Lowood is close to Exmoor National Park and set in 4.5 acres of beautiful grounds where swifts, owls and kingfishers flourish, and the river is home to ducks, otters and fish. This vacation rental in southwest England is a wonderful place to stay for your getaway. Lowood is located in the county of Somerset, on the edge of Exmoor , with the dramatic coastline 3 miles from the house. Also nearby is Dunster Castle, the West Somerset Steam Railway and Watchet's picturesque harbour. Visitors can explore the pretty village of Porlock, Porlock Weir and its small harbour. The delightful resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth, towns linked by a unique cliff railway, are a short trip from Lowood.

Exmoor national park offers a number of activities for all ages, walking, riding, cycling, stargazing, exploring, rock pooling, picnicking, discovering, canoeing, sea kayaking, fishing, climbing, game shooting...the list is endless and right on your doorstep.

Why Tracy Halliwell chose West Somerset

Lowood is an old 1823 farmhouse set in 4.5 acres of well maintained garden and fields, with a river running along the fields. Both of us fell in love with this house straight away. It combines personal comfort with space. Our kids spend hours playing outside on the climbing frame, croquet, badminton, paddling in the river and so on. The wooded area houses a lot of local flora and fauna, providing much for adults and children to explore. The local environs contain everything anyone could wish for, from the most sedentary to the most active. The house itself is on the edge of Roadwater, so although we are on the edge of the village, it feels like we're in the middle of the country, a perfect balance.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The unique benefits of this property are 4 acres of garden/field, access to 200m of the Washford river to paddle in (it's only about 2 feet deep).

This is an excellent property for a family, a large house in extensive grounds, in a great region.

We celebrated an eightieth birthday, eleven adults, four great grandchildren and three dogs. Hearty eating, Aga roasts, big breakfasts and plenty of celebratory drinks. The house was large enough for everyone to have space but also to gather all in one room for meals.

The grounds are interesting and the location is close to the sea and countryside, with the heart of Exmoor a short drive away.

Tracy made it easy and we wanted for nothing. It is an excellent hose for a big gathering.

Wonderful house with enough space for 5 families!

Lowood is a beautiful house full of character with lovely gardens in a great location. 5 double bedrooms gave all the parents in our gang a room of their own, and the two adjoining bedrooms upstairs became the girls dorm and the second living room downstairs, with the addition of the z-beds, became the boys dorm. The dining table took 18 of us and we squeezed in the little kitchen table so we all ate together, which was really special. Comfortable beds, cosy wood burner and very well-equipped kitchen (kitchens - there are 3!) made for a very relaxing and luxurious stay. And to top it off, fantastic walks over Exmoor from the front door (and beaches with fossils a quick drive away). We will be back!

A wonderful house for our party of 14 adults and children.

We loved the jungle room. Having two sitting rooms meant we could be all together or in different groups. Play equipment in the garden was a bonus. The big dining table seated us all in comfort. The number of bathrooms exceptionally helpful for a large party. The number of kitchens meant serving Christmas dinner for 14 was stress-free!

Great house, Loads of space!

We had a great weekend at Lowood even with 10 adults and 9 children it didn't seem crowded. Everything we needed was there, even managed to cook a pre Christmas roast for everyone.

Lovely character property

We had a great weekend at Lowood. Lovely big house with bundles of character. The children loved exploring around the house and enjoyed the loft space of the Jungle room. The kitchen was well eqipped and the beds were comfortable. The owner was also very felxible and accomodating. Would definatly go back to Lowood.

Lovely property, comfortable whilst also well appointed.

The 3 kitchens were very handy for our large group, with plenty of equipment to cater for the 18 of us. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable. The garden and games equipment were also entertaining for the children.

Plenty to do nearby, Dunster and Wells are worth a visit.
