Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a fabulous weekend celebrating my 26th birthday. The location of the properly and superb spa facilities meant we were either walking along the beautiful coastline or in the hot tub overlooking the sea. The evenings were spent with a refreshing glass of wine and game of monopoly. We hope to be booking again soon!

Amazing Views, Quality Finishes, Perfect Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Castle Keep totally exceeded our expectations. The size and quality of this fully equipped house was perfect for our group of six (6) adults utilizing all four (4) bedrooms/4.1 bathrooms (3 En-Suite).

Three of our group were in their mid 80's, two of which have some mobility issues, and despite tricky access in getting a vehicle close to house, they had no issues. In fact they were totally content to sit and watch the boat activity in and out of the Fowey/Polruan harbor. We loved our stay so much we extended an extra day.

Be aware the roads/alleys of Polruan, Fowey and many of these Cornish villages were never built to take vehicular traffic, so be skilled at reversing, and leave your large cars at home - They simply won't fit.

In regard to booking the house and coordinating our arrival/departure from the USA, Lou was the consummate professional, yet easy going, flexible and super helpful. The whole process was very easy.

Simply put, this was a wonderful five days that I would recommend to anyone.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

The house is amazing! Both internally and the location, there's no better way to wake up or round the day off than be looking out over the water. Everything is finished off to the highest spec and the kids thought they had joined the cast of Keeping up with the Kardashians when they saw the walk in wardrobes! Everything you could possible need is here and Polruan is a great place to stay, with 2 very good pubs and lots of friendly faces.

Great stay, great service. Will be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your Review and we are delighted you have had a great holiday. Polruan is a very special place and the two pubs are fantastic and the village is quirky and remote enough to get away from it all but very easy to get to all other areas of Cornwall! Fowey, located on the other side of the river has a variety of great quality pubs, restaurants, shops and art galleries giving you everything you need and more for a holiday to remember.

Sad to leave!

  • 5 of 5

No place like home, right? Not so with this property. Normally, after staying in rented holiday accommodation for a few days, we look forward to returning home. This house is so spacious, superbly furnished, well equipped and with the most mesmerising sea views that we were really sorry to leave. We can't wait to stay there again.

Wonderful week in spite of the weather

  • 5 of 5

The house was excellent. Our group has stayed in a number of houses over the years, and this was the best.

The views are wonderful, on the promontary, overlooking Fowey, and the yachts saiing in and out of the harbour.

Everything in the house was well designed, well planned and excellent quality. The place was spotless, beds comfortable.

We were a bit worried to begin with, over the access...not easy, especially since we brought 4 cars. We would recommend you bring the smallest car you have as the lanes to Polruan are single track and the roads in Polruan itself are too narrow for a car.

But that was what makes the village so special...the peace and quiet, strolling down the middle of the road back from the pub.

Loved it.

Wonderful Views

  • 5 of 5

This property is fabulous. Very spacious including kitchen with Aga, (that has an electric cooker too) with all the equipment you would ever need. Beds v comfortable and bedding good quality. All decorated beautifully and very clean. The views are wonderful and we enjoyed watching the boats coming and going from the harbour. It is a very relaxing place to be. The drawbacks...you cannot park outside the house so there is an element of carrying cases etc. There is good parking for two cars a few hundred yards away and you can back down nearer to the house to unpack. We had to drive up to the nearby car park to get our online shopping as Sainsbury's couldn't get down nearer to us, as the lanes are narrow and steep. Despite these drawbacks, we have still given 5 stars, as the house is so lovely. You can get to Fowey easily on a little ferry that runs from Polruan that takes just a few minutes. The Lugger pub in Polruan provides great food too. We all agreed that this was the nicest property we have ever stayed in and we had a wonderful time.

Location, Location, Location!

  • 5 of 5

The most luxurious, well postioned house we have ever stayed in and there have been many! Beautiful immaculate house, extremely well appointed, beautiful furniture..luxurious cotton bedding and comfortable beds which were very welcome after a long day walking. The most amazing views of the sea..from practically every window, come rain or shine..'simply stunning'. Attention to detail in every aspect of the house. There isn't anything all 6 adults could complain about. Tessa was lovely and helpful. Overall 10/10 A very friendly place and the little ferry crossing to fowey everyday was great fun. We would happily stay again!

Location

From the Owner

Polruan and Fowey and the surrounding areas on the South Coast of Cornwall are truly magical. The South Coast is not as commercialised as some areas on the North Coast, however all areas of Cornwall are very different in their own ways, giving any visitor to the County a very special, unique and diverse experience..... come rain or shine!

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Newquay at 30 Miles Nearest Barpub : The Russell Inn at 200 Metres Nearest Ferry : Bodinnick Car Ferry - between Polruan & Fowey at 2 Miles Nearest Golf : Carlyon Bay Hotel & Golf at 6 Miles Nearest Train : Par Station at 3 Miles Nearest Motorway : A30 at 32 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Various in Fowey at 1 Miles Nearest Ski : Plymouth Ski & Snowboard Centre at 35 Miles Nearest Beach : Boys Cove (Private Beach for Castle Keep) at 20 Metres Car: recommended

Polruan is a charming town that literally sits on the Fowey Estuary. Located on the South coast of Cornwall right next door to Fowey.

Built into the side of the cliff it is very typical of a traditional quaint fishing town, oozing quirkiness and character and home to some of the friendliest people you will ever meet.

Very popular with Yachting and Sailing and all manner of water sports & fishing takes place on the Estuary.

It has 2 charming little beaches off the main Quay where crabbing and fishing is popular with all ages. There are several spectacular coastal & countryside walks starting in Polruan, namely The South West Coast Path and The Saints Way - both littered with 'Vista's' and full of history, myths & legends.

There is a children’s playpark with possibly the best sea views in the UK.

The two cosy Cornish pubs; The Luggar Inn and The Russell Inn, serve fantastic home cooked local food within a warm & welcoming environment. The village shop, cafe and Post Office, less than a 5 minute walk away, gives you everything you need so you can literally shut yourself away from the World.

Should you wish to explore little lanes full of award winning restaurants & pubs, shops, art galleries, cafes and local food establishments, jump on the foot ferry from the Quay and within 2 minutes you will arrive at the enchanting and historic town of Fowey.

A lot of our guests don’t feel the need to use their car when with us, but should you wish to visit an attraction or have a drive around another part of Cornwall it is very easy to get out and explore:-

• Fowey – full of shops, art galleries and restaurants - 2 minute passenger ferry from main Quay

• The Eden Project - 25 minute drive

• Lost Gardens of Heligan - 30 minutes drive

• Charlestown – gorgeous little fishing port and where Poldark and Pirates of the Caribbean are filmed! - 15 minute drive

• Mevagissey – traditional Cornish fishing town - 35 minute drive

• Crealy Adventure Park – 35 minute drive

• Newquay – surf central - 40 minute drive

• Watergate Bay and Jamie Oliver 15 – gorgeous beaches and views – 50 minute drive

• Padstow – Rick Stein Restaurants – 60 minute drive

• St Ives – 80 minute drive

• Looe – 20 minute drive

• The Minnack Theatre, Porthcurno – 90 minute drive

• Falmouth – full of shops, art galleries and restaurants - 70 minute drive

• Truro – fabulous shopping and restaurants – 40 minute drive or 15 minutes by train from Par station which is 3 miles away

So you see, Castle Keep has something for everyone... and more.

Facilities

From the Owner

Castle Keep is a real Jewel in the Crown. It is very rare to find such a superior property and in such a remarkable and enviable location as a holiday home. When people think of Cornwall, they immediately imagine themselves by the sea and spending their time on a sandy beach or basking in the sunshine, and they want to get as close to that as possible. Castle Keep gives you all of that and you don't even have to leave the property! You can pop down to the beach in your pyjamas if you wish to and the far reaching and uninterrupted views of the sea is a true tonic. You really will not want to leave...
