Detatched large house with stunning uninteruppted panoramic seaviews .

Updated: 15-Oct-2016
A four bed large family house. Sleeps 8-10.

Wyndswaye is a large family home that we built after demolishing the old coastal bungalow that once sat on the site. It can sleep up to 10 people.(there is an option to book the annexe attached to the property if you have a larger party of people. It sleeps 4 and is self contained)

The biggest feature of the house is the 10 meter living space with curved roof. This is the hub of the house where I am sure you will love to spend time. The kitchen is a part of the living area and the outside is brought in by accessing the large balcony through the triple sliding patio doors. The balcony spans the length of the house and is large enough to spend time drinking/dining or just relaxing.

The main house has 4 large King size rooms equipped with televisions. The master bedroom on the top floor of the house is large with en suite bathroom and walk in wet room styled shower. The main bedroom is South, South East facing and has sliding patio doors that lead directly onto the balcony. You can lay in the bed and watch the sun rise over Wembury Bay and the mouth of the River Yealm. Each of the three king size rooms downstairs have great sea views. Bed 2 has an en-suite bathroom. Bed 2 and 3 share a bathroom. Each of the bathrooms has a bath, shower and toilet with heated towel rails. Up stairs there is an additional large toilet with wheelchair access. You access the house on the first floor and this is where you will find the entrance area, cloakroom and the toilet. The main living space leads from the entrance.

Down a few steps you will access the snug and the master bedroom. Ground floor has three bedrooms: bedroom two with ensuite, bedrooms three and four that share a bathroom. There is a laundry room with washing machine and dryer.

The area of Wembury Point sits in an area of outstanding natural beauty sitting next to National trust land which is a honey pot for walkers. The area is special as it is not over developed and has easy access to local pubs, restaurants and beaches.

About the Owner

Outside of the available rental periods we live in the main house with our three boys George 15, Harvey, 14 and Ollie 11. We have 3 dogs who love the walks around the coastline it is perfect for them. Kerry and I grew up in the local area. We have both travelled, but love the setting that Wembury Point offers, so when the property came up for auction we could not let it go.

We both work in Plymouth. Kerry teaches at the local primary school and I run my own financial services business as an Independent Financial Adviser.

We are very much a part of the local village community and enjoy and appreciate our special surroundings. We bought our house at auction in 2006 and knocked it down in 2011. Prior to knocking it down we were able to build what is the Annexe so we could live in it while the main build was going on. We fitted it out so it is completely self contained. There is a separate entrance to the Apartment and parking directly outside. If you look at the listing for E1232 you will have the full Annex details. You do not have to rent the Annex alongside the main house but it seems sensible to do that as it really adds to the stay. In the village of Wembury there is a skate park and children's play area. there is also a well constructed safe play area in Down Thomas. We are happy to familiarise you with walks, pubs and places to visit on arrival and some items of equipment e.g. 2 x Kayaks and the Trampoline you can use when you visit.

Fantastic break in a stunning home

  • 5 of 5

Kerry and Glenn provided us with a great place to stay for the 2015/16 New Years break. The house was immaculately presented with comprehensive instructions left for the running of the house which was kitted out with the latest appliances. The kitchen and living area was stunning with a great uninterrupted views to the coast. Easy access to the coast path great for walks , runs and rides plus the odd swim or bit of water sport.

Kerry and Glynn gave us some good tips and info via email in the lead up to our stay and made a great effort to ensure we had a great time and we did. We would certainly return and would have no hesitation in recommending this property, my only reservation is that if too many may get to know about it we may not be able to get in ourselves! Thanks again to the Dunn family.

Matt and friends !

From the Owner

We bought the original property to fulfill our dream of building our own house. My wife and I have grown up in the local area and although we both moved away, we could never really leave. Whilst we put our plans and finances together we lived with our 3 children in the tiny one bedroom bungalow. They were cramped but great days. Living there helped us design the new house to take advantage of the location. We built the Annex first before we knocked the old house down so we had a place to stay during the build. Wyndswaye is the culmination of that and we feel like we are on holiday all of the time. Time moves on and we would like to share our home with our potential guests. Renting it gives us the opportunity to travel and have some time with our sons before they fly our nest. The location of Wembury point is on a peninsular. The only vehicle traffic is that of visiting walkers and the local bus. The mornings and evenings are therefore very quiet and peaceful. What was the old Naval gunnery school has been closed now for over 10 years and has been bought by the National Trust. This was previously owned by the Navy. The National Trust have linked it into the coastal path network and it is a wonderful addition to the local area, especially for walkers. The area is set within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The coast directly below the house is part of the Uk Marine Conservation Programme. There are numerous ornithologists that visit the area to bird watch, the Cirl Bunting being a favorite. Walks will take you to the local villages of Wembury, Heybrook Bay and Down Thomas. There is also a small herd of semi wild Dartmoor Ponies that wonder freely around the point. The local church is very busy with weddings as the setting is outstanding with the famous church overlooking the beach. Wembury has a good surfing break and as i write I can see 6 or 7 surfers in the water. Not sure if I should tell you but the area is good for Bass fishing.

From the Owner

This really is our family home, I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do. The whole feel of the house is homely so we are sure you will fit right in and feel at home yourself. The house has an electric entry gate and Cornish stone wall adjorning the road that I am very proud of. My Dad and I built the wall. There is parking for 5 cars. Ask the kids to find the toy train cemented in the wall. The house has 3 separate roof structures. The main roof is in the shape of a wave, the Annex roof is a Sedum roof and the remaining roof area is flat. The main living space is 10 meters by 7.5 meters. It is a wonderful room and we spend most of our family time there. Cooking is a pleasure as you can face and engage your guests whilst looking out over the sea. When the patio doors are open you add another 4 meters of depth with the balcony. It really brings the outside into your day. The balcony also provides the link from the top floor to the garden. The Garden is fenced so is ideal for dogs and small children. A determined dog (our Working Cocker Ziggy) will always find a way out though if there is a rabbit about. We do have a trampoline and 2 x kayaks in the garden that you can use. Our favourite thing to do is to walk the dogs to one of the local pubs for lunch, you can do this directly from the house along the coastal footpath without the need to get into the car. Yes we do accept dogs.
