About Mark Ryland

We are Mark and Yvonna a husband and wife team. We moved from the South East just before Xmas 2014 as an 'escape to the country'.

Our cottages are set in a courtyard along with our home, the old farmhouse, so we are nearby to help if any problems arise. We live here with our 2 young boys Ben and Harvey ages 9 and 6.

Mark Ryland purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Mark Ryland chose Torridge

We believe we have the largest indoor pool in the whole of North Devon for the number of cottages. You can basically guarantee a private swim every day that you are here.

Our country cottages are set in 6 acres and surrounded by common land, perfect for walking. Whilst being rural our family friendly cottages are not isolated and are less than a mile away from the small market town of Great Torrington with pubs, restaurants, take-aways, supermarket etc.

Eggcellent Easter Week

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a fabulous week spent in Beam Weir with our family. The cottage is just perfect for up to seven people. It was very clean and comfortable.

Upstairs the three bedrooms are well furnished in attractive cottage style: good, comfortable beds were made up with attractive, quality bedlinen. The space is generous with ample storage. The two bathrooms provide good facilities and constant hot water.

The large lounge/diner downstairs is a super room for family meals with a lovely big table and chairs. This year we didn't light the fire as the weather was kind but last year we did and were very cosy.

The kitchen is well-equipped and spacious with smart crockery and glasswear, plenty of cooking pans etc. With seven people a dishwasher would be a plus but that's because we are spoiled at home!

Our grandchildren particularly enjoyed the outdoor space, feeding the animals each morning and also, the swimming pool and games room. Being able to set up our Easter Egg hunt in the play area was a real bonus.

The owners are very friendly and helpful at all times and we would thoroughly recommend Hill Farm Cottages to anyone. The layout of the cottages is beautiful and there is plenty to explore in the area.

Beautiful, comfortable, functional and fun!

  • 5 of 5

We rented Beam Weir so that we could meet up with our friends which also have a young family. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and well laid out. The kitchen had a good range of implements etc for self catering. We also had a lovely takeaway from a local Chinese which was pinned to the notice board. The pool, games room and animals were enjoyed by both the children and adults. We will keep the place in mind for larger family gatherings as it's a perfect spot!

14-21 July Beam Weit

  • 5 of 5

Returning again, but to different cottage. Excellent customer service, local knowledge, daily feeding time with animals loved by our 4 year old, clean and spacious cottage. Lots of options for a young family within 30-60 minutes drive - adventure parks, farms, beaches, cycling. Would recommend to others.

Lovely child friendly cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Beam Weir, the largest of the cottages. On arrival it was immaculately clean and the owners (who also live on site) couldn't be more helpful throughout our 2 week holiday. The on site heated pool was great and available to use all day, a nice way to end the day after enjoying the beaches / parks in Devon.

Our children enjoyed the morning animal feeding, especially Pepper the escaping goat, and also the space to run and play away from the main courtyard.

For anyone wanting a quiet base to holiday in North Devon, this is a perfect location and we are booking the same cottage for next year, which is the best recommendation we can give.

Cons: you need a supply of pound coins if you want to wash / dry clothes

Pros: clean, cosy accommodation, lovely owners, great location, space for children to play (without disturbing others), heated pool, good value
