About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom country mansion with panoramic sea views

This DESIGN COUNTRY MANSION part of DOROVINIS COUNTRY HOUSES, has the personal air and character of a leisure home of the Cretan countryside, capturing panoramic views to the sea.

Artistically restored and furnished with stylish furniture, it combines the lost qualities of traditional home architecture with modern facilities and luxury.

The house is laid out on 185 m2 in two levels. On the ground level It is arranged around a 60m2 courtyard, that captures panoramic sea views, and comprises 2 double bedrooms, one dining room with 2 sofa/single beds, a living room with seating corner around the Venetian style fireplace and folding dining table (seats 6 persons if opened) , two bathrooms and a large kitchen fully equipped with modern apparatus and utensils. On the upper level there is the third double bedroom that opens on a lovely porch and which gives access to the grand top terrace of 100 m2 with panoramic views to the sea. This upper terrace is reached also externally from the courtyard, by a stone stair. The house can accommodate from 6 to 8 persons (3 double bedrooms and 2 sofa/single beds in dinning room). It is furnished with original neoclassical furniture, art objects and paintings of contemporary Greek artists.

All rooms open either to the courtyard or the terrace, capturing breathtaking views to the sea.

It can function as a spacious, unique house for a demanding family or for two families or friendly couples, as the bedrooms accompanied by own bathrooms are laid at the ends of the house with communal areas in between.

About The Owner

IOANNA DOROVINIS is an architect (M.Sc. Columbia Un. NYC), specialist in Conservation of Historic Buildings and Settlements (M.A. York Un.UK), with a PhD in History of Architecture (Athens Polytechnique Un.).

The village of Anatoli in Ierapetra Crete was the last stop in her long journey for the safeguard of Cretan Architectural Heritage, for which she has devoted the last 20 years of her career by the Ministry of Planning, Department of Traditional Settlements.

When she first visited the village, in 1997, in an autumn rainy day, the ruins and the landscape around exerted such strong influence to her that she decided to buy a house in Crete, the PASIPHAE (after the queen of Minoa), and convert it into a family resort. Another house, the KALLIROHE (from the water nymph) followed soon, and as the merits, beauty and diversity of local architectural patterns were revealed, more ruined houses were added to the company’s property, while other owners were inspired to save and restore their houses

She is the writer of many articles concerning architectural heritage, while her doctorate thesis will soon be published under the title “The Domestic Architecture of Mytilene, Lesbos island, (1830-1920) Historical background-City Planning-Architecture”.

The Owner purchased this house in 2000

Why The Owner chose Lassithi

It is a big house, with severe exterior that opens though to a lovely courtyard with breathtaking views to the sea. It has a typical Greek village agglomeration, that has changed very little over the ages, with rooms around the courtyard that is the center of life.
