About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage located in village within New Forest National Park

Thimble Cottage sleeps up to 6 guests plus 2 babies.

It is a delightful holiday cottage that provides the best of old world charm combined with modern convenience, offering spacious accomodation with character and style.

This pretty 17th century thatched cottage is furnished to a high standard with 2 living rooms and plenty of comfortable seating.

It is our family holiday home and as we regularly use the cottage with our 3 young children we have lots of things young children require including toys which reduces what you need to bring. We also have a well equipped kitchen so cooking at the cottage is easy and we also have need a bean to cup coffee machine. There is a dinning table which seats six and two high chairs.

The garden is large and fully enclosed with two seating areas and a gas BBQ.

Located just north of Lyndhurst we are just 5 mins drive from Paultons Park, the home of Peppa Pig world and a 25 min drive (at the right time of day) from the beach at Mudeford. Obviously there are also all the activites of The Forest itself including walks, cycle paths and pubs.

Please note due to insurance restrictions the wood burner is not available for guests to use.

About Debbie

We see the cottage as our second home which we share with the guests who book to stay. We orignally bought it pre children so we could escape London at the weekends and enjoy the outdoors. We now have a 4 year old and 2 year old twins who also love the cottage and The Forest. This means the cottage is very suitable for families with children but also for grown ups.

Debbie purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Debbie chose Southampton

We love the fact that the cottage has the character of an old thatched cottage with a light modern extension at the back. This means we have a cosy front room which we use in winter and the evenings, but a light living room next to the kitchen and the garden for summer and the day time.

We also love the garden and have changed it a lot since buying the cottage, adding fruit trees, roses and a raised decking area at the back to make the most of the views across the fields.

Fantastic stay in Little Thatch.

  • 5 of 5

We loved it. And the garden was just lovely. We explored all around the area, even going to Isle of Wight. The New Forest area was amazing. The guys managed to fix the kitchen drawer handle that continually fell off. The washing machine leaked a little, but Bob had a look at it and saw that the rubber seal perhaps needed replacing. But as I said, we loved it. Would recommend Little Thatch to anyone wanting a stay in that area. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. Mary & fellow travellers.

Cosy, quiet, well lived in rural retreat

  • 4 of 5

Firstly, let me say this cottage is a great space and worked well throughout our stay. After initial teething problems with the heating which we quickly resolved we settled smoothly. The house has a very lived in feel which makes it ideal for families as you don’t need to tiptoe around. The internet was patchy but manageable so should not be relied upon. Lots of fancy gadgets like the coffee machine and double dishwasher. Overall a very pleasant stay. Quick tip, check the dresser for the folder of things to do and bits about the house, took us a while to find but made it fun working things out for ourselves!

FYI for those who like to host: We did Xmas day and Boxing Day full dinners with lots of guests, masses of room to cook, piles of pots and pans, then ample space to serve and relax after!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry you had problems with the internet, it is worth noting there are two routers to connect to depending which room you are sitting in due to the thick walls, both my husband and I have worked from the cottage with no issues and my husband often streams Sky TV to his ipad with no issue.

Just what we hoped it would be.

Great location for both Southampton and Bournemouth the area itself was great for going walks. The house had so much character and it was so well equiped, the bottle of wine was well appreciated after a long drive from Scotland.Beds were all very comfortable and the underfloor heating in the morning is lovely, great rental would highly recommend.

Attractive cottage and lovely garden

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this spacious and well equipped cottage which is conveniently located for exploring the eastern side of the New Forest. The garden is well tended and very attractive with numerous seating areas. The cottage has several low settees which our party, all aged around 60, found uncomfortable, but no doubt other people may like these. Many good pubs close by.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and your stay in the New Forest. We and our children love our low sofas, but we have put a high back one in the back living room with a view of the garden which our parents appreciate.
