Quiet, bijou cottage

Updated: 03-Oct-2016

A pretty, traditional cottage adjacent to a private pool set in shady secluded garden surrounded by acres of olive groves, almond blossom and beautiful walks. The accommodation comprises a delightful stone-built characterful studio cottage with private shower en-suite facilities. The charming bedroom has a king sized bed and a semi-enclosed alfresco kitchen area with barbecue, sink, fridge, kettle and coffee machine. There is no indoor sitting room however we have provided two traditional Monchique chairs in your room. There are various chairs in the south facing garden with views of the mature walnut tree and hundred year old vine. For those seeking peace and quiet in a childfree rural retreat, this property will provide a haven of tranquility. For those times when you are tired of sunning yourself by the pool on the sunbeds, you might wish to relax further in one of the hammocks strung from the walnut tree and enjoy some beautiful dappled shade.

About the Owner

We moved here from the South of England, our children having flown the nest, in order to enjoy the warm sunshine and the relaxed way of life. The price of wine was a help too! We enjoy having new faces around and most of our visitors end up as friends after only a couple of days.

Great 'Bijou' Rental.

  • 5 of 5

Difficult to know where to start. We rented this property the last two weeks of September. Surprisingly what we read on Owners Direct site was what we got plus more.

The cottage itself has a bedroom with a 'kingsize' bed, shower room/toilet and hand basin with a good supply of hot water. The kitchen area did at first from the site description give some doubts but the large gas barbecue was big enough I felt for me to, if required cook a traditional Sunday lunch. The area for eating was within the kitchen and did allow for 'alfresco' dining (how else would you eat in Portugal). The pool area is large and Graeham checks this every day and does what he needs to do to ensure it meets his and Jane exacting standards. There are some great places to walk and the two dogs 'Megan and Charlie' just love you to take them on their leads and will walk as far as you wish to go.

The cottage is part of their home complex and is or is not as private as you would wish it to be. Whilst there we became part of their family group and included into their friendship groups (optional, not mandatory as Jane stressed or more than one occasion ) but the overall hospitality was excellent and both have a great sense of humour.

We joined Jane on her Sunday morning visit to her church and joined both Graeham and Jane on a completely new experience for us which we were told was quite common on the Algarve that being a 'hash'. This comprised of a two hour walk, a treasure hunt and a good drinking session, before, during and after accompanied with and excellent meal and fund raising raffle, all for five euro's each. The ex-pats we met (some 50 or so) were also very welcoming and enhanced our visit. The whole experience at Poco Novo was absolutely great.

When writing a review like this the judgement of the whole experience is was it good enough to want us to return? The answer to this is yes and look forward to going back again soon. Looking at the bookings for next year we may need to do that sooner rather than later if we want to get the weeks we need.

A piece of Portuguese paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from one of the nicest holidays we've ever had. The cottage was comfy and quirky and we loved it!

The location is ideal, being less than half an hour from the airport and allowing easy access to both the east and west of the Algarve. It's in a very rural area, but doesn't feel remote- Loule and Sao Bras are close by and there's a large supermarket about 5 minutes drive away.

The cottage itself provided everything we needed. The well equipped outside kitchen was brilliant and consisted of a full size fridge, microwave, gas bbq and separate gas ring. There was also a table and chairs and all the crockery and cutlery you need for two people. The sole use of the swimming pool made our holiday!

Jane and Graeham were lovely and couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our chats with them but also appreciated the privacy they afforded us. And of course we have to give a mention to the two lovely dogs Megan and Charlie!

If you're looking for a quiet retreat in a great location you must book- but not when we want to go again!

The property exceeded all our expectations.

  • 5 of 5

The property was everything we wanted and more, it was very peaceful and beautiful, superbly situated between Sao Bras and Loule so the location for us was perfect. The hosts Jane and Graham are wonderful people being there if you required anything but never invading our privacy, we had a problem with our car hire whilst we were there and they helped us deal with it. We wouldn't hesitate to go back or recommend to anyone. Karen and Bill Scotland.

Exactly What It Says on the Tin!

If you have read the Overview correctly, then you will not be disappointed. A quiet, bijou, tranquil and private place to holiday, and in our case completely de-stress from the busy life we both lead.

Owners Jane and Graeham are very welcoming and could not have been more helpful throughout our two week stay.

We hired and visited by car (which you will definately need to have), several places: Lagos, Vilamoura, Albufeira, Tavira and Faro to name but a few. Loule' the nearby town is very nice with easy parking and a good Saturday market if you fancy a visit.

There are also several Supermarkets nearby to stock up on any Provisions should you want/need them.

We would have liked to have taken more walks, but in July at an average temperature of 35 degrees daily, that was not possible. We chilled by the pool taking advantage of the wealth of reading material, and between my husband and I we read almost 8 books! Therefore, we felt having done about 700km we had the balance just about right - relaxing and exploring some of The Algarve.

The cottage is very comfortable and has all you may need. The owner's two dogs, Charlie & Meg are delightful and came to greet us most mornings. Such sweet, placid pets and nice to have around.

We would definately return, but perhaps during the cooler months and enjoy some walking!

We wish Jane and Graeham all the very best, and perhaps we will meet again one day! Missing you both already!

Peaceful haven

A lovely peaceful week in your delightful quirky cottage . The pool was an added bonus and provided a lovely area where we could swim read and just chill out . The cottage is located in a rural area close to Loule and a car really allows you to appreciate rural Portugal way from the coastal areas . Charlie and Megan the resident canines were a pleasure . We wish Jane and Graham continued success . We will be back after the most relaxing holiday with super hosts . Thank you

From the Owner

We came here because the area is very quiet although only a few kilometres from the bustling market town of Loule. One of the main advantages of living here is that it is possible to find a new place to eat out well every day at very reasonable prices.
