**Available for a long term rental Sept 2018 - June 2019** A chalet-style 2-bed single-storey detached cottage (gîte), newly renovated and very private. Access is off the road, through an electric gate. The outside consists of private parking for two cars, then a huge private courtyard of about 150m² (1500ft²), half covered for shade, half open to the sun. Use of our 10x5m heated pool next door from early May to end September. I designed and managed the construction of the property myself, with people of reduced mobility in mind, particularly wheelchair users.
There is easy access into the property, all doorways are 90cm wide and there is a large turning space in the middle of the building to enable easy access to all rooms. I've included a grab bar in the shower, plus use of a shower chair, and a disabled regulation height wc.
The property itself is newly renovated in a modern Scandinavian chalet style, and is about 90m² (900ft²) in size, with a 40m² living/dining/kitchen area, large hallway with cleaning cupboard (with iron, ironing board, mop, bucket, vacuum cleaner etc) and utility nook (with washing machine). The modern bathroom (c.8m²) with huge walk-in shower (remember, with grab bar and shower chair), brightly lit, sparkling mirror and wc lies off this (with wide sink, surfaces and heated towel rail).
Two bedrooms (both about 15m²) are separated by the bathroom for intimacy; one is a double room to the front of the property, with 1.8m sliding doors and shutters, sloped exposed beamed ceiling; double bed, bedside tables, lamp each side, desk and chair, built-in wardrobe. The other bedroom lies to the back of the property, another (slightly lower) sloped exposed beamed ceiling, twin zip and link beds which can either be used as two singles or zipped together to make a divinely comfortable super king size bed (6ft). There is a wardrobe, chest of drawers and desk in this bedroom.
The kitchen is fully equipped - cutlery, crockery, cookware, utensils, chopping boards, plus kettle and plunge-style coffee pot. Gas cooker with electric oven, extractor hood, microwave, full-size integrated dishwasher, full-size fridge with freezer section. One and a half sink with shower tap. Table and seating for four. There is also a modern glass desk and chair. The chalet has a really fresh, light and clean feel to it!
The living area consists of a sofa, armchair, coffee table and TV, dvd player and Sky+ box. There is a really good speed wifi connection too. All this is set off by the 3.6m long tri-pane sliding doors, configurable so you can benefit from 2.4m of open door at any one time; left or right or a bit each side! This really gives you the benefit of the inside-outside blurring of space.
Babies and children: Cot, high chair and other necessary baby equipment available (steriliser, bottle-warmer, toys, ride-on, scooters, stroller, change mat, crockery/cutlery, bedlinen, etc.)
The private courtyard/terrace outside has a table with seating for 6, two sun loungers, huge built-in barbecue, spare drinks fridge (invaluable in this region of great wine!).
We live in the chalet in July and August ourselves while we rent our family home next door out. The chalet is therefore available to rent from September to June. Please feel free to use our pool if you are renting within its open months - we have just installed pool heating so the pool is totally warm and lovely from May to September (reflected in rental prices). We've also just invested in a salt-water ionising system (which doesn't mean the water tastes salty!) which leaves your hair and skin feeling amazingly silky soft! (NB the pool is not open in March and April)
Long term winter lets available - September to June. £800 for one month (£750 per month for multi-month lets) including bills (water, electricity, Sky TV and internet). The chalet is well-insulated and heated with electric wall heaters and a heated towel rail in the bathroom.
Available for a winter long let from the beginning of September 2018.
We look forward to welcoming you to our little haven of peace!

I'm originally from Cambridge and moved to this part of France in 2002 as a singleton looking for an adventure! I soon met my daughter's father and we bought a local bar and had our daughter. Now divorced, I work helping current and future ex-pats with their administrative paperwork (healthcare, banking, bills etc) and even property hunting (rentals and purchases) before they get here. To supplement my income, I decided to renovate an outbuilding in my garden and voilà! Now it's ready for you!
Nicole Hammond purchased this chalet in 2011
Having spent many holidays here when I was a child, as well as several French exchanges, France has always felt like my adopted home; I have always felt at ease with its language, people, customs and traditions. When the opportunity arose to come and live and work here, I jumped at the chance, and I've never looked back! This region is amazing - it is rural yet you have the towns of Béziers (10mins) and Montpellier (45 mins) close by. I loved the main property here because it was a perfect family home, in the perfect village and had lots of outside space to run around in (I even let my daughter do it too sometimes! :) )
With rear access to the chalet and, once-parked, no-one overlooking you, you really feel like you are in your own little world here! The space inside has been designed to be ergonomic, yet generous. We have considered wheelchair access and use in that we have installed a disabled-height wc, floor level, walk-in shower with grab bar, all doors are 90cm wide for easy wheelchair access, ramps inside (no steps) and external concrete ramp with large turning circle for entry into the apartment itself. And you are so close to everything in Espondeilhan - 10 mins to Pézenas or Béziers, and with the new underpass in Béziers, you can get to the coast in 20 mins on a good day now! It's a really direct route and by Summer 2018 there'll be a new overpass too so that will make things even quicker!
