About Jane Caulfield-Kerney

We moved here from the South of England, our children having flown the nest, in order to enjoy the warm sunshine and the relaxed way of life. The price of wine was a help too! We enjoy having new faces around and most of our visitors end up as friends after only a couple of days.

Jane Caulfield-Kerney purchased this cottage in 1993

Why Jane Caulfield-Kerney chose Loule

We came here because the area is very quiet although only a few kilometres from the bustling market town of Loule. One of the main advantages of living here is that it is possible to find a new place to eat out well every day at very reasonable prices.

Restful and restorative

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed for 10 nights in this charming cottage. We were met by Jane and her husband Graeham and were immediately welcomed with warmth and caring which lasted throughout our stay. The cottage had everything we needed and the sole use of the beautiful pool was wonderful. There is so much to see and do in the Algarve and we enjoyed visiting the quieter tourist areas within the region. Tavira is a pretty town and for a quiet and beautiful beach we liked Manta Rota. Alcoutin, which borders Spain, has a small river beach and a castle. Driving back through the hills was great with hardly any traffic. Alte is lovely and so is Loule, just 10 minutes away with a wonderful Saturday market. We saw so many fabulous sights but what really made our break were Jane and Graeham. You couldn't wish for nicer hosts, who also invited us to join them for a few social events. Their two dogs, Charlie and Megan are pretty special too!

Hidden Gem!

  • 5 of 5

Delightful little cottage, very comfortable and very well equipped for two. everything we needed This property is close the family house though hidden away and set in a charming garden. Sadly not the right time of year to use the pool, but lovely walks.

We had a very warm welcome from our hosts Jane and Graham who made our stay so enjoyable. Really recommend.

Great 'Bijou' Rental.

  • 5 of 5

Difficult to know where to start. We rented this property the last two weeks of September. Surprisingly what we read on Owners Direct site was what we got plus more.

The cottage itself has a bedroom with a 'kingsize' bed, shower room/toilet and hand basin with a good supply of hot water. The kitchen area did at first from the site description give some doubts but the large gas barbecue was big enough I felt for me to, if required cook a traditional Sunday lunch. The area for eating was within the kitchen and did allow for 'alfresco' dining (how else would you eat in Portugal). The pool area is large and Graeham checks this every day and does what he needs to do to ensure it meets his and Jane exacting standards. There are some great places to walk and the two dogs 'Megan and Charlie' just love you to take them on their leads and will walk as far as you wish to go.

The cottage is part of their home complex and is or is not as private as you would wish it to be. Whilst there we became part of their family group and included into their friendship groups (optional, not mandatory as Jane stressed or more than one occasion ) but the overall hospitality was excellent and both have a great sense of humour.

We joined Jane on her Sunday morning visit to her church and joined both Graeham and Jane on a completely new experience for us which we were told was quite common on the Algarve that being a 'hash'. This comprised of a two hour walk, a treasure hunt and a good drinking session, before, during and after accompanied with and excellent meal and fund raising raffle, all for five euro's each. The ex-pats we met (some 50 or so) were also very welcoming and enhanced our visit. The whole experience at Poco Novo was absolutely great.

When writing a review like this the judgement of the whole experience is was it good enough to want us to return? The answer to this is yes and look forward to going back again soon. Looking at the bookings for next year we may need to do that sooner rather than later if we want to get the weeks we need.

A piece of Portuguese paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from one of the nicest holidays we've ever had. The cottage was comfy and quirky and we loved it!

The location is ideal, being less than half an hour from the airport and allowing easy access to both the east and west of the Algarve. It's in a very rural area, but doesn't feel remote- Loule and Sao Bras are close by and there's a large supermarket about 5 minutes drive away.

The cottage itself provided everything we needed. The well equipped outside kitchen was brilliant and consisted of a full size fridge, microwave, gas bbq and separate gas ring. There was also a table and chairs and all the crockery and cutlery you need for two people. The sole use of the swimming pool made our holiday!

Jane and Graeham were lovely and couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our chats with them but also appreciated the privacy they afforded us. And of course we have to give a mention to the two lovely dogs Megan and Charlie!

If you're looking for a quiet retreat in a great location you must book- but not when we want to go again!
