About Julie and David Singleton

I'm Yorkshire born and bred, Julie in Cambridge. I work as an IT manager in Sheffield, Julie as a Doctor. We love Grosmont, and would like to live here and watch the world go by, but have to work like the rest of us, well, for a few more years, then who knows.

Julie and David Singleton purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Julie and David Singleton chose Yorkshire Moors and Coast

We were looking for somewhere in the North York Moors park, and think this cottage has the best of both worlds; close enough to the best of the coast and countryside, yet tucked out of the way of the busy spots. You can get pretty much anywhere in the park in 30 minutes by car, train or bus. It's also got plenty of historic features as you would expect of an 1820's Ironstone miner's cottage, yet has all the mod-cons.

What makes this cottage unique

Wonderful views- you can watch the sun go down from bed if you want to.

Close to Grosmont village with shops, amenities and North Yorkshire Moors Railway station for trains to Whitby, Pickering and Middlesborough if you're brave.

Nice cottage gardens set in orchards and woods.

Comfortable cottage; superb views

  • 5 of 5

It is worth staying at this cottage for the views alone; a wonderful vista right across the Esk valley to Egton, with steam trains in the valley below. The cottage is lovely; spacious and comfortable with a cosy lounge and a huge kitchen/dining room, each with their own Freeview HD TV. The description and photos on here give a good idea of the place and everything was very clean and well maintained. It is a ten minute walk downhill to the main part of the village but be warned; it is about 20 minutes coming back as it is quite steep, but that is the price of those views! The North York Moors Railway starts in the village so this cottage is ideally situated for people wanting to visit. We had a couple of large lunches in our favourite Whitby fish restaurant, the Magpie Café, during the week we were there so it is probably just as well there are some good walks in the area; we walked to Goathland and back from the cottage which is a round trip of about 7 miles - a map is useful if you take the route through the woods on the way there but the 'Rail Trail' walk back is easy to follow. We will definitely book this cottage again if we are back in the area.

We've recently re-furnished the property to a high standard, with solid oak furniture; leather sofa's; and decorated the cottage with it's Victorians heritage in mind using William Morris arts and crafts curtains, and examples of both historic and contemoprary art from the local area.
