Special Retreat in Le Marche
Can't say enough positive things about Agriturismo Amargi. Chiara & Marco were wonderful hosts. They helped us feel at home, assisted in planning day trips into Monti Sibillini, set up reservations for meals at local restaurants, invited us to Smerillo's annual chestnut festival, invited us join them for apperitivos, and even pumped up our low tire! The apartment is simply but beautifully appointed and very comfortable. We stayed two weeks, but could have stayed a month. Though it seems remote in location, access to local and regional towns is easy with a car (which you will need if coming here) and local roads are walkable (though steep) allowing daily visits to Smerillo and Montefalcone. You will get in shape here and it's good preparation for the trails in Monti Sibillini, which are also easily reached by car. The beds are the best beds we've ever slept on in a rental and Amargi is one of the quietest places we've ever stayed. All you hear is the twitter of birds, the wind through the trees, the bells of their goats, the call of an owl. And that view...OMG! Phenomenal, just phenomenal. One of the best places we've ever stayed.

Amargi is a wonderful experience in Smerllo
We had a great stay in this wonderful location. The views are breathtaking and the location close to Smerillo and other hilltop villages is ideal. The hosts Marco and Kara could not have been more helpful. They were always available to help us out with the usual travel questions, routes to places, best shopping, local landmarks, restaurants etc. But more than that they had a sincerity and disposition that made us feel truly welcomed. The farm itself is perfect. The rooms are clean and modern, the bathrooms stylish with great showers. We used the laundry a lot. Outside, there are some large fields of lavender, wandering rooster and hens, apple orchards and a rabbit that may well be the luckiest rabbit in Italy. This rabbit has his own little room along a walkway that he goes in and out of all day long. He hunkers down in the night to avoid any dangers and during the day wanders the property eating acorns and grass. We purchased some of the honey from the apiary and lavender products and they made great gifts. If any herbs were needed for meals Kara would quickly provide a large bag of basil or thyme. When it came to photography the lovely poppy fields and flowers along the brick walls were ideal. The shots of the scenery from the farmhouse were some of the best we took in Italy. Yes, Smerillo is a little off the beaten path, a little harder to get to and some up and down hill driving. But the beauty of the scenery, the lack of tourists, the hospitality of the people make it worth the effort. The tranquility and sound sleeps are truly appreciated. We understand that Marco and Kara are just starting out with this venture. They have put a lot of resources and love into this property and we sincerely hope that it succeeds. We cannot recommend this experience more highly. It was the highlight of our trip around Italy. We look forward to returning next year !

Agriturismo grazioso e accogliente

About the host

Hosted by Marco Mani

Host profile image
We are Marco and Chiara, after worked abroad with the international cooperation in South America, we decided to change our life and, looking for a more natural and sustainable way of living, we decided to become farmers. In our organic farm we work today as beekeepers, besides we cultivate medicinal plants and apple trees.

Why they chose this property

When we arrive in this place we loved it from the first time, the landscape is really amazing and we decided soon to live here enjoying the quiet of this fascinating nature. Besides our farm activities we decided to restore the old building and to dedicate part of it to hospitality, also as a way to know people and to share this enchanting place.

What makes this property unique

This place is perfect for mountains lovers because of the wonderfull views of the mountains but also because it is an excellent location from wich to make excursions into the Sibillini National Park.
At the same time in only one hour by car you can reach the Adriatic beachs, the cities of Ascoli, Macerata and Fermo, the Roman archeological site of Urbs Salvia or many medieval villages surrounded by the green hills of Le Marche.
