Many thanks to Sarah, Ken & Family for making us feel very welcome. Yes and you too Oscar.!!

What a fantastic find and such a tranquil location. The Old Piggery was perfect for us for a week especially as I have mobility issues and it is all on the one level and not overly cluttered. Really well renovated and to a high quality and well furnished and appointed. Had a fantastic time and would definitely not hesitate to return again - thank you!

What a find!

The four of us came to this place on the recommendation of a family member, I am so glad we did. A bit like a farm stay but super smart as it has all mod cons, has an real fire, and is next to a gorgeous Manor House. This place is immaculate throughout and a real treat hidden away down a tree lined lane. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay there again myself as soon as I can.

From the Owner

The Old Piggery has been designed by us, converted by a local builder and we are proud of all of our local suppliers links. Cornwall is not just about the wonderful coastline (although the North Coast is less than 30 minutes drive away and is a favourite haunt of ours - we will happily share body boards and wet suits if you need them) Historic Launceston Castle, Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor and the mysterious Jamaica Inn are mere minutes away and all attractions between Exeter and the far West of Cornwall are within the hour.

From the Owner

The Old Piggery was originally an early Victorian piggery. We have had visitors who remember the pigs being kept there, slaughtered locally and butchered in the main house kitchen and scullery. Treguddick Manor itself is an undiscovered jewel - the best manor house in Cornwall not owned by the National Trust. We have entirely rebuilt the barn, maintaining memories of its original architecture but designed to be easy, warm, comfortable and accessible. WiFi, underfloor heating, built in appliances and great interior decor make staying on this ancient estate a real treat.
