Brookwood, built in 1904, is one half of a substantial Edwardian property; which has been lovingly and sympathetically renovated by the owner, who lives next door. The house retains many of the period features, with high ceilings, large and very spacious rooms and sash windows. It is maintained, equipped and cleaned to high standard. It is ideally situated at the corner of a quiet residential private drive, with Lake Windermere and town center within easy walking distance.

About the Owner

I was born and brought up just outside Windermere, with my family being local to the area for many, many generations. I have been letting Brookwood for holidays since 2008 and take pride in the fact that I provide an ideal venue and location from which to enjoy the beautiful Lake District.

Beautiful cottage. We were so impressed with every aspect of this lovely cottage. It was our first time in the Lake District and we will definitely return. The cottage is spotless and very well equipped. The position was perfect as its only a short walk into town with the beautiful views of lake Windermere. Ruth the owner is so helpful and gave us tips on where to go etc. Would recommend this cottage for sure.

Fantastic!

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely family holiday at Brookwood in the May half term. The property was as described and it was spacious, warm, well equipped and a very good location. Our first visit to the Lake District and we received a warm welcome from the owner who was able to answer any questions we asked. The house had really good sized rooms and it felt very homely with a pretty garden which we made use of because the weather was amazing for that time of year. Lots of useful information provided at the house for walks you can do including one from the house. A great introduction to the Lake District and we shall definitely be back.

Stunning!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed twice now at this property and love it. The location is amazing, literally a 5 min walk down to the centre of Bowness, the house is spacious, clean and is like home from home. I stayed there with my family for my 60th and we have now just booked to go back a 3rd time. Would recommend to everyone. Nothing I would change.

Lovely place to stay

  • 4 of 5

House is lovely and comfortable with lots of character in a perfect location - nice and quiet but only a very short walk away from lovely restaurants/bars, the lake/boats and all the attractions around the lake. We did not really need the car. Nice modern bathrooms, lovely comfortable beds and fragrant crisp bedding. Friendly and helpful owner.

Fantastic Location

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th annual visit to Brookwood Cottage. We have stayed at many cottages in the lake district, but the location of this very comfortable traditional cottage is difficult to beat.

The cottage is within easy walking distance of Bowness which is the jewel in the centre of the lake district, with all facilities including restaurants, cosy real ale pubs, cafes, convenience shops and even a boat service to places such as Ambleside.

Extensive walks are available within easy reach from the property without the need to drive at all. Try a walk to the ferry crossing windermere then a walk to Hawkshead or walk over the hills to Windermere town.

We find it very easy to park the car in the drive at the start of the break and to forget about it until its sadly time to leave.

The well maintained garden is secluded and surrounded by high hedges, which provide an excellent wind break and sun trap in which to enjoy a good book.

The cottage is well maintained and clean with all of the facilities that you will need and the friendly owner is on hand near by if you need assistance.

We are already looking forward to our next visit. If you get chance, visit the local italian Villa Positano, which is a short walk from the cottage, but make sure that you book in advance.

We can't wait to return!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our holiday in the beatiful Bowness-On-Windermere, the best part of it was staying in the stunning Lake District holiday cottage.

Brookwood is immaculate and homely with stunning scenic views. The location is ideal for beautiful countryside walks in the fells or lakeside strolls. Restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops are within easy walking distance in Bowness or neighbouring Windermere.

The cottage was cleaned to a high standard. It was fully equiped with a great kitchen fir self catering, 3 good sized bedrooms with breath taking views and a tranquil garden to enjoy the great fresh air.

The owner of the property was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with through the booking process and during our stay.

We have already recommended Brookwood to friends and cannot wait to return ourselves. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
