Stunning house in beautiful countryside with beautiful gardens and pool

We holidayed here for a week in late July. The owners could not have been more helpful and the house is really lovely. Amazingly well equipped home with beautiful mature gardens filled with lavender. We were all adults and found it utterly relaxing but there is plenty to do for more active people and children. Stunning walks and villages, markets and lovely places to eat although eating dinner in the garden in the evening was perfect. Thanks so much Pete and Kate

Location

My wife and I were looking for a place to buy for 2 years in the Dordogne - this property was about the 50th we saw and the moment I drove into the drive we knew it was the one we would buy. The house itself is an charming old farmhouse from the late 18th century. But it's in the most idyllic setting, perched on the top of rolling hills surround by 11 acres of garden, forest and fields. It features a massive 10 metre long kitchen, with a high high ceiling. The living room is equally large, again about 10 metres long and about 7m wide, featuring imposing oak ceiling beams and doors to the outside on both sides. One half of the rook is is dominated by the massive stone fireplace, brilliant for fires in winter, surrounded by three sofas spread in a giant 'C' shape. The other half of the room features a baby grand piano, ideal for musicians that wish to keep their practice up whilst on holiday. The stairs to the upstairs lead from here, to the dormitory featuring 6 single beds - ideal for kids. The master bedroom is on the far side as is the corridor, beautifully tiled with authentic french 'tomettes', rustic hexagonal terracotta tiles. We've since installed a brand new 10x5 m swimming pool. It has a rolling electric security cover (open and shut by a security key) rather than a fence, so as not to spoil the amazing views down the valley. We've also a field that originally had been earmarked for a cricket pitch but currently plays better for football!

Brilliant location - heart of the countryside but close to everything that the Dordgone region has to offer. Perigueux only 30 minutes away. The Dordogne river 20 minutes to the south. A beautiful bathing and fishing lake (Lac Neufont) only 10 minutes away. A brand new swimming pool, 10m x 5m with massive patio - overlooking the valley below. Biking, countryside walks, beautiful villages with great restaurants close by - Le P'tite Factory in St Alvere one of our favourites 10 minute drive away, or the Ferme Auberge in Tremolat (views over the river are spectacular) where 18 euros will buy you 5 courses of home grown food, washed down with unlimited Bergerac wine - a gourmets delight! For mushroom pickers, the area abounds with fungi from late summer onwards - be sure you know what you are doing though!
