Overview

About the property

Luxury & seclusion in a beautiful and traditional house

The cider tower was built as part of a steading in the early 18th century and was originally a windmill used for pressing apples from the local orchard. The whole steading fell into disrepair long ago but was gradually restored in 2002 by the previous owners. The cider tower is a grade b listed building, the renovation winning a prestigious award from the galloway preservation society for the best restoration and preservation project of that year.

Today the cider tower provides very comfortable and peaceful luxury accommodation for two. It is set in beautiful countryside yet only 10 minutes walk into town.

The master bedroom on the ground floor has a magnificent four poster bed with bathroom and utility across the hall.

Upstairs is the fully equipped kitchen and dining area.

Three further steps take you up to the cosy sitting room with minstrels gallery above.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Cider Tower is one of the very best places we have holidayed in and as previous guests have already said it all, we just say thank you for providing such a well equipped, comfortable and clean base for us to happily return to after some wonderful days out and about walking, bird watching and just generally enjoying this lovely corner of Scotland

We will be back.

Unique wonderful place with magnificent views

Our second time and we love this beautiful extraordinary self-catering accommodation. Very friendly helpful owners who live nearby, only half a mile from the centre an elevated position with outstanding views of the estuary.

Had a lovely 3 night stay in the Cider Tower. Beautiful place full of character and well located.

We would recommend the Cider Tower to anybody. Location is good. Scenery is beautiful. The building is full of character. Owners are lovely too. We will definitely be going back. Kirkcudbright is a quiet peaceful town and a good location for exploring Dumfries & Galloway.

Tranquil spot and gorgeous house

  • 5 of 5

The Cider Tower sits in a small enclave of cottages, about an easily walkable mile from the pretty town of Kirkudbright. The ground floor has the wash room, bathroom and four-poster bedroom and then up to the well equipped kitchen and lounge, which features a spiral staircase to a small gallery as well as Freeview TV. The cottage is warm, cosy and has lovely views across the fields and during our stay, the only sound we could here was the local owls. Beware technology geeks as no Wifi.

Fabulous weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our weekend at the Cider House was a wonderful experience. The accommodation is excellent and of a high standard. On arrival there was a welcome tea tray with cake. Milk, butter, tea, coffee was provided. There is also a supply of dishwasher tablets etc. The attention to detail make a big difference. Owners Alan and Patsy popped round to make sure we had all we needed and to recommend places of interest to visit. Weather was wild, wet and windy but we still had a great weekend. Thanks
