Overview

About the property

Luxury & seclusion in a beautiful and traditional house

The cider tower was built as part of a steading in the early 18th century and was originally a windmill used for pressing apples from the local orchard. The whole steading fell into disrepair long ago but was gradually restored in 2002 by the previous owners. The cider tower is a grade b listed building, the renovation winning a prestigious award from the galloway preservation society for the best restoration and preservation project of that year.

Today the cider tower provides very comfortable and peaceful luxury accommodation for two. It is set in beautiful countryside yet only 10 minutes walk into town.

The master bedroom on the ground floor has a magnificent four poster bed with bathroom and utility across the hall.

Upstairs is the fully equipped kitchen and dining area.

Three further steps take you up to the cosy sitting room with minstrels gallery above.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Cider Tower is one of the very best places we have holidayed in and as previous guests have already said it all, we just say thank you for providing such a well equipped, comfortable and clean base for us to happily return to after some wonderful days out and about walking, bird watching and just generally enjoying this lovely corner of Scotland

We will be back.

Out and About

Galloway is known as “Scotland in miniature” and has something for everyone. The area is great for hill and coastal walking, fishing, golf and cycling. The ancient town of Kirkcudbright, a Royal Burgh since 1455, is historically very interesting and has a ruined castle, working harbour, museum and attractive High Street. There are also a number of independent shops and cafes. The town is known as “The Artist’s Town” having been home to EA Hornel, Jessie M King, EA Taylor and their friends in the last century. There are regular summer exhibitions and two permanent art galleries in the town. There is also a comprehensive programme of events throughout the spring and summer. (Link to Kirkcudbright summer festivities).

There are numerous gardens and places of interest within easy reach, including Threave and Logan Botanical Gardens.

You will find local information , maps and guides in The Tower to help you plan your stay. Or you may just want to sit outside on the patio with a glass of wine and admire the view!

Owner's Response: Really glad you both had such a lovely time here. I told the girls in the Co-op that you had written a nice review about them in our guest book - they were really chuffed!

Quirky, something different. A place you must experience

  • 5 of 5

After reading the reviews of the cider tower before our visit, all were great, except one that say the tower was dirty. I don't know what tower they where on about, but it certainly wasn't this one. The tower very clean and well looked after.

We stayed at the tower for a short honeymoon, an we were not disappointed. It was like home from home with the quirkiness.

Patsy and Allen made us welcomed with a bottle of Prosecco on arrival, which was a nice personal touch from them.

The scenery was amazing, and Kirkcudbright is a nice and friendly wee place. Nice pubs and restaurants.

A definate must for anyone who wants something different, and quirky with the personal touch from the owners.

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

The dilemma of providing a 5 star review due to the risk of the accommodation not being available when you want to go back! We have enjoyed many self catering holidays over the past 30 years and the Cider Tower is amongst the best. An unusual, quirky property in a beautiful location, the Cider Tower is furnished to a high standard and very well equipped. Thoroughly recommended and we will definitely be back.

An amazing honeymoon location

  • 5 of 5

A truly magical place... The tower was spotlessly clean and attention to detail was excellent. The four-poster bed was very comfortable, and my wife was very impressed with the fine linen and pillow cases.

This is simply the best self-catering accommodation we have ever stayed in, and makes us wonder if we should remain quiet and keep this gem to ourselves.

Highly recommended for a quiet stay in a wonderful location.

My only gripe...? We were not there long enough !

So thank you for making our honeymoon so magical

Davie and Linda
