About Mike and Cheryl Cran

We are Mike and Cheryl Cran who own the house. We lived in Edinburgh when we were first married but left over 20 years ago because of our jobs.

We love Edinburgh and fell in love with this house as soon as we saw the stunning views.

We use it whenever we can between short term lets and trust you will enjoy its beautiful location in the heart of the city and all that Edinburgh has to offer as much as we do every time we visit.

We live 400 miles away and so have an Edinburgh host, Angela.

Our profile photo was taken in July 2015, just after we moved into the house and staying in Edinburgh while supporting our daughter playing Lacrosse for Scotland in the Under 19s Lacrosse World Championships.

Mike and Cheryl Cran purchased this house in 2015

Why Mike and Cheryl Cran chose Edinburgh and Lothians

The views from a townhouse set in the city are stunning - virtually rural - and yet you are only 6-7 bus stops or a 15 minute walk from the city centre and all that Edinburgh has to offer as a capital city.

What makes this house unique

A small south facing garden with Holyrood Park over the garden wall provides stunning views, an excellent walking / exercise area and without the normal city noise.

The efficiency of a modern house providing warmth and efficient showers with copious hot water.

A garage and second parking space are invaluable in a capital city centre property.

All that a capital city centre offers close at hand but with the benefit of a near "rural" setting.

Great location and comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

The accommodations and location of this home were everything that we needed for our group of 7 adults. The furnishings and beds were top-notch and very comfortable and it is within walking distance of everything along the Royal Mile and right next to the wonderful Holyrood Park. The owner, Mike, was easy to work with and provided good communication. We had an excellent time and only wished we could have stayed longer!

Wonderful view and location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in Edinburgh. The home had everything you might need and was very comfortable. It was also within walking distance to the Palace of Holyroodhouse which was very convenient to tour the palace and then catch the hop on hop off busses. We would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your trip to Edinburgh, were comfortable in our house and found everything in it you needed for your stay. Hopefully catching the Hop 0n-Off bus at The Palace of Holyroodhouse saved you walking up and down too many hills as you toured the city! We hope you will stay with us again when you next visit Edinburgh.

Nice property, difficult owners

  • 2 of 5

This property is well-maintained and has great access to Arthur's Seat and the City Centre. However, I would advise choosing somewhere else to stay on account of the difficulty of the owners. Our group of women were polite and took good care of the accommodation. However, I had occasion to ask for clarification regarding whether some baby equipment was included in the house. It was a simple, direct question and was met by a very curt and seemingly annoyed answer. And when I mistakenly took a front door key with me (for which I apologized and posted back to the owner immediately), the tone from the owner was very curt and unpleasant. And, in the end, the owner submitted a review to HomeAway that would lead owners to shy away from renting to ME. Ridiculous. These are people who should not rent out property: if you cannot deal in a pleasant way with the kind of incidentals that are bound to happen with rentals, don't let out your property!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and we are pleased you found the house well located and suitable for your stay. Since renting out the house we have had 67 guest parties stay with a further 28 bookings taken which now include repeat bookings. Apart from a 4.5* review in our early days we have been delighted that all other reviews have been 5* and guests have specifically commented on how well we have dealt with their queries etc. Unfortunately one cannot win them all. I should not have allowed the manner of your changing demands and the time it took for you to return the key (7 days) to have frustrated me for which I apologize but a missing front door key renders the house insecure. I also apologize that we were not able to offer an on demand concierge service.

Impressive house, awesome views, great location, amenities first class as was cleanliness

  • 5 of 5

Stayed as base for daughters wedding. 3 beautiful double rooms with ensuite, one single room with use of bathroom. Beautifully decorated rooms. Master bedroom was very large perfect for dressing the bride. The views from the lounge and master bedroom out to Arthur's Seat are amazing. Kitchen very well appointed, it had everything! Garage big enough for a medium sized car. Dining room seated 8 comfortably. Garden was beautiful ideal for sitting out and admiring the view and also for our small dog. Very large top floor with sofas and TV. 2 minute walk to beautiful open green space from which you can walk up to Arthur's Seat, grassed area backs onto Hollyrood. Beautifully clean modern house. Would highly recommend this property. Mike the owner answered our queries before our stay promptly, great service. The bottle of champagne left to start our celebrations was a perfect touch - thank you! We didn't want to leave. I would highly recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your very comprehensive and kind review. I find it hard to believe it was February last year you made your initial tentative enquiry as to the suitability of the house for a base for your daughter's wedding. Seventeen months on we are delighted the house suited everything you wanted of your stay from bridal preparation, garage and car parking, dinner for eight, the garden to unwind in, dog suitability and presumably a climb up Arthur's Seat! How did you have time to fit in a wedding as well? We hope you will stay with us again when you return to Edinburgh for some time to yourselves and take full advantage of all the city offers.

Great location, great view. Within walking distance of the Royal Mile. neatly kept & furnished

  • 5 of 5

We arrived and everything was in order. Everything works, great garage. The nicest view, didn't bother with the bus since the park behind the property takes you right to the Royal Mile and Uber works. Owner ,Mike, is very responsive. I recommend the place without reservations. I will stay there again if I visit Scotland again

Super house and location

  • 5 of 5

The photos of this house do not do it justice. The top on for reading and tv with the views was beautiful. The master bedroom was stand out from the others but all were comfortable and clean. Good showers and plenty of hot water throughout. And if you do stay in to cook, there are ample utensils etc in the kitchen.

In all a superb well equipped property in a great location for walking and shopping.
