A Happy House in Margate

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Dec-2016
The Anchorage is a 1930s house, located right in the heart of Margate.

The Anchorage is a newly refurbished 3 storey 1930s house, located right in the heart of Margate's Old Town and a 2 minute walk to Margate Sands and Marine Drive. The house is able to accommodate 6 people comfortably and there is also a double sofa bed in the lounge. Families, couples and friends are all welcome. Well behaved doggies are also welcome to savour the delights of the doggie treats on offer. The accommodation is modern & contemporary, furnished with items from the local area.

The downstairs of the property is open plan leading from the lounge to the dining room and utility room then through to the kitchen diner with bifold doors opening onto the backyard complete with seating area and BBQ for sunny days. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs, one with a kingsize bed, one with a double bed and one with two single beds. There is a double sofa bed in the lounge (sorry no bedding provided for sofa bed).

There is one large bathroom with separate bath and walk in shower.

Well behaved dogs are welcome in the downstairs area of the property. We have one large plastic dog bed, please bring your pups own blankets.

Guest Access

Full Access to the house and backyard is provided.

Interaction with Guests

We will be available on mobiles and can provide a local contact in the event of emergency.

The Neighbourhood

The original seaside town offers easy access to beautiful sandy beaches, coastal walks, cycling, water sports, beautiful parks and gardens, museums, theatres, art galleries, first class restaurants and exciting night-life.

The Anchorage is located in Margate's historic Old Town, home to galleries, retro furniture and gift shops, restaurants and cafes. The Turner Contemporary is located within a 10 minute stroll, as is the newly re-opened Dreamland theme park.

Getting Around

By Bus:

We are fortunate enough to have an excellent bus system in Thanet. Our comprehensive routes enable you to make the most of your visit by reducing journey times between each town and village.

‘The Thanet Loop’ is one of the most frequent services in the UK, running on average every 7 minutes and operates 7 days a week, from early morning until late evening. This service provides excellent connections between Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate, and also to Westwood Cross shopping and leisure complex.

The Bus stop for The Loop Bus is located outside the Thanet District Council on Cecil Street, just a few minutes walk from the Anchorage. The bus can be caught in both directions. Ask the driver which side of the road most suits your journey.

Other bus services offered by Stagecoach will enable easy access to the villages. The number 8 bus provides excellent links from Thanet to the nearby city of Canterbury.

A ‘Dayrider' ticket is ideal for exploring the area, allowing you to hop-on or hop-off at any point, without limits and on any Stagecoach bus in Thanet.

Please contact Stagecoach for more (website hidden)

By Train:

All stations in Thanet are served by the same line, making train travel between each point simple and quick. Stations are found in the main towns- Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate as well as Minster, Birchington, Westgate and Dumpton.

By Foot/Bicycle

We have an excellent coastal route which connects each part of Thanet. The Viking Coastal Trail is a 32 mile route, but you can pick and choose which parts to follow. Two thirds of the route is off-road so ideal for family walks or rides and the route is also signed throughout for convenience. Maps are available from the Thanet Visitor Information Centre in Margate without charge.

Cycle Hire

Ken’s Bikes: 26 Eaton Road, Margate. CT9 1XA. (phone number hidden).

Other Things to Note

Key access is gained through booking confirmation.

This is a non-smoking property.

Dogs welcome to stay but are not permitted upstairs.

Lovely 1920 house, very well furnished and well supplied with essentials. Good position in Old Town!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at the Anchorage. It is very spacious and airy, tastefully furnished and the owners have supplied essentials like loo rolls and bin bags and - most impressive of all - spare light bulbs! Very clean and good quality linen and towels. Great family house. It is ideally situated for interesting shops, lots of places to eat and the beach. We would like to visit Margate again and would definitely book this house again. Thanks Kish and Fiona.

A lovely house in a great part of Margate. Had never visited Margate before but would recommend it-.

  • 4 of 5

The house is beautifully decorated with good facilities and a lovely outdoor sitting area. Would definitely recommend. The only drawback is the lack of designated parking. We parked in a nearby car park which involved a bit of a walk and it added to the cost of the holiday. A provided parking permit would have helped.

Owner's Response: Thank you, we are glad you enjoyed your stay! There are four free parking spaces in the layby opposite the house. It would be good if Margate council offered parking permits for the rest of New Street but unfortunately they do not. However, there are other roads within 5 mins walk away where parking is free.

Great time

  • 5 of 5
