Overview

About the property

An amazing conversion of an old Police building into a luxury apartment

From the outside this is an imposing building with a rich history of accommodating officers of French law, but as you step into the beautiful reception area, be prepared for a surprise.

This two bedroom apartment is very spacious with king, queen or twin beds, well-equipped kitchen and large bathroom. Outside there's a private balcony and shared used of the large pool - with a shallow end of children

No expense has been spared and as you'll see from the photos, the result is extremely successful. The style throughout the building is comfortable, modern and uncluttered. There is incredible attention to detail and where possible, the original features of the building have been retained and incorporated in the new design.

One of the biggest surprises is to find such a large pool area, hidden from view of the village. Again take a look at the photos to get an idea of the great views and privacy of this property.

The Region: The winding roads of the Luberon, with spectacular views, are great to explore and you'll find loads of picturesque villages (Gordes, Menerbes, Maubec) on the doorstep.

Just a short drive away there's a great Sunday morning market at Coustellet and the larger town of Apt is only 15 minutes away.

There's loads to do and see in the area; St Remy-de-Provence, famous for its Roman architecture, Les Baux with its ruined castle and unique rock formations, L'Isle sur la Sorgue, famous as an antique centre and market. Also within easy reach are Pont du Gard, Avignon with the Palace of the Popes, Marseille with its famous waterfront, the Amphitheatre at Nimes and the cultured avenues of Aix-en-Provence.

If activity is your thing, this area is perfect for climbing, cycling, mountain biking, trekking, golf, tennis and swimming.

The Village: The village of Bonnieux has a rich and varied history and is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the Luberon.

In summer the village is really popular and therefore has some great restaurants and cafés. Although not very big, it has some useful and interesting shops, including bakers, butchers, grocery, pharmacy, post office and tourist information centre. There's also a local market on a Friday.

Full directions, etc will be sent once you make a booking.

A large pool and private balcony

Wifi and parking

What makes this apartment unique

Excellent, wonderful location in the town and representative of the architecture. Pool could have been warmer but kids still loved it anyway. Providing a tea towel would have been handy, but we came prepared.

Dr F, Australia, Sept 2017

Mr M, France, August 2017

We love the property so much and the holiday experience it provides us with, that we will be returning for a 5th time in the near future, hopefully. It should also be noted that Christian, the new caretaker since the very capable Claude retired to pursue other interests, is doing a fantastic job. Extremely helpful and doing a fantastic job of looking after the guests needs.

Mrs T, UK, June 2017

Great proximity to the village, parking guaranteed and the pool and on this occasion we had the services of Christian who was excellent.

Ms D, Belfast, June 2017

We stayed off season for six weeks and it was an excellent choice, as it is in the centre of the year round village, and has well chosen liveable accommodation. We would recommend it to anyone.

Mr R, London, October 2016

The accommodation was very comfortable and superbly located in gorgeous Bonnieux and easily accessible to other villages in the Luberon region. We would highly recommend Joie de Vivre and The Old Gendarmerie

Mr K, Australia, Sept 2016

We absolutely loved our time in bonnieux. The old gendarmerie was perfect and exceptional value for money, thank you. Mr C, July 2016

Lovely appartemente and well equipped. Being greeted with a bottle of Rose; is a nice touch :-)

Mrs E, Frankfurt, Germany, June 2016

Guestbook comments from the manager

Even though the weather was not as good as we’ve previously enjoyed, it didn’t dampen our spirits! Pac-a-Macs and brollies would have been more use than flip flops and Panama’s. On the wettest day we sat under the verandah in our warmest clothes, drinking tea and watching the storm roll in. We even got to see the Fontaine de Vaclause in full force which was very impressive.

Thank you again for creating such a special place and Christian is continuing to be a great help and the whole place is looking great with the flowers and planters filled.

We shall of course return.

Breath taking Bonnieux and appartment

  • 5 of 5

The appartment was everything and more than expected. It had the feel of Provence through and through. The situation in the village was great. Handy for everything including a mid afternoon stroll from the pool side to the ice cream parlour. It was just fantastic

Fabulous get-away!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely apartment - comfortable, quiet, well-furnished, and a great lay-out - with a nice deck for breakfasts and relaxing in the evening. The pool was just as pictured. Bonnieux is charming, very walkable hill town - a variety of restaurants, bakeries, small grocery store, ATM, and two ice cream shops.

Wonderful respite in Bonnieux

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect with plenty of room for two couples. Best of all was a secured parking space in a tiny town with narrow streets. Close to everything in Provence, good roads and signage. Bonnieux has many restaurants in walking distance of tge apartment, small markets and a fabulous boulangerie for your morning croissant abd baguette.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your lovely comments. Bonnieux is a very special place in Provence and we have many repeat guests - people seem to be drawn back to the historic village, restaurants and market. I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed the apartment. It ticks many boxes as it has a pool, great views, parking and is a short walk from the village centre. We'd love to hear from you again if you get the chance to re-visit the Luberon.

Great apartment in a perfect location

  • 4 of 5

Our second stay in the Old Gendarmerie, and we enjoyed it every bit as much as the first. It's so convenient to be able to walk to the bakery, butcher and mini-supermarket in a couple of minutes, no need to use the car. The kitchenette is quite basic, but adequate for breakfast and lunch (which we usually had on the balcony), and Bonnieux has loads of places to eat out. The pool is a decent size, and there are plenty of chairs and loungers, and shade if you need it (we did!). We have booked through Joie de Vivre several times, and they are a pleasure to deal with.
