About the property

Quercy Stone Farmhouse .

Welcome to our little corner of Paradise where our self-catering accommodation is set just outside the picturesque village remarquable of Laroque Timbaut, nestling in a beautiful secluded valley with panoramic views across woodland and sunflower fields as far as Agen. L’Hérité, a former fruit farm is now run as a family business and we are here to make sure that you have a great holiday and enjoy this part of France as much as we do. Our gite is fully equipped to a high specification for self-contained holidays. Here you can relax, unwind, forget the stresses and strains of modern life and enjoy the peaceful French countryside. You could help feed the goat or try some home grown apples, pears, peaches and of course the world famous Pruneaux d’Agen. For the more active holiday-maker there is an abundance of activities on offer including walking, cycling, golf, horse riding and canoeing, as well as nearby theme parks and treetop adventure centre. A three minute drive away from your doorstep, Laroque Timbaut has amongst other facilities a market on Thursday mornings, a boulangerie, boucherie, pharmacie, post office, bank, small supermarket and sports facilities as well as some excellent restaurants and cafés.

Ideally situated for visiting some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, notably Pujols, Montjoi, Beauville, Monflanquin you are assured of a warm welcome to this as yet relatively undiscovered part of France. All of this and yet only a 15 minute drive from the vibrant University town of Agen. We are looking forward to your visit.

About Sandra & Bob Reid

Sandra and Bob moved here with their son J.C. in July 2015 after spending many years scouring France for just the right place. Sandra, a former Languages teacher, and Bob, formerly the owner of an agricultural business are both originally from Scotland but love the more relaxed French way of life. Their little boy is on hand for games of table tennis or badminton and instruction in goat feeding. We have two cats and a big, soft Golden Retriever called Churro.

Sandra & Bob Reid purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Sandra & Bob Reid chose Lot-et-Garonne

This property has everything. The pool and terrace are ideal for reading, relaxing or getting that suntan. It is very private, without being totally isolated and yet only minutes from a lively little village with all the services anyone could need. The local people are very friendly and very proud of their area, keeping up local traditions and customs. The Summer markets and fêtes are lots of fun and well worth visiting. We provide all linens and towels including pool towels. These are changed weekly. We make no charge for electricity or gas. Use of barbecue and games equipment is also free. Your welcome pack will include all the basic essentials plus a few local delicacies to get you started. Should you be arriving late and wish us to prepare a meal, we can usually cope with a bit of notice.

What makes this cottage unique

You will be staying in the 19th century Wine Maker's cottage which sleeps up to four. We also have a separate self-contained modern studio apartment for up to two people attached to the owner's house. This has it's own entrance and parking and can be rented together with the studio for larger parties. There is also a 17th Century Barn which still houses the wine press and Pruneaux Clés - frames for drying the plums which made the fortune of previous owners. We make our own wine, and jams but on a very small scale. You will enjoy the heated pool and terrace which has an almost tropical feel with its banana palms and shade trees as well as the comfortable loungers. This is an ideal place to dine but there are several other terraces you may prefer. There are twelve acres of woods and paddocks for walks and wildlife spotting. We have a resident buzzard, a kestrel has been nesting here for some thirteen years and you'll see chevreuil- roe deer and maybe even a wild boar. The property is ideally located for those who want to explore the area and enjoy the many sites of historic interest or of outstanding natural beauty.

Amazing gite and amazing hosts!

  • 5 of 5

The gîte is amazing and has everything you could possibly ever need. Sandra and Bob were the most welcoming and generous hosts you could ever ask for and we immediately felt it was a home away from home. Swimming pool was great, we had amazing weather and the surrounding area was stunning. There was a lot to do in the garden, which includes a vineyard and many fruit trees (table tennis, table football, badminton, football, snooker and a plethora of pool toys!) We were never bored! We had a very relaxing, tasted some very delicious wine and will definitely be back!

Idyllic retreat, ideal for couples seeking privacy and a taste of rural France

  • 5 of 5

Our stay with Sandra and Bob delivered on every front. The gite was spacious and the housekeeping exemplary, the pool was much larger than we expected and the beautiful grounds offered plenty of interest - full of fruit trees and a rich abundance of wildlife. Sandra and Bob, and their son J.C., could not have given us a warmer welcome, and even went to the lengths of putting on a delicious barbecue for us. There were multiple places to sit and relax and enjoy the sunshine. The gite offers an incredible level of seclusion and privacy, yet is only a few minutes drive away from the bastide town Laroque Timbaut, which has everything you need for your stay including a boulangerie and a Carrefour supermarket.

A totally relaxing stay in lovely tranquil surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived, Sandra and Bob made us feel very welcome but at the same time, they gave us privacy, especially whilst we were around the pool. This was a concern for us when we initially booked as the pool is very close but behind their property but we needen't have worried.

The grounds of the property are lovely to stroll around with great views across the valley and there are lovely Bastille towns close by to visit, best done when the locals hold their evening markets.

All in all a very relaxing stay and we have no problem highly recommending Wine Maker's Cottage to anyone.

Charming, tranquil location for a restful holiday

  • 5 of 5

Very quiet setting and with lots of nice facilities on site - pool, badminton court in a barn, lovely walks from the door. Plus very helpful owners and a lot to do in the local area: vineyards, castles, old towns etc. Really recommend it.

Beautiful, tranquil and very very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Even in November, we had a wonderful stay in this lovely cottage. The weather was sunny, warm and bright, after a misty start (in November - so it must be amazing in Summer)! and the location peaceful and scenic as well as being in easy reach of shops etc. Also in striking distance were fascinating medieval villages,a beautiful lake, good restaurants and gorgeous countryside. I wish we had had longer to explore the area! The cottage was really clean and well maintained, with very comfortable beds and all amenities. Sandra and Bob are so nice and friendly, and they made us feel so welcome whilst at the same time giving us space to relax and enjoy the beautiful setting. Very highly recommended!
