Front Sea View Duplex, swim accross the street and walk to Cales Fonts

Overview

Property

Updated: 07-Dec-2016
2 Bedroom 2 Bathroom duplex with sea view and access to swim area.

The property is located in Sol del Este an urbanization in the town of Es Castell, at the very entrance on the Harbor in Menorca. It is called Sun of the East because it is the very first location where the sun rises in Spain. Hard to find rustic two bedroom, two bathroom duplex with sea view and access to swim, walking distance to the picturesque Cales Fonts, full of restaurants, shopping and bars, all with amazing water views; Es Castell is just about 2.5 km from Mahon, the capital of the island. If you prefer not to rent a car, by bus you can access Mahon and the southern beaches as well as Ciudadella. If you hire a car, there is plenty a parking right at the entrance of the Duplex. Property located on the second floor on the building, no elevator, after accessing a private outdoor patio. On the 1st floor is a dining room, full bathroom, kitchen, laundry room a bedroom living room and balcony, these last three with sea view . On the second floor is a suite, and a terrace.

Beautiful view & great location

  • 4 of 5

My fiancé and I have just spent a relaxing week at this apartment. The balcony has a beautiful view overlooking the harbour which we enjoyed our breakfast & coffee on every morning; it appeared safe enough to us! It's in a great location with just a short walk to lots of restaraunts and shops, and a 5 minute taxi ride to the centre of Mahon.

I would recommend the Barcelo hotel roof top terrace if you want to watch the sunset whilst drinking cocktails. It's a shame that the small restaraunt over the road isn't open as that would have been ideal! If you visit the cente of Mahon on Tuesday evenings you can enjoy live music at most of the restaraunts and bars. I would also recommend hiring a bike from bikeMenorca to cycle around the island and see some beautiful sites. It was only 15 euros to hire for a full day!

The apartment has a very Spanish feel with lots of cute & quirky touches. It can get hot in the night but we opened all of the Windows & sprayed mosquito spray in the bedroom which really helped.

We sunbathed around the harbour which was so peaceful and just 10 steps to the apartment if we needed our drinks topping up!

Magdalena was very friendly and welcoming and I will definately be returning.

Delightful and full of character

  • 4 of 5

My husband, daughter and I have just returned from a week stay here. We found the property charming, beautiful view, very clean and comfortable apartment with lovely character. We didn't use the washing machine, so can't comment, but the fridge was fine, no leaking, and no trouble with the boiler either. It is true that the bathroom upstairs has no door, but the wardrobe door beside opens enough to screen the bathroom and provide privacy. The apartment complex was lovely with attractive gardens and very peaceful neighbours. We arrived during fiesta week, so it was very lively at night for the first few nights, with a great deal of music coming from the bar near the boardwalk beach, however this stopped when the fiesta ended, and we had no other noise at night. We did enjoy some fantastic firework displays from the balcony. The rail did not appear to us to be rotten - I leaned out over it on several occaisons and it felt very robust. Windows on opposite sides of the apartment open to allow lovely through breeze. My husband and I had no trouble from mosquitoes, but my daughter was savaged on the first night. We used the repellent spray that was provided in the apartment and she had no furhter bites after that.

Cales Fonts is a bustling little sea front with a range of bars and restaurants, and easy walking distance. I would recommend Bar Lemon - run by a Spanish couple who were very friendly and gave excellent recommendations about good places to eat. We wished we had spoken to them sooner! Avoid Dinkums - caters very much for a 'British market' and proprietor and staff were very rude. We left before ordering! Apparently Nikki's and La Pulperia are very good. We ate in Sa Cala on a couple of nights - good range of tapas, and friendly staff. La Miramar was pleasant, but expensive for what we had.

The apartment has excellent access to a wide range of activities. Great sailing and paddle boarding at Fornells, and prehistoric sites really worth a visit, as are beaches in the north and villages around Binibeca.

We were very pleased with our stay, returned rested and happy. Magdalena could not have been more helpful, and was very welcoming.

Well past it's best

  • 1 of 5

First of all the balcony wooden rail was rotted out, I wouldn't place any weight on it unless you want to join the neighbor below. Secondly the kitchen boiler leaks fumes back into the building, I had to push the flue into the gap in the wall, just as well we had windows open or there could be fatalities! Who know when it was last checked. Thirdly the top floor bathroom has no door as seen in the photographs, that's helpful if you don't need privacy and like to converse with the the flats opposite. Talking of the derelict flats, the ones at the rear of the property have a stagnant partially filled pool that needs to be disinfected before the mosquitos spread more havoc! With no air conditioning it's nice to be able to open a window without being on the menu! Oh don't forget the washing machine with 2kg wash load, that leaks water everywhere, better to have a shower with your clothes on, quicker and more effective! It's a shame it could turn out to be a good place if some time and money was spent up grading it from student flat to something that you want to remember as a nice holiday place, get rid of the charity shop miss matched mugs etc and take it seriously, if you can when living in America!! The property was passably clean but not the cooker hood. Would I recommend it "no". The best part is the view, if don't fall over the balcony!!

Owner's Response: Paul and Marion, thanks so much for both of your reviews. Marion's in the 3 Star review below, Paul must have felt compelled to leave a second one which I am happy to address. The balcony wooden rail issue most defently has been fix, since the community is in charged of that, it took longer than expected. The kitchen boiler gets revised on a yearly basis, myself has been living in the apartment this summer and haven't had any issues. The safety of my tenants is my priority. The opposite building is hotel, which has been closed since 2004 and the pool gets empty every summer. In regards to the washing machine, there is instructions in English which are given to all the tenants, Marion unfortunately did not read them, and actually broke the washing machine, which cost €110 to repair. Most defenetly new beautiful cups have been place in the kitchen. If bathroom privacy is required for couples using the Master Bedroom/Bathroom, there is a second bathroom downstairs which will provide that. Thanks again for your reviews and the opportunity to address them with the improvements we have made.

good location

  • 3 of 5

This was a nice property with a fantastic view and our family enjoyed our stay. The lacks proper maintenance which is a shame as it would be excellent if the property was better maintained. Simple things like having a working washing machine and a fridge freezer that did not leak all over the floor.

Location

From the Owner

I purchased this property because it met all my requirements, I could take the children swimming across the street in Cala Padera, the apartment complex shadows the Fisherman Village structure from the famous complex in Binibeca, a beach area in the south of the island, which I love, but it is very close to Mahon the capital. We can walk in the evening to have dinner to Cales Fonts an amazing fisherman harbor full of restaurants bars and shops.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Mahon, Menorca Airport at 8 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Cales Fonts at 500 Metres Nearest Ferry : Mahon Harbor at 3 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Son Parc, Mercadal at 25 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Cales Fonts at 500 Metres Nearest Beach : across the street Car: necessary

In Sol del Este you will find the tranquility of staying in a rural home but able to swim right across the street and walking distance from Cales Fonts, a cozy fisherman harbor full of shopping, bars and restaurants; a short driving distance, 3.5 Km, to Mahon the capital of the island, with the second largest natural harbor of the world. You may also go to Mahon by bus, from the apartment to the bus station is a 10 min. walk, the bus will drop you to the heart of the city, parking in the city in summer is quite challenging.

Facilities

From the Owner

I love the feeling the area provides of being in a rural area right in front of the sea, at the very entrance of the Harbor, seeing all the boats coming and going, it never gets boring! The duplex has an amazing rustic décor. I felt in love when I first saw it and I can't never give it up. My children are a bit grown up so we are spending our summers closer to their friends.
