Perfectly located close to many of the Lakes District’s top attractions yet set back to offer a tranquil stay.

Sitting in a slightly elevated position with views out over Loghrigg fell, this property offers the best of both worlds: Ambleside village, with its pubs, restaurants and shops and the attractive, undulating landscape of fells and beautiful Rydal Water.

Within easy reach of the popular village of Grasmere (3 miles) or the bustling Windermere. For the kids there is the Beatrix Potter exhibition with 2016 marking the 150th anniversary.

Dora's Field is a semi-open woodland, renowned for fine displays of bluebells and daffodils, was once owned by William Wordsworth.

Just a short walk from Ambleside you’ll find Stagshaw Gardens, an informal woodland garden which in the spring and summer bursts into life with an absolute blaze of colour and wonderful scents.

Bridge House stands over Stock Beck in the middle of Ambleside as a quirky reminder of Ambleside’s past; it is a 17th-century survivor.

Explore a quirky farmhouse with an even quirkier family at Townend, a 17th century farmhouse The Brownes were just an ordinary family of farmers, living in Troutbeck near Windermere, but their quirky home at Townend and their belongings bring to life over 400 years of extraordinary stories and characters

There are excellent walking opportunities amidst beautiful, unspoilt countryside there are dozens of walks from the door step with the Fairfield Horseshoe providing a good days walk for the more adventurous.

Alternatively get the steamer down the lake to visit other villages or walking on the the shores of lake Windermere (10 miles long). Or simply chug to the Lakes Aquarium at Lakeside which takes a look at the marine life of Lake Windermere. You can combine this with the ferry to Fell Foot where you can hire rowing boats or sailing craft, simply swim or picnic by the shore or let the young ones loose on the adventure playground.

While over to the west lies Coniston Water, and in between there’s Grizedale Forest. A day out in itself for walking or mountain biking or tackling the impressive ‘Go Ape’ high ropes course. Beyond this lies the central massif of the Langdales for some high level walking and climbing.

So if you want to walk, cycle, sail climb, ride, explore, fly or cruise this unique area has an abundance of woodland walks as well as fell walking, coastal walks, cycle paths and quiet leafy lanes to explore or you can name your adrenaline rush and you’ll find it!

Alternatively just relax on thesunny balcony and watch the world go by.

About Lesley Stevens

Lesley & Chris are from Holmfirth in Yorkshire.

Our three children are all now adults following their own dreams, so we can now manage to spend more time traveling the world!

Food and holidays are our passion - a great reason to spend time in Ambleside - so many great restaurants available without needing to drive!!

Lesley Stevens purchased this apartment in 2015

Why Lesley Stevens chose Windermere & Central Lakes

We have rented this apartment many times over the past 15 years, from Susan - the previous owner, who is a very special & close friend of ours, and jumped at the chance to buy it when it became available this year. We too have loved the area all our lives and feel central Ambleside is one of the best parts. We hope to continue sharing this luxury with past and future guests and promise to maintain the high standards & reputation that Susan has built up.

What makes this apartment unique

Undoubtedly, the views... and light flooding in... and sitting on the balcony with a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. We love visiting the cinemas in Ambleside and enjoying the fabulous food on offer within a short walk of the apartment.

To be able to go on some lovely walks without the need of going in the car first is fantastic.

There are some great walks including pubs en route. Such as the mortal man. For the more ambitious the Fairfield Horseshoe.

Walk or drive over to clappersgate and walk along the river. Or walk down to the park and then along the river.

Stagshaw gardens a few yards down the road is fabulous for its rhodendruns and woodland garden

Rydal water is a short walk away and one of the most beautiful views in the lakes

Blackwell is one of Britain's finest Arts & Crafts historic houses. Located in the Lake District, south of Bowness, Cumbria with views over Windermere.

Fabulous apartment in the heart of Ambleside within close reach of shops pubs restaurants etc

  • 5 of 5

No expense spared to make my stay feel special. The whole experience from first enquiry has been welcoming and friendly. Love the little luggage labels dotted about with nice messages especially the 'drink and enjoy' on the bottle of good red wine! I arrived to this warm luxurious oasis in torrential rain and snow and could have been happy if it stayed that way, the apartment with pool and views is fit for all weathers, but the sun came out and Spring arrived so the balcony came in very useful! After walking the fells I was so grateful to enter the rainforest shower before sleeping sound in the massive bed. This has been a holiday home I will not forget and I'm sure I will use again. Very big thank you 👍

Lovely apartment

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a week at this lovely apartment. Stunning views and beautifully furnished. We only used the car once, there are so many walks from the door. Apartment was very warm and cosy to return to after a day out. Everything is provided, including great fluffy towels and lovely bedding. We hope to return later in the year and enjoy sitting on the balcony. Thank you Lesley for your very prompt replies regarding the booking. You have an apartment to be proud of!

Ambleside is a vibrant little town at the Northern end of Lake Windermere. Many great little bars, restaurants - characterful places to eat and drink and catering for all tastes. Independently owned shops and galleries fill the streets and are a pleasure to shop in. Ambleside even has it's own cinema and restaurant and always the backdrop of the magnificent fells which surround the town. Underhill is centrally situated, you can spend a week walking in beautiful countryside, in any direction, without using your car at all, if you wish.

Or travel the passes amongst the hills and valleys and lakes in one of the most spectacular parts of England.

Use of the onsite pool can be arranged on arrival directly with Reception. The centre of Ambleside and a host of lovely restaurants and three cinemas, is a short 5 minute walk away - either down steps or a slope. It is quite a steep walk, but the road is a lot more gentle.
