This property is tastefully decorated, well-equipped and re-visited often!

RAFTRA COTTAGE is just up the lane a few metres; a tastefully decorated 2-bedroomed artist's home, available to let during holiday periods, & occasionally at other times of the year. It has a sheltered, private sun-trap of a patio and also a small, private lawned garden with fire pit/BBQ.This colourful space is a delightful holiday home for upto 4 people.(Not suitable for dogs or children under 5). Kitchen diner is fully equipped for self-catering, comfy lounge has woodburning stove & underfloor heating for winter breaks, large double bedroom and a twin room, both with deep windowseats looking out over fields to the sea. Colourful bathroom with large bath with shower attachment.

Stunning vaulted ceiling in large open-plan living/dining/kitchen room. Kitchen is a joy to prepare food in, looking out through bi-fold doors spanning the whole of one side, leading out onto sheltered, private patio area & lawned garden with views across fields to the sea. Intimate lounge area with sofas surrounding woodburner. Colourful, bespoke showerroom, and bedroom with very comfy king-sized bed & TV/DVD. Underfloor heating throughout. The perfect place for a really comfortable, treat of a holiday. This is larger & has a higher spec, more luxurious feel than the Barn...which is reflected in the price.

The properties make fabulous bases from which to explore all that West Cornwall has to offer. Some of Cornwall's finest beaches are within walking distance, as are sheltered coves and breathtaking cliff paths.. St Ives, Penzance, Newlyn & Mousehole offer picturesque outings, great meals out, galleries & quirky shops. The Minack Theatre is a couple of minutes drive away. The area also has some of the richest prehistoric heritage anywhere in Europe. And for Poldark lovers it's the area where a lot of the new series was filmed!!

Please note that our properties have a Friday changeover.during the Summer, although we can be more flexible for the Barn in the winter.

About Claire Lucas and Toby Ellison

We (Toby and Claire) bought Raftra Barn & Cottage in 2015, and have spent a lot of time & energy making the properties comfortable and characterful home-from-homes for you to enjoy and unwind in. We have lived in this part of Cornwall for 25 years.... Claire running art classes and being an artist, and Toby initially running the first backpackers hotel in the area at Whitesands Lodge in Sennen, and more recently setting up a Walk & Talk counselling service. We both love the outdoors and have started to plant trees and flowering shrubs in the 4 acre field that is adjacent to the barn.....so it'll be a wildlife haven in years to come.

Claire Lucas and Toby Ellison purchased this barn in 2015

Why Claire Lucas and Toby Ellison chose Saint Levan

We love this place. It is relatively isolated, yet in such a friendly neighbourhood. Out of season you can walk for miles along the coast path and visit hidden coves without seeing a soul. And in the warmer months, although the area is busier, you can still find quiet spots to spend the day, overlooking turquoise bays that make you feel like you're in the Mediterranean!

With fantastic scenery, unspoilt wild places with an abundance of wildlife....both on land and in the sea.....along with ancient sacred sites, pilgrim routes and a rich art scene...what more could we want?!

What makes this barn unique

Sheltered gardens trap the sun all day, and look out over a field towards the sea....there are even sometimes deer grazing here. Swallows swoop over the property all spring and summer, and skylarks fill the air with their song. We have owls at night, & badger tracks all over the place. And in the winter we have a murmuration of starlings. We are right near the crossroads of several ancient footpaths leading to wonderful hidden coves, turquoise beaches, magnificent cliffs and wild moors.

nowhere better to feel the spirit of Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

New feel with design integrity and superb location. We loved the place and wished we had longer. Beautiful coast line within easy reach with exhilarating cliff walks and superb scenery. Toby and Claire made us very welcome and remained available but unassumingly so (much respect for their passion and detailed local knowledge). You could drive from here and discover beaches and pubs etc easily or just enjoy the new property, aptly named 'The Bolt Hole', with classy touches and well crafted interior. Tempting to stay put and enjoy the large terrace, facing west with distant sea view and great chilling potential! Cooking here was a joy (superb fish and seafood within easy reach) and dining at that wonderful table was memorable. Good sleeps and awakening to peace and lovely views was a treat and worked a magic, surpassing our expectations of this wonderful place. Highly recommended and doubtless will be in much demand as word spreads. They've got a smaller place too which looked cosy and a bit cheaper...

Owner's Response: What lovely first guests in The Bolt Hole; it is well and truly christened....let's hope we get lots of bookings for the summer so we can introduce more people to the beauty and magic of this far tip of Cornwall!

Three beautiful days that we'll always remember.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous 3 nights in this beautiful house. We arrived after dark, so had a wonderful surprise in the morning to see the view from the living room.....the photo's don't do it justice! The house was super comfortable & had everything we needed. Being our first trip to this part of Cornwall we didn't know the area, but Claire and Toby were very helpful suggesting places to eat and some really lovely walks, some right from the house... our top tip would be The Minack Theatre, an amazing amphitheatre set into the cliffs just a half hour walk away... the wildlife is abundant; so many birds, seals, stunning cliffs and moorland, and fields full of daffodils. We really recommend this place... we'll definitely be back!

Magical place!

  • 5 of 5

A tastefully decorated and well kitted out home from home. Very spacious for the 2 of us, yet also really cosy. We loved the woodburning stove and the underfloor heating was such a treat. Absolutely gorgeous views across the fields to the sea. The house had everything we needed to be completely self-sufficient for our entire stay. Plus a very comfy bed! We found the friendly pub up the road, and stunning walks along the coast path just a few minutes walk away. Amazing night skies..... we have never seen so many stars! We will definitely return.

Thank you for our unforgettable stay.

Beautiful barn and fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

Raftra barn is a lovely place to stay in a superb location. We were extremely fortunate to have such a glorious week! The views from the barn were so beautiful, so quiet and relaxing. It's just what we are needed.

It was lovely to meet the owner. Claire was very helpful, and it was reassuring to know we could contact Claire at any time.

We can't wait until our next visit!

Cosy hideaway

  • 4 of 5

Nicely furnished cottage, perfect for our puppy's first holiday away with us. Lovely secure private patio area where the dog could be outside without worrying she was going to escape. Lots of places to visit nearby and walks direct from the cottage without having to take the car. The Cove at the bottom of the road lovely and has cafe for a treat before heading back up.

Ideal base for the far west

  • 4 of 5

Peaceful location, and lovely quiet patio with sun most of the day. Good to have a decent sized shower, but a tad more space in the bedroom would have been useful - but it is only for sleeping in!

Only about 10 minutes from Porthcurno beach and the Minack Theatre, and within easy reach of Sennen.

Sennen Cove is 4 or 5 minute’s drive away, over a mile of sandy beach plus lifeguards.

Pedn, at Treen, is a nudist beach, 5 minute's drive to the car park at Treen then a bit of a hike along pretty coastpath and down steep cliff path.
