Beautiful upgraded two bedroom cottage on the base of the South Downs

The property is situated on the base of the South Downs. It has two large bedroom sleeping four people in total. The master bedroom has plenty of hanging and storage space and has fixed double bed with bedside cabinets, while the 2nd bedroom has a zip and link bed so can be set up as a double or two singles.

There is a large open plan living space with kitchen, dinning and lounge area which we believe has a wow factor. It is fuelled by a log burner (as well as having central heating). Outside there is a picturesque pond which you can sit by as well as a courtyard area for outside dinning. The property is has recently been modernised to a high specification, there is Sky TV, a Bluetooth music player, dvds, games and books available if you decide to stay in.

The property has a garage and also has additional room for parking.

About the Owner

We are a family of four, Giles (old), Katie (not as old), Iona (8 months) and Adam (four) who have recently moved to Eastbourne having visited for many years. We love the cottage and often decamp there when it is not booked as it is very peaceful and relaxing and convenient for local walks and cycling, plus good pubs for Sunday lunches.

Katie and my passion is sea swimming so if you visit the beach at Eastbourne you are likely to see us bobbing around out at sea irrespective of the weather. We have are an unusual couple as we have both swum the English Channel.

Adam goes to school locally and like to help with "check ins" as it gives him an excuse to come and feed the fish.

Between us we have good insider knowledge so can point you to he best places to eat, rest and play.

lovely cottage under the downs

Well laid out cottage nestling right under the downs. Very comfortable with two large bedrooms, a large bathroom and a lovely sitting room and kitchen area. There was everything we needed. We were particularly attracted by the wood burner and that made it very cosy. Giles was very welcoming and explained everything and was very easy to deal with. There is a lovely pond in the front and sitting area at the back. We were thrilled to be able to walk up on to the downs directly from the house. I'd recommend this cottage and hope to come again.

The Forge Eatsbourne.

The Forge is probable the most idyllic place we have stayed. Location is fabulous, a number of lovely walks to nearby villages with pubs for lunch/dinner. The Pond, Garden and accommodation are beyond reproach. It's a place we want to visit again.

Beautiful property in great location

I don't know about others, but I normally find that the pictures of a property up for rent are taken from such an angle that they give a false impression of a property. Not this one! We were delighted that the photos were entirely accurate and it was a lovely property in a gorgeous setting.

The property is located at the edge of Wannock - which is four miles from the centre of Eastbourne. It is in a private close of a few similar properties, and, as will be seen from the photos the front looks over a pond with a duck house. Ducks were spotted during the stay. Facilities for a BBQ were also present - plus a natural fire if you wanted with wood provided!

The description was entirely accurate regarding accommodation, facilities etc and it was clean. There was Sky TV plus a selection of DVDs and games. Do be aware that the garage is a little small so whilst we managed to get an Auris in it, the Prius was 6 inches too long. That being said there was space alongside the garage so no problem there. Wifi was free.

There are pubs nearby - plus within a mile or so a Tesco express and M & S food outlet - and in Eastbourne all the usual facilities plus beach. The cuckoo trail for cycling was nearby - and easy access to Beachy Head.

The only thing that prevented us giving 5 stars was a few minor items of detail which should easily be addressed. These include:

• Freezer totally frost bound

• Shower didn't have a door

• Mirror in first bedroom was lent against the wall

• 1 inch gap under first bedroom door meant sounds from kitchen easily reached bedroom

• No wardrobes in bedroom 2 (although lots in bedroom 1!)

Overall property recommended.

Great cottage for a country break

This is lovely little cottage in a quiet location on the edge of the South Downs. Great for a cycle on the Cuckoo trail, a trip to the beautiful Seven Sisters country park, or the beach at Eastbourne.

Cottage has a lovely living room and two good sized bedroom but the star is the stunning garden, perfect for a BBQ in the sunshine!

EARLY WINTER VISIT AT WANNOCK:

My girlfriend and I stayed in the cottage because, as walkers, it is a short walk from a spur of the South Downs Way. The flint-stone cottage was delightful; warm, and cosy with all the amenities that we required for our stay.

Calmness and bliss

We were surprised how beautiful and spacious the cottage was and had a lovely weekend there. It was convivial and all the fixtures and furniture were of high standard. It was easy to drive into Eastbourne and enjoy the lovely restaurants there as well as do some amazing walks in the Southdowns - the path started just a few metres from the cottage. I would highly recommend this cottage! We will definitely be back...

We love this property due to the location. For us it has the perfect mix of being rural peaceful, rural and so close to the South Downs and country pubs, whilst only being a mile walk from Polegate railway station with its shops good links to London and four miles to Eastbourne with its beach and numerous amenities. It is also very well maintained with everything of a high specification so you do feel spoilt when staying there. It also has log burner which manages to heat the whole cottage in the winter.

The property is only a stones throw away from the South Downs, the National Park, where there are a variety of scenic walks or cycles that you can take from your doorstep. With the famous Beachy Head and Cuckmere Haven eight miles away.

It lies on the outskirts of Wannock a quiet village and only a mile from Polegate which has a railway station, good shops and takeaways.

There are many country pubs nearby and picturesque villages to visit.

It is only four miles from Eastbourne with its pier, miles of beaches, marina, theatres, cinemas, shops, restaurants, pubs and numerous activities for children.

London is 90 minutes away by car and less by train making day trips easily accessible and Brighton is within 25 minutes away.
