Overview

About the property

Large 5-bedroom house with gardens, located close to Westward Ho! beach

Cornborough Coombe is a beautiful 5-bedroom house located close to the Westward Ho! beach and within easy reach of many of North Devon's attractions. The house along with its adjoining annex can comfortably accommodate up to 10 and is designed with families and large groups in mind.

At Cornborough relaxation and adventure go hand in hand. The spacious dog friendly house is described by many as an Enid Blyton house thanks to its charm and character, as well as the large gardens that surround it.

The main house has a large and spacious kitchen/dining room, which has been equipped to a high level. Within the kitchen is an electric range cooker, a microwave, a digital TV, two fridges, a freezer and a dishwasher. There is also a big pine table able to seat up to 12. A stable door leads out on to the patio and garden beyond. There is also a handy utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Next door to the kitchen is the bright sitting room complete with comfy sofas and armchairs, a music system and a wood-burning stove. A small step leads up from the sitting room to the very handy games room, which has a large inglenook fireplace, sofas, French doors leading out to the garden, a TV, a DVD player and an XBox 360. If needed there is a useful ground floor cloakroom.

Two flights of stairs lead to the first floor of the main house where you will find four good sized, tastefully decorated bedrooms, all of which are south facing. The bedrooms include two doubles with en-suite bathrooms, a nice twin with wood floors, and the children's favourite bunk room. There is also a large family bathroom featuring a bath with hand held shower attachment, a WC and a double wash basin. Also found in the main house is a small children's playroom with toys and arts and crafts.

When booking the main house, guests will also have access to the adjoining Cott, which is suitable for less mobile guests, and included within the price of the house. In the Cott there is a large twin bedroom, a wet room and a small kitchen. The Cott also has direct access to the rear patio.

Outside guests have access to a large garden, which is located to both the front and rear of the house. There is also a children's play area, beautiful woods and a gentle stream.

Cornborough Coombe is located within easy reach of North Devon's beautiful coastline, as well as Exmoor National Park. Also only a short walk away is the award winning pub The Pig on the Hill.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"Arriving to a warm welcome from Sally the delicious cream tea really set the scene for the rest of our stay in this delightful cottage. Such attention to detail is so good to see! We decided not to travel as the weather has been so beautiful we decided to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the lovely garden."

"What a beautifully quiet, fantastically well-appointed and well-located home from home this is. We relaxed completely and the kitchen was our permanent chill out zone. The multiple rooms in the house made it easy for noisy kids + quiet adults to exist together. "

"Thank you Jack, Gro, Sally and all the staff involved for making Orchard so magical – beds are so comfortable, every room is beautifully decorated and furnished and it is all so wonderfully equipped."

Family Holiday

  • 4 of 5

The house, cottage and grounds were great for our family of 9. Everything that we needed was available and the cream tea on arrive was a lovely welcome touch. It would've been nice if the wifi worked - we did report this to the Agents but it was still unavailable all week.

Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Wonderful location, enchanting garden.

  • 4 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed my weeks stay here as part of a group of 9. Comfortable accommodation, plenty of space, it was especially helpful to have the additional annexe for my parents and a lovely play room with TV/DVD.

The grounds were great, we all enjoyed exploring the woods and wild garden. Having a pub nearby also a bonus!

Some starter tea bags, bin bags and working wifi would have made it 5 stars.

  • 5 of 5

IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST COTTAGES WE HAVE STAYED IN. IT WAS VERY BIG FOR ALL 10 OF US TO GET LOST IN. EVERYTHING YOU COULD WANT WAS THERE. EVEN THINGS TO TAKE TO THE BEACH, GAMES, BOOKS, THE WOODS, SWINGS, SLIDE, ROPE SWINGS AND MUCH MORE. WE WHERE A FAMILY RANGEING FROM 4 WEEKS TO 83 YEARS OLD AND WE ALL ENJOYED IT SO MUCH. IT WAS EXCELLENT FOR MY DISABLED MOTHER. SHE COULD DO ANY THING ON HER OWN IF SHE WANTED BECAUSE THE COTT WAS SO GOOD EQUIPED FOR THE DISABLED. THANK YOU FROM EVERYBODY.

A real GEM

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Cornborough cottages for a ladies weekend break it was a real gem of a property and absolutely perfect for a relaxing getaway. The main house and annex were full of charm with a lovely mix of old and new, very clean and well maintained with good quality furnishings and comfy beds. Tucked away in a peaceful rural location both cottages were well equipped with everything you could possibly need, the woodland and cottage gardens were really beautiful with plenty of space to lose yourself if you wanted to.

We would all love to book again and will definately recommend to friends.

I have stayed in many holiday cottages this property is one of the very best.

Thankyou for a truly wonderful weekend.

PS. The pub ' Pig on the Hill ' served great food and was only a 5 minute walk. Perfect !

A delightful retreat far from the madding crowd.

  • 5 of 5

I came to stay at the Cott for a week and could have stayed a lifetime!

It was fresh, bright and clean, and extremely comfortable. The garden and grounds were gorgeous and I spent most of my time outside from breakfast until dusk. Lots of places nearby to visit and explore. My favourite being a day in Clovelly. I would love to come with a larger group and stay at the cottage sometime. I had the most wonderful break.

QUIET CHARM.

  • 3 of 5

THE PROPERTY WAS COMFORTABLE AND SPACIOUS, WE HAD THE COTT A TWO PERSON ANNEX WITH A DISABLED SHOWER AND TOILET.

VERY QUIET AND OFF THE BEATEN TRACK.

WE TOOK OUR WESTIE ANGUS AS IT CATERS FOR PETS, BUT WE WERE A LITTLE PUT OFF BY DOG HAIRS ON THE SEATING,AS ANGUS IS NEVER PERMITTED ON FURNATURE.

OTHER THAN THIS IT WAS RELAXING AND CLOSE TO MANY PLACES TO VISIT.

Other Activities:

Many activities can be enjoyed within the local area, including water sports, golf, horse riding, walking and cycling.

Surfing is the most popular water sport in North Devon with lessons available at the nearby Westward Ho! beach. Sea kayaking and paddle-boarding are also becoming increasingly available in the local area.

The closest golf course is The Royal North Devon, which is located in Westward Ho! and is the oldest links course in the UK, it also has some of the best views as you tee-off across the Northam Burrows. Alternative golf courses are available at Barnstaple and Saunton.

For walkers, the South West Coast Path is easily accessible within Westward Ho! and is a great way to see the local coastline. There are also a number of other local footpaths and places to visit where walkers can see some of the beautiful countryside, including RHS Rosemoor and Tapley Park.

Cyclists and walkers can also have fun on the Tarka Trail, a largely traffic free pathway running from Braunton to Meeth. This pathway is ideal for all ages as it is mainly flat and well maintained.

Cornborough Coombe is ideally located for exploring the best that North Devon has to offer. Within easy reach of the house is the gorgeous Westward Ho! which is the western gateway to the North Devon coastline. The village has a lovely selection of bars and restaurants, including the Pier House, there are also several shops, and a surf school. For a restaurant a little closer to the house, The Pig on the Hill is just a few minutes walk away and serves good quality food all year round.

Other nearby beaches and coastal resorts to visit include Instow, Appledore, Bude and Saunton. With Woolacombe and Croyde also less than an hour away.

For a fun filled family day out there are many different attractions within easy reach, such as The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, Dartington Crystal and RHS Rosemoor. A little further away is Exmoor Zoo and Watermouth Castle.

If you would prefer to explore the rugged landscape of Exmoor, the national park is only a 30-minute drive from the house. Once on Exmoor you can admire the views, look out for some of the local wildlife or stop off for a traditional cream tea in one of the many cosy tea rooms or pubs.

Other notable places of interest in North Devon include Ilfracombe, Barnstaple and Bideford. All of these have something to offer their visitors such as a cinema, a theatre, a selections of shops, pubs and restaurants and much more.
