Had a lovely cosy time whilst the weather outside was very cold! Our daughter (4) loves the squidgy puddles and mud on the track. Thanks

Amazing!!

This is one cottage that you will not want to leave!

Anne, your cottage is the most welcoming and comfortable place to stay. If you want seclusion but with lot's of things on the door step this is the cottage for you. The photographs do not do it justice. Everything you need is to hand and more. The wildlife, well, a stag, two deer, owls and birds of prey were all seen from the house on the track. We would definitely stay again and totally recommend Bigsnap Cottage to all our friends.

Thank you Anne

Melissa and Steve.

A little piece of paradise in beautiful Monmouth

  • 5 of 5

We were absolutely bowled over by the beautiful Bigsnap House in the wonderful Monmouthshire woodland setting.

The moonlit road to the house was made all the more exciting with the siting of 2 fully grown stags silhouetted in the evening light on our arrival.

The house was just gorgeous with a huge kitchen, conservatory and very comfortable sitting room.

The 3 bedrooms were beautifully coordinated with crisp white bedding and spring flower duvets.

The house is very interesting with lots of lovely paintings, books and ceramics. We loved the 'tree' bannister on the stairs. The house has so much character, it was just lovely.

Ann has done a lot of thinking about making the stay at the house as comfortable as possible, so much thought and detail has gone into every room to make sure your stay is really enjoyable.

We loved and enjoyed our stay at Bigsnap very much, Ann (the owner) made our stay just perfect .Thank you so much Jacqueline Naraynsingh

Bigsnap Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a week in this stunning property. The house is very large and is set in a beautiful location. There are plenty of walks nearby and we drove out each day and visited Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross on Wye. There is plenty to do for all ages and the house itself has plenty of games and films. There are 3 large bedrooms and although the lounge is big, we spent most of our relaxing time in the sunroom at the back of the house. There is a local shop near by and also a pub if you want to eat out. We will definitely be coming back here again and would like to thank Ann for her hospitality.

Perfect woodland retreat

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of four adults and four children, and this property suited our needs completely: very spacious, flexible, wonderfully well-equipped and with a warm family atmosphere most unlike a standard holiday rental. The location in the woods was great for walking and adventures, with some excellent pubs nearby (The Brockweir Inn is our favourite.) The host was very hospitable and considerate, and there were lots of welcome extras (basic groceries, games and books, plenty of towels and bed linen) that made our stay stress-free. It took us a little while to get used to the Rayburn heating system, but once we'd worked it out, it was very efficient indeed. The wood-burning stoves were a bonus. I would certainly recommend this property to anyone looking for a woodland escape at any time of year.

Location

From the Owner

This has been Simon, Ann and Tom's family home until now, when we have all moved (back) to city life. Bigsnap has been a wonderful, magical place to be a family, and Llandogo a warm friendly village to live in or visit, with some time now for us to once again enjoy city life (Cardiff). Time for YOU to enjoy this lovely spot...

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : Sloop at 1.25 Miles Nearest Golf : Monmouth at 5 Kilometres Nearest Train : Chepstow at 5 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : M4 at 6 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Sloop at 1.25 Miles Car: necessary

Just 3 miles from Tintern Abbey, and near to many castles, abbeys and historic sites (Chepstow Castle, Tredegar House, Raglan Castle, Castle Coch amongst others!!), BIgsnap Cottage is a perfect hideaway from which to travel to see the sights of South East Wales and the Forest of Dean.

It is situated in easy reach of the Offa's Dyke Path and the Wye Valley Walk, and is set in a bluebell wood if you are lucky enough to be there in April/May!

Also nearby are many attractions for the children - Tintern Railway, Clearwell Caves, Forest of Dean Railway, Perrygrove Railway, the Maze at Symond's Yat, Puzzlewood, and many lovely playgrounds and forest sites along the River Wye. Also at Symond's Yat (and Monmouth!) you'll find canoeing facilities, and at Symond's Yat are some lovely walks and a viewing site for some of the valley's birds of prey.

For the foodies, the Michelin starred Whitebrook Restaurant (formerly the 'Crown') is only a few miles away and the Hardwick is in Abergavenny - well worth a trip - both of these need advance booking!!!. Misbah in Monmouth is a multi-award winning Bangladeshi restaurant, and the Boat Inn at Redbrook will reward you with a nice pub meal after a walk up the disused railway path from Llandogo...

Tintern has a wide range of hotel restaurants, pubs and tea rooms when you've finished at the Abbey as well as gift shops and a great rare book shop.

On a day you need to shop, Cardiff is not far by car or train (from Chepstow), and Bristol, Bath, and Hereford are also in reach....

From the Owner

Quiet, peaceful, private, Bigsnap provides a retreat from the world if you want it, but is within walking and short car trip distances to a wide range of activities, towns, and historic sites . If you are a foodie you can check out the restaurants, but also note that the granite work-topped kitchen is a great place to cook your own gourmet meals...
