About the property

3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath with granite/oak kitchen/diner & sunroom with woodstove

Sleeps 7+ . Large 3 bedroom cottage with farmhouse kitchen/diner set in forestry land on its own 2/3 acre sunny plot. Three bedrooms, sun room, living room, wood-burning stoves in lounge and sun room. Gorgeous natural setting and total privacy. All kitchen equipment, linen, towels, heating and wood for fires included. Up on the Welsh side of the Wye Valley, Bigsnap Cottage is hidden away, over three quarters of a mile from the nearest road. In winter, you can see down to Bigsweir Bridge and across to the Forest of Dean. All around the house, ancient woodland as well as managed forest provide a variety of wildlife including foxes and rabbits, badgers and deer and the forest is alive with birds when spring arrives. A lovely patio area is just outside the sun room to sit out under the afternoon and evening sky to watch for buzzards, owls and bats, while you barbecue your evening meal, or have a glass of wine...

About Ann Lukens

Simon is from Ammanford in West Wales and Ann from Connecticut and New York, having met working in IT. They have each had many careers in between, with Simon now back in IT and Ann running a training/facilitation and conflict resolution business. Their son Tom is at Uni and soon on to other things....

Ann Lukens purchased this cottage in 1993

Why Ann Lukens chose Forest of Dean district

This has been Simon, Ann and Tom's family home until now, when we have all moved (back) to city life. Bigsnap has been a wonderful, magical place to be a family, and Llandogo a warm friendly village to live in or visit, with some time now for us to once again enjoy city life (Cardiff). Time for YOU to enjoy this lovely spot...

What makes this cottage unique

Quiet, peaceful, private, Bigsnap provides a retreat from the world if you want it, but is within walking and short car trip distances to a wide range of activities, towns, and historic sites . If you are a foodie you can check out the restaurants, but also note that the granite work-topped kitchen is a great place to cook your own gourmet meals... (or even taste one of ours!) .As you drive up the valley and then up the drive, you'll see how quiet and beautiful it is!

Had a lovely cosy time whilst the weather outside was very cold! Our daughter (4) loves the squidgy puddles and mud on the track. Thanks

Joyful

  • 5 of 5

To look out upon red rising mist drawing from the valley below, what a marvel. And to walk out into the woods to meet only trees, the joy.

The house was warm and beautiful. And the local pub very welcoming. I wholly recommend the house for a holiday into the quiet.

Beautiful large family cottage

Our second visit this year to Bigsnap. We love the location, the house is stunning and it's a relaxing getaway. Visited the Sloop Inn this time for food and I can thoroughly recommend it. We will be back very soon.

Amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

This is one cottage that you will not want to leave!

Anne, your cottage is the most welcoming and comfortable place to stay. If you want seclusion but with lot's of things on the door step this is the cottage for you. The photographs do not do it justice. Everything you need is to hand and more. The wildlife, well, a stag, two deer, owls and birds of prey were all seen from the house on the track. We would definitely stay again and totally recommend Bigsnap Cottage to all our friends.

Thank you Anne

Melissa and Steve.

A little piece of paradise in beautiful Monmouth

  • 5 of 5

We were absolutely bowled over by the beautiful Bigsnap House in the wonderful Monmouthshire woodland setting.

The moonlit road to the house was made all the more exciting with the siting of 2 fully grown stags silhouetted in the evening light on our arrival.

The house was just gorgeous with a huge kitchen, conservatory and very comfortable sitting room.

The 3 bedrooms were beautifully coordinated with crisp white bedding and spring flower duvets.

The house is very interesting with lots of lovely paintings, books and ceramics. We loved the 'tree' bannister on the stairs. The house has so much character, it was just lovely.

Ann has done a lot of thinking about making the stay at the house as comfortable as possible, so much thought and detail has gone into every room to make sure your stay is really enjoyable.

We loved and enjoyed our stay at Bigsnap very much, Ann (the owner) made our stay just perfect .Thank you so much Jacqueline Naraynsingh

Bigsnap Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a week in this stunning property. The house is very large and is set in a beautiful location. There are plenty of walks nearby and we drove out each day and visited Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross on Wye. There is plenty to do for all ages and the house itself has plenty of games and films. There are 3 large bedrooms and although the lounge is big, we spent most of our relaxing time in the sunroom at the back of the house. There is a local shop near by and also a pub if you want to eat out. We will definitely be coming back here again and would like to thank Ann for her hospitality.
