About the property

2 bedroom stone, mid terraced cottage with many original features

A mid terraced property with a fully enclosed garden. The terrace is built side on to the road and we are the second property in. Downstairs there is a well stocked kitchen with handmade units and a belfast sink as well as a dishwasher and washing machine. The lounge diner has a large stone fireplace with wood burner and window seat. There is a television and DVD player and free wifi. The floors are solid stone or wood, making it ideal for dogs. The downstairs ceiling is lower than a more modern property but an average person has no problem walking around without bumping their head!

The stairs lead to three rooms and a bathroom on the first floor. The main bedroom has a double bed, the second room has two single beds and the third can be used as a small playroom. There is room for a travel cot in the main bedroom, (not provided). The bathroom has an electric shower over the bath. Towels, (including beach towels), bed linen and tea towels are provided.

There is a small, sunny garden with garden furniture and a barbecue. There is ample parking outside on Bond Street. The cottage is in the village of Cornwood, which is inside the boundary of the National Park. From the village centre there are views of the Moor which is only 2 kilometres away, a pub and a small shop. Ivybridge is the nearest main town where you can find everything you need for a stay in this most beautiful part of the country.

About Lynnette & Tony

We are a family of five living near Bournemouth. Our roots are in Kent and London but we decided to move to the South West as it is a pretty part of the UK. We often spent our summer holidays on Dartmoor, and when an opportunity arose we decided to buy ourselves a property their for us to use.

Lynnette & Tony purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Lynnette & Tony chose Dartmoor

Cornwood is a very friendly, welcoming village ideally situated at the southern tip of Dartmoor. The cottage is attractive and homely and within walking distance of the moor itself.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Enjoyed our stay at your cottage, we used it as a base so we could do five days walking. You have a nice place with lovely neighbours. We could have had better weather but you can't book the weather

Once again thanks !!

Small but very good value for money, lovely bathroom, clean bedrooms

  • 4 of 5

We had a 2 night stay here , it was very good value for money, lovely bathroom & bedrooms. It was a little dark in the kitchen & living room but the dining table was set out really nicely and set next to the window. Sweet little garden. Good communication from the owners when booking. Many thanks

Very convenient location to Dartmoor and great hiking! Charming village with shopping and restaurant

  • 4 of 5

Clothing tumbler would be most helpful. Washer available, but no dryer.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. We did consider a combined washing machine/tumble dryer but the running costs are quite high and we wouldn't have any control over it's usage. We feel we would have to increase all our rental costs to ensure we covered the electricity bill and this would be unfair on those that were mindful of its usage. We are also conscious that we don't want to install an electricity meter as these can be inconvenient and fiddly to use. Were glad you enjoyed your stay though, and your review just about sums up what we thought when we bought the cottage!

A beautiful stone cottage

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at rose cottage it was very easy to access the moors. The cottage was very comfortable and a typical Devon stone cottage (beautiful). The local pub is great place to eat and we were made to feel very welcome and they accomodated our Jack Russell. We hope to return in the near

future. Many thanks Dave & Sandra

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. There are a number of routes on to the Moor and into Ivybridge, but at the same time it is not too isolated from civilisation. Having the pub and a local shop within walking distance were just two of the specific things we were looking for when we bought it.

Average stay

We had a so so experience at this cottage. It was difficult for us to find (make sure you use the owners directions and not GPS). The kitchen needed a good cleaning, and there was no toilet paper in the cottage which meant an immediate trip back to town. We also had difficulty with having enough hot water for showers even by using the "boost" on the water heater and not taking a long shower. The stairs to the bedrooms are narrow and winding. Parking is on the road. On the plus side it is a cute little town with a pub, near walking paths, the beds are comfortable, and the living area/dining area is very nice. The kitchen has what you need if you wish to prepare meals. The owner was great at providing information about where to visit locally and answered emails quickly.

Owner's Response: Hi there and thanks for the review. We are sorry that everything wasn't as you would like and will take steps to amend the issues you had. We are not entirely sure why the shower was not supplying enough hot water as it is not connected to the main system but powered by an internal heater, this means there should always be hot water if the shower is on. I will amend the instructions to reflect the fact that there are two switches which need to be on in case it was one of those that you missed. We do like to think that most things are provided so we will check with the cleaner as to why there was no toilet paper and why the kitchen hadn't been cleaned to your standard. We are unable to do much with the physical size of the rooms as they were built over 200 years ago and that was the norm in those days! We will however, emphasise the measurements on the web site to make it clear and try to get some new photos too Once again, thanks for feeding back your comments and giving us a chance to improve what we do.

Lovely character cottage

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay. Great position for exploring Dartmoor. Did not use the log burner, it had not been cleaned by the previous guest, but cottage was warm enough with radiators.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. From the cottage you can walk on to the Moor in about twenty minutes. There are a couple of routes you can take once you are there, which means you have at least two days worth of walking without having to resort to a car! We rely on the person using the log burner to clean it out after they have used it as it isn't really a task the cleaner should undertake. However, we will add it to the checklist.
