Very comfortable cottage with lovely views.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in Ashes Cottage. The house was spacious and most comfortable, a real home from home. The views from all of the rooms, even the loo !! were great. We were extremely lucky with the weather, as this was September, and were able to explore much of the local area. The local pub, the Eagle & Child is good, booking is advised as it gets busy. We were there for the Quiz Night and had a most enjoyable meal followed by the quiz (we didn't win). All in all a very enjoyable holiday. Would most definitely recommend Ashes Cottage.

Fabulous rural escape

  • 4 of 5

Ashes cottage is spacious, comfortable and attractive with fantastic views from every window. We loved the welcome message and thoughtful touches including the sewing kit (which came in handy), torch, DVD'S, board games and local walk guides. There really was everything we needed for our stay, particularly in the kitchen, which I want now at home! Nearby Staveley has a lovely bakery and Wilf's Cafe and a little shop. The location is perfect for accessing the Lake District, we travelled up as far as Keswick and Buttermere and across to the coast, none of which was much more than an hour's drive away. We had some lovely meals and card games in the comfortable dining room and the sofas are deep and all encompassing for relaxing after a days walking.

The cottage is accessed via a short but narrow, walled, windy lane with one passing point which I imagine local people don't give a second thought to (lots of long windy roads in the Lakes!). If you aren't used to them though and you meet the local farmer with his trailer coming the opposite way though it makes for an interesting few minutes! This only happened a couple of times over the week though - phew!

This is a beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location, with thoughtful little touches, a lovely garden and amazing views. We also though it was good value for money and would happily visit again.

Fabulous place

  • 4 of 5

Absolutly beautifully located. The house has a wonderful terrasse where you can relax in the middle of fields and greens. The kitchen is amazingly equipped.

This Trulla is a fife star location if it were 't for the uncomfy matrasses in the twin and master bedroom.

We loved the place.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and the views. I'm sorry you found the mattresses uncomfortable, you are the only people to say this. I will test them out next time I am at the cottage and look into replacements.

Stunning Accommodation & Stunning Views - a little piece of heaven.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is located down a winding lane and is found at the end of the lane with two other cottages. Once inside the cottage you enter into the dining room with a large table and plenty of seating. From there you pass into a small hallway with the kitchen on the left and the lounge on the right. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need for a stay and it has a view to die for - washing dishes was not a chore as you look out onto beautiful fields and lots of sheep!(but there is a dishwasher). The lounge is a double room with cosy wood fires at both ends although of course there is central heating. It looks out onto a terrace which has a large table and chairs for eating outside which overlooks more fields and more sheep. Below is a very pretty garden and small pond.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms, two with large double beds and one with twin beds. Again they are beautifully decorated. There is also a large bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin and toilet.

It's possible to lie in bed and see the fields and sheep. It was such a relaxing and peaceful location and we enjoyed coming 'home' at the end of the day after long walks and visiting the lakes. We would have no reservation in recommending this wonderful property - every care has been taken by the owners to make this a welcoming, comfortable and charming home which you should be very happy to stay in.

Location

From the Owner

We have been visiting Staveley for over 20 years and are delighted to now have our own beautiful property here. Ashes Cottage is a real haven away from the daily grind. As soon as you step out of the car you will notice the fresh mountain air and peace shattered only by the neighbouring sheep. The cottage itself is spacious and comfortable for a family or group to spread out and relax in, whether out on the patio or curled up in front of a log fire. The kitchen is fully equipped for you to cater for yourselves or you can truly have some time off by sampling the local pubs and restaurants in Staveley village, from beer tapas to curries and cakes, there is a great selection only a mile away.

Ashes Cottage is 1 mile outside the pretty village of Staveley with numerous eateries, pubs, a playground, Wheelbase Bike Store and riverside walks. We recommend "More" artisan bakery for delicious pies, cakes and bread, The Eagle and Child Inn for great pub grub and The Hawkshead Brewery for local ales and beer tapas. Pick up the Dales Way footpath minutes from your door and return to a cosy log fire in the evening. Why not drive to Fellfoot Park for lakeside picnics and boat trips or Grizedale Forest for walks along a sculpture trail or adventures in the trees with "Go Ape"!
