With enormous windows, this bright and spacious property provides a tranquil setting for a relaxed holiday in the North Devon countryside. Each room has been stylishly decorated with homely touches and comfortable furniture.

The kitchen, which is at the heart of the house is very well-equipped with all the expected mod-cons, as well as a few you wouldn't expect. Fitted within the kitchen is a large American style fridge/freezer with ice dispenser, a microwave, a dishwasher, a double range cooker, a washing machine and a tumble dryer. Next door to the kitchen is the fabulous dining room with large table catering the whole party.

The lounge is large with areas for all the family or just relaxing with a glass of wine. At one end is the comfy family area with large sofa and floor cushions, as well as a TV and fire. The other side of the lounge has plush armchairs and a two seater sofa from which the countryside views can be admired.

Doors open from the lounge out on to a gorgeous south facing terrace with BBQ and tables to enjoy alfresco dinners. Beyond the terrace is a large communal landscaped garden complete with an all-weather tennis court and two children's play areas, one of which is located opposite The Stables and features a slide and two swings. Next door to the property is the games room, which has table tennis, table football and darts.

The six en-suite bedrooms are split over both floors to suit all groups staying at the house. On the ground floor of the house there are two bedrooms, one double with king size bed and one twin, both have en-suite shower rooms and have been beautifully decorated. Upstairs there are four further bedrooms three doubles with king size beds and one twin. Guestbook comments from the manager

October 13 2013. Border and Jervis Family. Middlesex.

''We came here to celebrate my sixtieth birthday. What a wonderful venue, well equipped and very much a ‘home from home’. A great escape, hope to come back for another visit.''

August 28 2013. The Grahams. Hampshire.

''Two weeks in a super house and in a super location. There were six adults and five children for the first week and down to four adults and three children for the second week. The weather was mostly kind to us and we all loved the beaches. We all had lots of fun. Superb walking here too, especially the coastal walks. The house was large enough for us all to have space and to congregate as a family. Thank you for making our holiday.''

A Beautiful house, in a beautiful area,

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our family, it was. clean and beautifully presented, with fresh flowers and tea coffee and wine provided, along with a delicious cake. Good sized bedrooms, lovely living areas, a great kitchen and dining room, where we enjoyed our evening meals each night. The local pub served amazing food, and fitted all 12 of us in with an hours notice. The house is easy to find and a perfect base to explore the beautiful villages, towns and beaches of north Devon. Would definitely recommend, and hope to book again for another family holiday.

5*. A beautiful and peaceful property. Excellent place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Email correspondence were swiftly and professional met - all questions were answered in an informative and friendly manner. A beautiful home that was well-kept, peaceful and comfortable. Beautifully furnished - with everything you would need at hand. The games room was very entertaining. We also loved the use of the tennis courts. Even though the property is located in a village, you would believe you were secluded (which was lovely). The homemade cake upon arrival was a nice touch, and made us feel even more welcome. Lovely views and friendly horses near by for petting. We only wished we could have stayed longer. We would highly recommend and look forward to future stays!

Fabulous house and grounds, clean, well equipped

  • 4 of 5

Great place to spend time with friends and family of all ages. Despite the inclement weather we still used the tennis courts and the games room was used by us all. Very spacious, with 12 of us and two dogs we all had the space we needed. Well equipped kitchen to cook as much or as little as you wish. Will definitely be coming back!

Doherty Family London

We were a party of 9adults 4children . We were delighted with the house that we found very clean, comfortable and fitted us all well. We were there for a wedding so didn't get to take advantage of the activities. Would like to visit again and certainly would recommend it. The only downside, was lack of phone signal in the house that was a bit annoying. Lovely Devon.

Other Activities:

Many different activities can be enjoyed within the local area. At several of the beaches there are numerous water sports on offer, including surfing and kayaking, many of the beaches will offer lessons to suit all abilities, as well as having equipment available to hire.

Golf courses can be found either in Barnstaple or at the nearby Saunton Sands, where there is a championship standard 18-hole course with stunning sea views.

Other activities available locally include horse riding and coasteering.

For walkers, the South West Coast Path is easily accessible, as is the Tarka Trail, which can be picked up in Barnstaple and is a largely traffic free tarmac path suitable for both walkers and cyclists - stop off at Fremington Quay for a wonderful meal at the cafe that also serves wonderful home-made cakes.

The Stables are beautifully located within the North Devon countryside just a few miles outside of the market town of Barnstaple. This ideally positioned house is within easy reach of the stunning coastline home to some of the country's best beaches, including Saunton Sands, Woolacombe, Croyde and Westward Ho!, as well as Exmoor National Park, which is less than a 30-minute drive from The Stables.

Barnstaple itself has several excellent places to eat and shop, both within its bustling high street and around the outskirts. Cedars Inn just a few miles from the house has a good restaurant and bar, as done the Chichester Arms in Bishops Tawton, which is easily reached. There are also several supermarkets, many of which will offer home delivery to The Stables.

Other notable places within easy reach and worth visiting, include Instow with its pretty esplanade and wonderful pubs, Appledore where you can wander the cobbled streets, Ilfracombe home to contemporary artist Damien Hirst's statue Verity and Lynton and Lynmouth where Exmoor meets the sea.

There are several attractions to suit all ages that are nearby, discover the world of dinosaurs at the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, explore the rare animals on show at Exmoor Zoo, or have fun at the Milky Way where there are a range of both indoor and outdoor rides. Many of these attractions will offer discounts on tickets booked in advance, so it is well worth planning ahead. Alternative, less child friendly attractions include Arlington Court, RHS Rosemoor and Broomhill Sculpture Gardens.
