Heated Pool, set in 5 acres, large garden, dog friendly

Overview

Property

Updated: 28-Nov-2016
Colonial Style Thatched Cottage, heated pool, set in 5 acres, dog friendly

Lodge cottage is a beautiful thatched holiday home with access to a heated outdoor swimming pool and a large garden set in the 5 acre picturesque grounds of Hacheston Lodge near the Suffolk Hertiage Coast. It is a detached colonial style house, with a balcony and verandah offering accommodation for 5-6 people. The pool is open (morning and evening) from the beginning of May to the end of September. The cottage has a spacious and light first floor sitting room / dining room with French windows opening onto the south west facing balcony - a wonderful place to sit on a warm summer's evening. The three bedrooms are on the ground floor below. In addition to the verandah and balcony, guests have exclusive use of a large grassed garden. Fabulous Dog Friendly Holiday Cottage & Grounds

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Brian & Georgia for the lovely welcome pack & help throughout our stay. The layout of this lovely cosy Cottage is Fab & has everything you could wish for. The beds were so comfy, we all enjoyed a few well earned lie-in's! The pool was lovely and warm, a real bonus to our holiday.

We loved the utility room for our 2 Miniature Schnauzers Abe & Eve. The grounds & the path through to the park was our absolute favourite. The dogs were in heaven weaving in & out of the trees, chasing the rabbits & squirrels and of course saying hello to Bear on the odd occasion. Mum (80yrs old this year) thought she was in heaven too strolling around the lovely grounds.

This is our first time in Suffolk. We were amazed how dog friendly it is & thoroughly enjoyed eating out in some of the Cafe's & Pubs nearby. Their is so much to do & see; thanks to the help of all the maps, books & tourist information provided.

Our family & doggies would never forgive us, if we didn't return & a perfect excuse for Hubby to bring his bike again for some more fabulous rides in this beautiful countryside!

We will definitely be booking for 2017 & hopefully a few more years to come. See you soon.

Fantastic property and brilliant hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous holiday in this quirky upside down (Bedrooms downstairs) property. The owners were very helpful and welcoming both before and during our stay, without being intrusive at all. Lovely welcome treats waiting for us too, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The huge lounge was very comfortable with a nice little raised deck through the French doors, which we used to have breakfast outside or a glass of wine or two in the evenings. Such a beautiful outlook too, with no light pollution, making the night sky so bright. Plenty of crockery and utensils in this cottage for a large family, with the added bonus of a dishwasher to sort them all out ready for the next meal. The girls loved the heated pool and were in there every day at least once, thanks to the generosity of the owners. The bedrooms were cosy and the beds extremely comfortable. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again! Thank you to Georgia and her family for a wonderful stay and thank you Bear for your company! The girls miss you!

A wonderful holiday in a perfect rural cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage suited us very well, my 89 year old mother managed all the steps and stairs very well! The layout is well planned and the cottage very well equipped.

It was marvellous to have use of the lovely pool, the hours for guest use are generous and it all worked very well even though it was very warm weather and in school holidays when I imagine everyone wants to use it.The grounds are lovely and it will be a long project to tame them, but work is well underway. Lovely walks from the house and plenty of places to visit nearby, masses of tourist info and local maps in the book cases.

Georgia and her team presented the cottage well and left a generous welcome pack.

Owner's Response: We are delighted that our guests enjoyed their stay. As they said, there is work to be done in the garden and grounds but we aim to gradually improve things over time. Thank you and we hope to see you again in the future.

Lovely location but let down by certain things

  • 3 of 5

Pros:

Property situation in lovely grounds, ideal for the dog and small child.

Very private and not over looked

greeted with a warm friendly welcome from the owner

Lovely swimming pool

comfortable sitting room

Kitchen well equipped with utentils

comfortable beds

Good Wi-Fi connection

Lots of leaflets on things to do

great location for exploring Suffolk

Cons:

Only being allowed to use swimming pool during certain times (not great if you are there in the peak of summer)

Having to put our own bin out which involved dragging it down to the road

Downstairs bathroom smelt of sewage every time you flushed the loo or ran water down the plug

Upstairs shower could have been cleaner

upstairs could do with a bit of upgrading - carpet worn

Considering this property is classed as luxury we felt we have stayed in nicer places for a lot less money. Price is not justified.

Owner's Response: All I can say to potential future guests is to please contact me if you have any issues. I was unaware that there was a problem in the bathroom as I don't stay in the cottage and no-one had mentioned anything before. Within 18 hours of reading this review, the plumber had been and the problem was resolved. It is a shame that our guests put up with the problem for the entire week without saying anything. I really am quite friendly and approachable!

Lovely cottage in great surroundings

  • 4 of 5

Despite the inclement weather the 6 of us and our three dogs had a delightful week at the cottage. The house is clean, well appointed and comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing break. It is a perfect holiday home for dogs and we had many excellent walks both locally and at the nearby coast. We loved Southwold and enjoyed the Adnams tour and the dog friendly pubs. The owners were very welcoming and we would recommend this property to those seeking a relaxed break in the country.

Location

From the Owner

We have lived around the Woodbridge area for many years, enjoying the proximity to river, forest, heathland and coast. We fell in love with the gardens and grounds of Hacheston Lodge. The village location is wonderfully convenient for local amenities and close to the A12 and A14 for access to London and the Midlands
