About Charlie Slater

Andrew and Charlie Slater live near Newcastle but Andrew grew up spending all his holidays in Beadnell with his family. He built Alexandra Cottage himself in 2005 and now the next generation is enjoying this fantastic village on the Northumberland coast. We spent the winter of 2017 adding a small extension and completely renovating the cottage, allowing us to add an en-suite bathroom to the master bedroom and an additional seating area. We have aimed for a quality finish and a coastal feel to the cottage which we love spending time in.

Charlie Slater purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Charlie Slater chose Beadnell

This cottage is in the perfect location; just yards from two great country pubs, yet just a short stroll across the field or down the lane to a choice of unspoilt sandy beaches. The south facing garden is sheltered and a real sun trap - there is nothing better than catching the evening sun with a glass of something cold after a hard day on the beach or visiting one of the many local castles. We spent the winter of 2017 adding a small extension and completely renovating the cottage, allowing us to add an en-suite bathroom to the master bedroom and an additional seating area. We have aimed for a quality finish and a coastal feel to the cottage which we love spending time in.

Our visitors come back again and again as they say it is a "home from home"

Testimonials include:

"The cottage was perfect for us. Wonderful location, easily accessible for all we wanted to do."

"Alexandra Cottage is one of the nicest and most comfortable holiday cottages we have stayed in."

"Alexandra Cottage is a fabulous cottage and we fully intend to come back! Thank you for having us!"

What makes this cottage unique

We made the most of the stunning coastal views by building the cottage "upside down". From the huge windows in the upstairs living area you can see right across to the ruins of Dunstanburgh castle on the coast near Craster.

Being a modern build property means it is cosy and draught free, whilst we made sure that the design and feel of the cottage is in keeping with a coastal fishing village. The vaulted ceiling with exposed beams along with the wood burning stove create a fabulous atmosphere on a winters evening.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We've thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Alexandra Cottage. By far the best equipped holiday cottage we've stayed in, especially with small children.

Thank you for all the thoughtful extras.

We've spent lots of time on the beach, a trip to Holy Island and visited Alnwick gardens.

Newly upgraded cottage with stylish but cosy interior

  • 5 of 5

Loved our second stay just as much as the first. Different holiday due to wet weather but with log burner and monopoly it kept us and 2 kids going! Such a perfect spot in Beadnell village near beach, pub, shop and cafe.

Comfy beds, good showers, spotlessly clean and a kitchen better than my own! I reckon we could be on for a hatrick stay at Alexandra Cottage!

P.s the outside space would be ideal for reading your book with a coffee in the sun. If the sun put in an appearance!

Lovely cottage with fantastic sea views.

  • 5 of 5

A great cottage in a superb location to visit all Northumberland has to offer. A short walk to great beaches that stretch for miles or to explore rock pools at low tide. The cottage offered everything you would need for a comfortable stay and there is much more room than you would imagine as sometimes pictures tend to enlarge the spaces but this cottage really is roomy and comfortable. The living accommodation upstairs takes advantage of the great sea views across Beadnell Bay towards Dunstanbrough Castle. I would definitely recommend this cottage and I would love to go back at some point in the future. Congratulations to Charlie and Andrew who have carved themselves a little gem.......

Cute house with everything you need and more! Best setting in Northumberland!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in Northumberland a few times but this was the best. Sandwiched in the centre of Beadnell (2 great pubs within a stones throw) this is a great base to explore the area. Beadnell has a shop, playpark, pubs, beautiful beach and a lovely cafe. Just perfect for our family if 4. As soon as I walked into this house I felt at home. Beautiful garden with decking (ideal for morning tea in the sun) and 2 good sized bedrooms. The shower is huge and great. No bath but not a problem for us. Lounge, dining area and lovely kitchen too. Great space for our family. The thoughtful owners had an array of toys too which kept my 2 occupied. We've already booked to be back next year and can see us being regulars! Thanks Charlie for a great stay!!

Excellent as ever!

  • 5 of 5

Third stay in Alexandra Cottage and it gets better with each visit. The cottage itself, Beadnell and Northumberland in general all make for a wonderfully relaxing break and we already booked again for September even before this holiday ended. I cannot recommend this as a holiday destination highly enough. Also the owners are very efficient and helpful and they have our thanks for making out stay an excellent one.
