The Cornerhouse has recently been refurbished to a high standard with quality fittings and furnishings, whilst retaining numerous character features, including oak beams throughout and stone floors in the kitchen. FREE WiFi included.

DINING KITCHEN: The cream wooden bespoke dining kitchen is cosy and well equipped, with duel fuel AGA, with a griddle, luxury AEG Lavazza Pod Coffee machine,oiled oak worktops, Belfast sink, combi microwave, Dualit toaster & kettle, full sized fridge freezer, integrated dishwasher, plus Ercol dining furniture for 6 people.

FIREPLACE & SITTING ROOM: An original grit-stone fireplace houses a log burner in the sitting room, which has comfortable sofas for 6 people, a flat screen TV, Blu Ray DVD player and a cupboard with board games, DVDs for those evenings in after a day's walking in The Peak District or trying the numerous cafes, pubs and restaurants in Tideswell right on your doorstep.

STORAGE & LAUNDRY Facilities: Additional storage is provided in a traditional walk in larder and a cellar with a washing machine and tumble dryer for guests' use.

WELCOME HAMPER INCLUDED : We provide a welcome hamper, which includes many local products from village independent shops, including bread, milk and butter,tea and coffee to make that first cuppa and a snack after a long journey on arrival and your first breakfast if you arrive late and shops are closed after 10pm.

DOG WELCOME PACK: For your dog we include a welcome pack including treats,doggy bags, bowls , dog towels for muddy paws and even a dog bed.

You can exercise dogs in the Churchyard along the public footpath going

straight from the front door of The Cornerhouse through the churchyard

gardens and up past the Community Gardens to Alma Road near the local

Primary School .

Please note,there is no direct access from the front door directly into the

garden for dogs and children so please take care as vehicles occasionally use the little lane by the Cornerhouse to get to the Preschool and Church.

PARKING: Free parking is available on the streets in the village .

About Nikki and John Turton

Bringing up a family, working in Engineering and Mid Life Career Coaching, we decided on a complete change discovering a new phase in our lives after the boys grew up and left home.

We enjoy village life, old properties and walking in beautiful surroundings with our golden retriever. Now we also have more time to spend with wider family, visit historic places and theatres and try activties such as dry stone wall building in our garden..

We are available to help with anything you might wish to know both before and during your stay.

Visiting and holidaying in the area for over 35 years with our family, friends and dogs, we were delighted when we discovered this characterful property, The Corner House in Tideswell. Old beams, log fire,stone floors, quirky corners, larder and cellar. Centrally-placed in the village, next to historic buildings, this house allows for a car free walking and cycling base in the Peak District National Park. We have family links to Sheffield, Bakewell and Buxton and appreciate what the Peak District has to offer for all ages.

Just perfect!

We had a wonderful stay in Tideswell at the Corner House. It's a beautiful cottage, in an amazing location, right next to the cathedral. We were travelling with our two young children, and this house is just perfect for families. The owners have thought of everything. The welcome hamper was filled with goodies from the local shops (and were delicious). The kitchen is well equipped (with a fantastic coffee maker). The beds were comfortable, there were plenty of towels, and even a wonderful selection of children's books and games to keep us entertained. The cottage has tons of charm, with exposed beams, stone floors, and beautiful details in all the rooms. If we ever find ourselves back in the Peaks, we'll be sure to stay again.

Cosy, well equipped house in a great location

We stayed here with family and had a great few days. The kitchen is so well equipped and the local butcher/grocer/co-op had such great meat/veg/wine that we decided to cook for 2 of the 3 nights we were here and had fab fish n chips on the 3rd night!! The wood burner is great and just added to the cosy feel of the property. We stayed in the master bedroom on 1st floor which was huge and had really good quality bedding and furnishings. Bathrooms were modern. The welcome hamper was much appreciated and a lovely touch. thanks Nikki

Fabulous House, Great Location

We spent a delightful month in The Corner House. It's a beautiful cottage with lots character and charm plus everything you need for a very comfortable stay. The kitchen is very well equipped which allowed us to eat in when we wanted. The two main bed rooms are a very generous size with big comfortable beds. The location in the centre of Tideswell is perfect, just as short stroll to good little supermarket, bakery and butcher. There's a good choice of pubs nearby and Nelly's Cafe is a real standout for breakfast lunch and coffee. Car parking is very easy out on the streets. Then there's the Peak District which is simply stunning.

Nikki and John are wonderful hosts. Apart from providing a great house, they were extremely welcoming and helpful with any questions we had. They provided lots of local information about restaurants, shops, pubs and walks, all of which we put to good use.

Lovely cottage in an excellent location

We spent a week in this lovely cottage and thoroughly recommend it. Everything we needed was supplied, the beds were comfortable and the water always hot! There are several lovely walks from the village and many more walks and mountain bike trails within easy reach. There are pubs, cafes and shops in the village and we appreciated the hamper of local produce left by Nikki and John.

Idyllic Cottage

We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed with another couple and our black labrador 'Buzz'. The cottage was well located with all the amenities. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could possibly need.

The beds were comfortable and everything was spotless. Thoroughly recommend.

Beautiful Cottage, Beautiful Village, Beautiful Area

We stayed at The Cornerhouse with 2 small children (7 & 9) and had a wonderful time. There was a great welcome basket packed with local goodies for us to try, comfy beds and wonderful shower! Wood burner plus logs not needed! Tideswell is a really pretty and interesting village with good shops and a lovely atmosphere, and is very central for walking or visiting local attractions - the children liked Bolsover Castle (45 mins) and the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton (25 mins) best. We liked the fabulous countryside and tea rooms. Only slight issue with our autistic grandson was the church bells so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper - the rest of us slept through! Will definitely return.

Cornerhouse is situated in Tideswell village centre, in the heart of The Peak District, between the Dark Peak and White Peak. The surrounding countryside provides opportunities for walking, cycling, mountain biking and rock climbing to name but a few of the vast range of outdoor activites available. Walk directly from the cottage doorstep and simply enjoy the breathtaking scenery and glorious sunsets.

On your doorstep through winding paths are wonderful local shops, a bakery, a butcher, delicatessens, Post Office, and dog friendly pubs and cafés, all serving homemade local produce including local real ales. You can access walks from Tideswell village centre to experience panoramic Peak District views.

Tideswell is a little gem in the countryside, centrally located on main scenic routes through the Peak District National Park, only a short drive or bus journey to the main attractions of Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Buxton, and many more.

The village has an interesting history that can be discovered by visiting the Cathedral of the Peak, the History ‘phone box’, following the Tideswell Hidden histories trail, and talking to the friendly locals of the village.

Ask most people what they know about Bakewell and it’s surely the Bakewell pudding. Bakewell is a very popular tourist attraction and its streets are busy whatever time of year.

Bakewell was granted its market charter in 1254. With a population of around 4000, known locally as the “Capital of the Peak” the town lies approximately 7 miles and about 15 minutes drive from Cornerhouse, Tideswell. Regular bus routes link directly between Tideswell and Bakewell meaning you can leave your car at home for the day out.

The annual Bakewell Show held in August is one of the largest events locally and one of the oldest Agricultural shows in the UK. Weekly markets on Mondays, Bakewell Farmers markets, established for over 700 years, held on the first Saturday of the month, lanes, shopping arcades to explore, walks along the river bank to watch the ducks and trout swimming, tea rooms and The famous Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, plus Christmas Market will offer you an exciting day out.

Chatsworth is approximately 10 miles and a 20 minute drive from Corner house in Tideswell. Chatsworth, known as the “Palace of The Peak” is one of Britain’s most visited stately homes. It has glorious grounds and deer parks to walk through, cafes, restaurants to try, adventure playgrounds for kids and a farm shop to browse.

Chatsworth is an historic house family home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and has been a film location for several films and documentaries including Pride & Prejudice and Death comes to Pemberley.

Edensor (pronounced Enza) is a village in Derbyshire is the closest village to Chatsworth House and much of it belongs to the Dukes of Devonshire. Originally the village was close to the River Derwent immediately below Chatsworth, but between 1838 and 1842, the 6th duke of Devonshire had it moved out of sight over a hill, apart from one cottage whose tenant did not want to move, which still stands in Chatsworth Park.

Try the small café which can be found in the old Post Office in Edensor, serving delicious homemade lunches, cakes, coffees and teas.

Buxton was built as a Spa town and is situated at a higher altitude than and approximately 7 miles and about 15 minutes drive from Cornerhouse, Tideswell. Regular bus routes link directly between Tideswell and Buxton if you want to leave your car at home.

Buxton was modelled on Bath and Cheltenham with its elegant sweeping semi-circle of The Crescent designed by John Carr of York built in 1784. Buxton is now a small market town with shops to explore and having cultural experiences at Buxton Opera House and Arts Centre, beautiful 23 acres of Pavilion Gardens in the heart of the town to walk through and a large dome which is now part of the University of Derbyshire to explore.

St Anne’s well is still a source of the famous waters and you can see local people queuing up to fill containers with the tepid water.

Weekly markets, shopping arcades to explore, Well Dressing ceremonies, Christmas market and festivals will tempt you from Tideswell.

In the Peak District there is an unrivalled range of walking and cycling available. From gentle riverside such as the local Tideswell Dales or on one of the Railway trails, to tough Moorland treks across some of the most challenging walking country in Britain on those northern access moors. Few places in Britain have such an infinite variety of walking opportunities in such a small area. Cornerhouse is centrally located in the Peak District making it an ideal base to explore walks and cycle ways.

To get away from the crowds in the 555 square-mile National Park there is an unrivalled network of around 1,400 miles of public rights of way, plus easy leisure routes such as the local Monsal Trail which has been developed from derelict railway lines.
