EXMOOR

Exmoor is a unique place shaped by people and nature over thousands of years and is recognized as one of the UK's finest landscapes. Large areas of open moorland provide a sense of remoteness and tranquillity rare in southern Britain. Spectacular coastal views, deep wooded valleys, high sea cliffs and fast flowing streams all combine to form a rich and distinct mosaic.

The coastline within the National Park stretches for (59 km) 37 miles. It is outstanding for both its scenery and its wildlife and was one of the prime reasons for the designation of Exmoor as a National Park. Exmoor has the highest coastline in England and Wales with coastal hills rising to 433m (1421ft) at Culbone Hill. The highest sheer cliff is 244m (800ft) on Great Hangman, which is the highest sea cliff in England and Wales.

A special feature of the coast is that it is remarkably sheltered. This allows for the unusual development of coastal woods. The woods between The Foreland and Porlock represent the longest stretch of coastal woodland in England and Wales.

The inaccessibility of much of the woodland leaves it remarkably close to natural vegetation for Britain and it contains diverse plant life, including whitebeam varieties unique to Exmoor. The Exmoor coast must also rank amongst the most unspoilt and best protected stretches of coastline in England and Wales.

At Combe Martin, Lynmouth and Porlock Weir there are small harbours that used to be busy with coastal trade. Now sailing and fishing for pleasure are their mainstay.

We can pick you up from any airport or town with a extra charge we agree on.

We can have a rental car or mpv waiting for you at the log cabin at a very good rate for your stay if you don't have transport . All we need is a copy of your driving licence

Amazing family weekend away

  • 5 of 5

We went away for the weekend for my father’s 70th. 6 adults, 2 toddlers and a baby. The lodge was very spacious and comfortable. We had a great weekend and would most definitely return. I would say the lodge is in need of a few repairs (tap in kitchen is wobbly, kick board under the dishwasher falls down everytime you open the dishwasher door, light switch in one of the bedroom is broken). If these little things could be put right it would go from being good to excellent. It wouldn’t put us staying again though. Thank you very much. Beautiful wooden lodge and see you again soon.

We had a great stay in Devon! The house was surrounded by beautiful fields and the host was helpful

  • 4 of 5

The property was lovely and fully lived up to the pictures. All four bed rooms were cosy and nicely decorated and the hot tub was fantastic! The kitchen was big enough to cook meals in and the dining table was great for a big group.
