Cottage in Lee Bay, between Woolacombe and Ilfracombe, North Devon, England
This stunning chocolate box thatched cottage has recently been lovingly converted into an extremely high standard holiday home for couples, groups of friends and families. It set on a generous 1 acre site affording good outside space. Given that some of the site is somewhat hilly, a smaller enclosed area has been created to provide a level garden for children with a patio and seating for leisurely afternoons, a glass of wine or alfresco dinners. There is plenty of space for both sunbathing and dining under the stars and from Easter to the end of September a large barbecue is available.
Old Maids Cottage is on the village roadside (the lane just serves Lee Bay and doesn't go anywhere else!) but is fully enclosed with protection for privacy and to ensure that young children or dogs do not wander onto the lane. There is also off-road parking for 2 cars.
The garden is mainly laid shrubs and pot plants with plenty of outside seating.
There is a really good pub, The Grampus Inn just 100m down the road that serves good food and the cove at Lee Bay is only a short walk down the quiet lane and is great for kids.
Dogs are welcome at £50 for 1 and £75 for 2.

“Our family has been coming on holiday to Lee for over 100 years. We’ve been so pleased to see OMC rescued and restored. Having stayed in most of the holiday lets here over the years we were delighted by the luxury we found in OMC.”
August 2014, Eastwood family
“We had a lovely stay in the cottage. We loved how the beach was so close and we could swim in it. Thank you. Fantastic stay we will be back next year!”
August 2014, Gaskell family, Nottingham
“We waited all year for our return visit to OMC and were not disappointed. We will really miss the peace and quiet. The children loved the rock pooling, fishing and surfing to name but a few. Two weeks was not long enough! Spotlessly clean too. Can't wait to return next year.”
July 2014, Holland family , Yorkshire
“We loved the cottage very beautifully done. Beach is great despite being rocky - we walked round to the next bay. Grampus Inn very welcoming … Lee is a perfect oasis of quiet - we loved it.”

Unspoiled, cosy and luxurious all in one
Excellently situated 15" from Lee Beach. Very well equipped and to high standards. Owners have done a very good job of restoring this cottage & making it into a very cherning and cosy location for a family holiday.
Choccy box cottage
Lovely spot, well appointed interior, comfy bed, superb shower
Please buy some new kitchen knives, you can't cut jelly with those.
Had an issue with heating on our first night there. The cottage was cold on arrival and the heating was far from effective even with the woodburner going also
Would have been a good idea to turn the heating on prior to arrival, as understandably the place had been unused for a while .
My overriding concern is that despite notifying you of the situation on the Friday evening, NOTHING was done about it at the time, or subsequently.
We had been told that Nicky would be coming round to replenish the log basket but he made no appearance. An apology would have been some consolation, but basically there was zero customer service, even when I called in to your offices on the way home. Poor show . My Holiday marketing have failed...miserably
The Old Maids Cottage is all we were anticipating and, even, a tad more...

From Old Maids you can set out for a day’s walking and experience some of the most breath taking scenery along the coastal paths of North Devon. Along the coast towards Combe Martin you will find the tallest cliffs in Europe at the strangely named Little Hangman. You are also only a short drive away from the National Park at Exmoor, where the more experienced walkers can roam for miles on uninterrupted moorland.
Old Maids is only a few miles away from some of the best surfing in the world with the beaches of Woolacombe, Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton only a few miles away.
The Tarka Trail offers level cycling for miles, from Braunton to Torrington, taking in some amazing scenery along the way.
There are stables nearby where you can ride a horse for the day and enjoy riding in some of the loveliest countryside in the UK. If you’re really lucky you might be able to ride along the miles of golden sand at Woolacombe Bay from Woolacombe to Putsborough.
Old Maids is situated on the glorious North Devon coast and is surrounded by some of the best beaches in the UK. Lee Bay itself is a lovely cove and great for small children, who would like to enjoy the safe sandy beach and wonderful rock pools. The beaches of Woolacombe and Putsborough are only a few miles around the headland and offer 6 miles of golden sandy beaches and some of Europe's best surfing. From Lee Bay the seaside towns of Woolacombe and Ilfracombe are nearby and offer plenty of amusement for all ages. Both towns have fantastic restaurants and lively bars, and Ilfracombe has the famous Landmark theatre and a cinema.
The main town for the region is Barnstaple, which is only 20 minutes away and has great shops and everything you would expect of a large town. It has a newly renovated leisure centre and swimming pool. Barnstaple also has the main railway station where you can get the train to Exeter for a day out.
There are beautiful villages all over North Devon from quaint rural communities to trendy fishing villages full of art galleries and craft shops, like Appledore and Instow.
Combe Martin is a quaint North Devon seaside town and claims to have a street with more pubs than any town in England along with another 20 that I know! The town not only has plenty of bars and restaurants but a lovely, harbour beach, which is completely safe for children to play and swim and if you’re lucky you will even be able to swim with the local friendly dolphin!
Further down the coast the beautiful surfing village of Croyde is a mecca for surf lovers and the young fashion conscious looking for fun. The village has some great pubs, notably The Thatch and some stylish restaurants. But Croyde is really famous for its lovely beach and great surfing and if you’re not that active it’s a great beach for simply sitting and watching.
Barnstaple is the main town in North Devon and dates back to Viking times, so there is plenty of history in the old buildings and even a very small castle which wouldn't have been very hard to storm! The town has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, a multi-screen cinema and thriving theatre as well as a modern leisure centre with 25m swimming pool and large gym. So perfect for a day out for all the family.
